Hey there! My name is Sasha, and I’m a lovable bully girl who lost my family when I was very young and sadly became a casualty of the system. I once lived in a loving home with a 15 year old boy who was my best friend, 2 other dogs, and a kitty too, and I miss my family dearly. My home burned down and my owners were killed, so a rescue shelter took me in, and I sadly lived in an outdoor kennel for 3 long years....way too long for a social, charming pup like me.

The rest of my animal pals all found their way to new homes, but as an older, black lab/pit bull mix who could stand to lose a few pounds, I was overlooked time and time again. I came from an area where there is a dog overpopulation problem, especially when it comes to pit bulls, so I’ve watch so many other dogs find a home, and just hope my turn is coming soon.

Thankfully, WDR sprung me from that kennel life and I’m now living in a wonderful foster home with 2 parents who love me as part of their family. Being in a home feels so good. My foster mom adores me and quickly realized I was a snuggly pup. I miss having a family to love and am excited to start my new life. I know there’s someone special out there waiting for a loving pup like me.

I’m house trained, crate trained, and great with kids...I really love kids and am very gentle and respectful with them. I'm good with some dogs when given a proper introduction and cats too. I’m so excited to be free and to have the opportunity explore the world around me. The world is my oyster.

3/25/17 - Foster Update - Sasha has settled into her foster home, and is enjoying multiple walks a day and a healthy diet. She has lost a few pounds, and looks great! She is a fun, active girl who loves meeting new people and is very warm and affectionate. Her foster parents have done a great job of giving her structure, balance, and lots of love so she now knows how good home life can be. She's learned how to be relaxed inside the house, and has mastered basic commands like sit, down, wait. She's still working on her leash walking skills, but will still pull when she gets excited. That's a work in progress...

Sasha really enjoys walks and playtime, but what she wants most in life is the love of family and to be with her people.  This sweet pup will make a great family dog and playmate for the kids. Great with toddlers too!

8/15/17 - Sasha's foster family went abroad for 2 weeks and Sasha stayed with anotehr foster.

"It was totally my pleasure. She is awesome. She fit right in from the first evening.

Walking on the leash in general was not a problem at all (other than her initial reactivity - which we were starting to get a handle on). Our last few walks, she hardly paid attention to other dogs from a short distance. I offered small training treats to keep her attention on me, and it really worked well. Bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks usually caused some reaction, but she even settled down with those, more or less.

She LOVED the back yard. She was so funny. I would give her a bully stick in the morning, and she would take it outside and hide it and come back in and rest. After our evening walk, during Jeopardy, she would go outside and eat the stick - always outside; that was like her evening nightcap. She also liked to lounge on the deck in the sun with my mom and me. Sometimes she would go out by herself and lay on the deck (my mom or I were in the dining room and could see her). She rearranged sticks/bricks to hide her bully sticks but was never destructive.

Her house manners are perfect. She never chewed or got into anything (not even bathroom trash cans or a small stuffed animal on my bed), and once I told her No and to stay out of my mom's room, she would hang out in the doorway but never go in without an invitation. She's better behaved than some kids! "

Sasha is long overdue for a loving family to step up for her, and she's going to make some lucky owner so happy. She's a sweetheart.

You can also help save dogs like this by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes.
