Baby is good with kids, dogs, and cats.  She acts younger than an 8 year old dog but is past the puppy trouble causing :)  She showed interest in cats, but didn\'t chase or act aggressive towards them.

Foster Home Feedback

June 3, 2010: We have had Baby in our home for only 24 hours but we have all fallen in love with her!  She is so nice, gentle, and gets along very well with our three dogs and our three teenagers.  We have fostered 30+ dogs over the past two years and she is probably the nicest one we have ever had.  Baby is definitely more active than a typical 8 year old.  When it is time to go outside, she flies off the deck and runs and runs; when it is time to go in, she flies up the deck steps and straight to the door to go in for a nap.   The only trouble I have had with her is in my home office.  She likes to cuddle up by my chair and it is hard to open the desk drawers without disturbing her!  She will make a great family dog!

Bambi was rescued from a local pound since her owner never came for her.  She does good with other dogs, cats and kids.  She is housetrained and does not chew on things that are not hers. Bambi is more than deserving to find a home she can call her own and get all the love and attention she deserves.

Foster Home Feedback

July 7th - In the past week that we have had Bambi she has been such a sweetheart!  She gets along great with our dog and also with our 2 cats.  We had our younger nieces over the other day and she was very well behaved with the kids.  She has great manners in the house, she proven to be house trained, does not chew on things that are not hers, respects the cats and the other dog in the house.  We are working with basic commands like sit and lay down.  She knows the word outside very well.

When I first picked up Bambi she curled up in my front seat and picked up my hand with her nose to get pet .  She just wants love and attention and she gives it right back.  She is content with finding a spot on the couch and taking a nap. Bambi isn\'t a high energy dog so toys to her are not her favorite thing, just a good petting.   Bambi is very loving and a happy dog.  Took about 5 minutes for her to warm up to me but only because she was nervous.  After she got over being scared she was really excited to get into our house and made herself comfortable.  Bambi is more than deserving to find a home she can call her own and get all the love and attention she deserves.

Barney is in need of a new foster home.

June 2nd - Barney just came to us on Sunday and he has been fantastic even in strange surroundings.  He is a wonderful Lab mix and when he\'s in the sun you can see this beautiful brown tint to him with white spots on his chest and paws.  He has been getting used to things and calming down more and more every day.  I now have a soft and furry thing pretty much attached to my hip as he doesn\'t like being alone very much.  If you love the companionship of a dog, Barney is the one for you.  All he wants is to make sure you are around and never leaves your side.

I am still having issues getting him to willingly go in to his kennel but all it takes is a little food pushed in to the back of his kennel and he will go in.  At this point he doesn\'t seem to be interested in toys, just people.  He is a huge people fan and is very friendly to everyone.  I don\'t have children so I don\'t know how he is with kids.  Barney approaches everyone and snuggles up to them.  He just loves attention!    He also seems to be very friendly to other dogs even if they are barking at him.  I think Barney would do very well in a house with another dog as he does have separation issues and would probably calm down if he had a friend with him.  Barney is also completely potty trained and when he needs to go he will come up to you and whimper a little bit.

Bear is a very mellow, friendly and beautiful dog. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, has done well with kids, and is fully housetrained.

Bear is a little older and his hips bother him a bit but he still loves to go on walks.

Foster Home Feedback

July 6th - Bear has been getting regular exercise and has recently lost 3 pounds. He isn\'t too happy about sitting by the treat cupboard and being ignored! If we walk past him when he\'s sitting there, he will give a bark just in case we missed his 80 pounds sitting there!

\"\" He has been going to the lake with me and within 1/2 hour of getting there, he had made his way into the water and was very happily swimming around the lake. It\'s sometimes tough to keep him out since his retriever instincts are pulling at him. I think he may have been a hunting dog at one time since he very eagerly went after a stick I threw for him and have since bought him a training \"toy\" for him to retrieve from the water. He knows this is his since he carries it around but doesn\'t chew on it. He will not play fetch with a ball but loves to retrieve in the water. Bear does get tired and we need to make him rest otherwise he would swim to exhaustion.

The fireworks on the 4th of July left him unfazed. He slept by my chair outside - actually snored - while we let off the fireworks. This is also true for a thunderstorm. I have not found anything that scares or upsets him. He was also around a lot of activity with people of all ages and did just fine. Bear is such a happy-go-lucky dog!

May 10th - Bear is a wonderful dog. The time spent with him has really allowed his personality to shine through and he melts hearts of anyone who meets him. He loves attention but will also go and lie down when he is told. He gets along very well with any dog he meets and I have yet to see any aggression with him towards other animals, adults, or children. He currently shares a home with two other dogs.

When he sees his leash, he gets so excited because he knows this means a walk or a trip to the dog park. He is trying to shed a few pounds - like it or not!

