Hi, my name is Hazel .  I am originally from Richmond but I now live in a nice suburb in Northern Virginia.  I have a great foster mom who takes care of me, you see, when my mom first picked me up from animal control I was in bad shape.  I was living on the streets for a while so I was dirty, had an upper respiratory infection and an ear infection.  I was skinny and very hungry.
I have a goofy Rottie brother that I live with.  I don't mind a home with other dogs but I take a little time to get comfortable with them. I don't like small dogs or cats.  I hike with my rottie brother and a couple of his doggie friends, which are my friends now, and I love being around them!

I have many human children as friends, some as young as 3 years old.  I am very gentle when I greet them and I will stand still so they can love on me.  I have learned to share my toys and will bring them to you so we can play.  Fetch is my favorite game!

My mom says that I am a very sweet and smart girl.  I know sit, come, wait, go back and down.  I am house trained, crate trained and don't touch things that don't belong to me.  There are many things that I enjoy in this new life I have.  I love baths and will get into the tub with no issues - who wouldn't want to be pampered with a soapy massage!?  I also don't mind if you clean out my ears, trim my nails or brush me.
I love going for car rides because that means I am going on an adventure!!  Hiking, walking on trails and wading through streams are some of the things I get to do.  I do love my downtime and cuddling with you.
My mom always tells me that I am a very special girl and that I will need a very special human.  Back when I was a stray, life was rough.  I have an old injury, a torn ACL, and I take daily pain and anti-inflammatory medication for this.  I have mild hip dysplasia and I shuffle a little when I walk.  Don't think of me any differently though - I still chase squirrels and rabbits with my rottie brother and can outrun him!!  I also had a mammary tumor which was removed and biopsied.  It came back as a low grade cancer and my vet is cautiously optimistic of a good prognosis.  I am spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and had a dental cleaning.
If you want to be my hiking companion, snuggle buddy and best friend please fill out an Adoption Application!