Bear is currently being treated for Cushing\'s Disease and is responding very well to treatment. He also takes a daily pill for stiff joints and this has made a world of difference. He is full of energy but is also happy to lie on his orthopedic bed with the sun streaming through the windows on him.

He is such a wonderful and loveable dog! Bear desires to be in a forever home that would allow him exercise and activity but also allow him to be lazy and just get love and attention.

December 4th - Bear is a very loving, snuggly dog. He loves attention yet when you tell him it\'s enough, he will lie down and not be a bother. He is low energy but loves to play tug of war. So far, I have not seen an aggressive side to him with people or other dogs. When he has been at the dog park, he plays with other dogs but mostly just walks around and explores the area.

He does have one drawback - Bear is prone to ear infections. However, with frequent ear cleanings (which he loves) that is easily maintained and is a small inconvenience for all the love and joy that he provides!

October 19th - Bear is doing great. He is content to lie on the floor yet when another dog is around, he tries to play. We had an English Bulldog here for a couple of hours and they played outside for about 1/2 hour and he didn\'t show any aggression at all. He has also been around kids and is very gentle.

I do not kennel him at night and we have had no issues. He sleeps on his doggie bed on the floor beside my bed. Sometimes I hear him get up and get a drink of water but there have been no accidents and he does not chew on anything. When I leave the house, I will kennel him and he goes in without any problems.

He likes to chew on rawhide but has not chewed on anything that he shouldn\'t. He also loves dog treats!

Taking Bear for a walk is very easy since he does really well on a leash.

Basically, he just loves to be around people and will follow me from room to room. He does bark but only if it\'s to go in or outside or if he\'s very excited about something. He is very lovable and if you sit on the floor with him, he will nuzzle up against you or put his head in your lap. He\'s a wonderful, sweet dog.

September 19th - Bear is an old but gentle dog. He get\'s along wonderfully with other dogs. He loved the dog park, and all of the other dog\'s and dog owners there loved him. Since he\'s a bit older his hips bother him a little when he get\'s up and down but he loves going on walks and any attention at all. He\'s potty trained and hasn\'t had any accidents in the house. He doesn\'t bark when others come to the door. He had an ear infection when we got him so we put drops in his ears everyday and he sits nicely for them even though it\'s not his favorite thing. He\'s been good with my young niece and nephews. He does love food so there\'s no leaving anything out where he may get to it. He hasn\'t got into anything he shouldn\'t but I don\'t want to tempt him. The only time he has made any noise is when we kennel him up at night he will cry a little for about 3-5 minutes but then nothing the rest of the night and I usually have to wake him up in the morning. He\'s only been with us a couple of days so I\'d say he\'s been a star performer up to this point. If your looking for a mellow, friendly, beautiful dog, Bear is the one for you!

Belle is a very pretty young lady who came to Lucky Dog as a stray and was never claimed. She is a beautiful black lab/boxer mix who is as sweet as she could be! She is a healthy happy girl who is looking for a loving home. We feel that she is approximately 2 years old and she is good with kids and other dogs, but she is a little bit too interested in cats... We feel that with a little training she will learn that kitties are our friends!

If you are interested in adopting Belle, please contact Marshmallow Foundation/Lucky Dog Animal Shelter in Detroit Lakes, MN. Their phone number is 218-847-4100.

July 24th - Boone is a good boy.  He is housebroken so far but not kennel trained. He ended up sleeping on a blanket on our bedroom floor. He is already buddies with our 6 month old beagle. He is pretty mellow but does bark when people walk by.

He loves attention and getting ear and butt rubs. We are going to try to work on some manners as he doesn\'t know how to sit, jumps up to the counters, and will just about knock me over when it is time to eat.  I\'ll write more feedback in a couple of days as we learn more about him.

July 26 - Buddy is an awesome dog! Everybody who has met him comments on 1) how handsome he is, and 2) how well-behaved he is. If you ever met him at a Petco Meet-n-Greet, that’s not representative of his personality. He seemed reserved and almost sad at first. Once he got home and got settled, he definitely came out of his shell. He’s really a happy, friendly – and occasionally goofy – puppy who just wants to hang out wherever you are. He’s got quite a bit of Lab to him. He’s also very smart: He learned quickly to sit to be let outside and to sit for his food. He’ll respond well to training.

There are two cats here and he does very well with them. The older one wants nothing to do with him, so he leaves her alone; the younger one doesn’t mind him and they get along fine. He does well with other dogs, too – as long as they’re his size or smaller. Doesn’t bark much. He’s good with kids, too. His favorite pastimes are sleeping and destroying loofa dogs. He also LOVES to run, though he’s more of a sprinter than a distance runner: a few good laps around the yard and then it’s time for a break. Buddy is just an all-around cool, easy-going dog who will be a great addition to any family.

March 6th - Hi everyone!  My name is Buddy. Mom tells me that there are pictures of me on this website but they don’t do me justice. She says I am such a handsome boy and I have really good manners. I am not sure what that means but she always tells me that and gives me a treat afterwards. I like to sleep on the floor next to my foster mom & dad’s bed at night and sometimes they will put me in a kennel during the day for a little while. I don’t think she realizes that I know how to shove my paw through the door and unlatch it, because I always get out and lay on the floor next to it. It kind of scares me to be in there if no one is home but I am ok with it if someone is in the room with me. Mom says I will get better at staying in my kennel as time goes on. I don’t mess on the floor or anything so I think she lets me roam the house freely because of that.

I share my house with 3 other larger dogs and I like to be first in line when it comes to eating. If the other dogs try to eat, I let out a little growl and they wait until I am done. Mom says that she is going to start feeding me separately from now on because I have bad manners at supper time. I love my bones and my treats but I don’t really care for any of the toys around the house. I also share the house with a couple kids they are 5 and 16 and they are so fun to play with. We also have these two small cats that live with us. They are funny, they jump on my head when I am sleeping and bat my ears with their paws. Sometimes I get angry and let out a very angry bark and they leave me alone. I don’t chase them because they always run under the couch and I can’t catch them.

My mom says I am kind of a lazy dog for a puppy. I like to play a lot outside, but I am usually the first to poop out and the first to want to be let back in the house. I seem to get cold quicker than the other dogs, it is probably because I don’t have as thick of a coat as they do. If you want to meet me, let 4luvofdog know and my foster mom said we can go for a car ride. Hope to meet you soon!

 --Love Buddy

February 11th - I just wanted to let you know that \"Buddy\" is doing great so far. He is a very well behaved boy. He kenneled last night just fine, barks at the door when he wants to go out, doesn\'t jump up, didn\'t show any aggression with ANY of the three dogs, didn\'t even bother with the two cats, took a bath fine (just stood there) and let me completely bath him and didn\'t try to jump out until I asked him too. He was however ferociously hungry, he gobbled down about two full cups of food and then threw it up, we gave him another cup about an hour later and he gobbled that down too but kept it down for awhile but then threw up again about an hour later. He has been drinking water but as of right now, he won\'t eat just drinks a little water. Oh and he is not showing any food aggression toward the other animals nor us, he wags his tail when he inhales it. Hopefully it\'s just nerves. He\'s poopin tho lol. ;). I hope to get his weight up soon, he is so so skinny the poor little guy.

Bumper was rescued from a local pound. When we picked him up he was in terrible shape! Covered in waste, and his eyes were pretty much crusted shut. Bumper was very shy, didn\'t want to be handled at all... It was clear that he had been abused, since he reacted with fear. Poor little guy!

His foster home is providing loving care to help him learn to trust again.

July 25th - Bumper has gotten his haircut and looks SO handsome! He is the dude! Bumper has been more relaxed in his new foster home and likes to join in welcoming me home. He follows the other dogs to help him know where to go but once in awhile he spooks because he did not realize we were there. He likes to lay under a coffee table or other furniture. His last check up was good and he is doing well. We just make sure to limit treats and have plenty of activity.

April 16th - Bumper has been a good little guy for us and he is a handsome little guy! He just had his spring hair cut and is all set to impress the ladies.

October 16th - Bumper had a photoshoot yesterday, he is so handsome! He is truely an amazing little guy. Bumper\'s transformation from when we first picked him up in September has been incredible. My goal at that time was not only to get he healthy, but to make his tail wag. His tail wags like crazy now! Bumper is such a strong little fighter, and he is so appreciative for his second chance at life. He would like to thank 4 Luv of Dog and the West Fargo Animal Hospital for everything that has been provided to him. Bumper is truely a new dog!

October 9th -Quick update on Bumper. He is doing so much better. He doesn\'t look as sick as he did when we first got him. Bumper\'s coat is coming in so well, he had a few balled spots and some irritation before from malnutrition. He is getting shiner all the time! Bumper is going to be a Lobster for halloween, he makes a great Lobster.
He is doing so well. Bumper is going up and down our stairs now just fine. He gets up and down off our furniture too! Last night he chased a fly around the house and finally got him, he was so proud. I think his eyes might be getting a little better... he is able to see shadows a lot better and he has learned to make use of his senses to get around. He is such a good boy and his confidence has skyrocketed!

September 13th - When I picked Bumper up from the pound, he was in terrible shape! Covered in waste, and his eyes were pretty much crusted shut. Bumper was very shy, didn\'t want to be handled at all... It was clear that he had been abused, since he reacted with fear. Poor little guy!

I brought Bumper home and bathed him... given his lack of trust I wasn\'t sure how he would react to a bath, but he actually really enjoyed it!!! I washed out Bumper\'s eyes and put antibiotic ointment on them and he ran around like a puppy to dry off. I think he was really happy to have some sight back!

Bumper is pretty slow, for the most part, and still shy. He is vision is impaired due to cataracts and he does bump into things. Stairs are an issue for him. Bumper has some kind of mass on his rump/tail. He will be going to a vet ASAP to check his eyes and the mass.

Bumper does nip a little when you try to pick him up, but he has decreased that almost completely since we first got him, probably because he is starting to trust us. He has had some accidents in the house, but we are working on that. As soon as he gets to the grass he goes potty, and then we praise him and he gets treats!

Other than that, he LOVES to walk around our yard and go for short walks. He loves belly rubs and to be cuddled and petted. Bumper\'s confidence has gone up already since yesterday morning and he is starting to trust my husband and I. He gets along just fine with our female shih tzu too. They cuddled on a car ride last night actually. He eats just fine when you show him where his food is.

I will send you an update of how Bumper is doing in a few days. He seems to be opening up little at a time. Bumper would be a good dog for someone with a lot of patients... Alls he wants is someone to love and care for him :)

Name: Butch
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Age: 2 years old
Size: Large

Other:  Neutered male, vaccinations current

Butch is a typical happy and friendly Lab. He does great with other pups, cats and kids. He is a well-adjusted dog!  Butch would make a great addition to any family.

Foster Home Feedback

June 15th -  Butchie continues to do well. He\'s become a great napper, taking the whole bed for himself.  He\'s learning not to drink all the water in the bowl every time it\'s filled, and he can hold it a lot longer than he used to.  Butch even spent the night with a friend and he was able to settle in easily, a complete turn around from how he was when he first came to his foster home.

Butch goes to daycare once a week, playing with his friends.  He has some issues with some dogs, but with time and practice he can settle in.  Butch is such a goofy guy, he will bring SO much laughter to whoever adopts him. He\'s the \"labbiest\" lab I\'ve ever met.

March 30th - Butchie has been doing well in his foster home and is patiently waitingfor his forever home. He has become a well-adjusted dog. Butch is a sucker for back/butt scratches, he pretty much drops whatever he\'s doing once he feels that scratch. He\'s a good cuddler; he rarely sleeps through the night without spending some time on my bed, and he has a favorite spot on the couch that he will sit in regardless if you are in the way or not. He doesn\'t mind sharing!

Butch has been doing a lot of rollerblading lately and he is verymanageable as we go along. He\'s willing to pull you and do all the work or just run next to you. He has so far had little interest in the ducks, etc. that we pass (although his foster sister is definitely ready for a feathered meal). What he does get excited about, is people! It\'s heartbreaking to see how excited he gets when we go past a group of kids playing catch. He wants to be a part of that so much! Butch will be a dog that takes his time to adjust to new things. When he\'s in his comfort zone he\'s a mellow, medium-energy dog that is content to chew on his toys and snore on the couch. He does get anxious with new things, but with a little time and patience he settles down back into his usual self.

As a big black dog, Butch will be overlooked by a lot of people. But, being a big black dog owner and successful foster of 5 big black dogs, I can tell anyone out there that black is beautiful, and this big black dog deserves to be adopted!

January 27th - Mr. Cassidy is doing well. I\'ve had him for about three weeks now. He gets along great with the other dogs. He\'s very interested in the cat, but no matter how hard he tries the kitty just won\'t play with him. Butch loves to fetch, which is great because it\'s easy to tire him out. He does enjoy chewing on the ball before giving it to you to throw again. His fetching is pretty laid-back. He only had a few accidents the first two days;nothing since then. He jumps on the door when he needs to go. He has not had a single accident in his kennel, and he can hold it for probably up to six hours. He needs to go out more often if he\'s playing with his friends... Playtime requires a lot of water.

Butch is hands-down the BEST walker I have ever had as a foster-dog. He\'s even better than my own dog. I use a head-collar, and he does not pull at all. His only flaw is that he can go off into space and kind of forgets that he\'s on a walk and needs to keep moving. Finding a spot to go to the bathroom on a walk is very easy; no searching for this dog. He just stops and goes. Butch\'s slight kleptomania gets better every day. From stealing everything he could the first few days, he\'s now down to one or two items a day. What can you do, though, it\'s a hard addiction to break. He is committed to attending his therapy sessions - What a brave young man! Butchie would like everyone to think the small bald spot on his head
involved a burning building, saving a baby, and receiving a key to the city, but really he just had a small infection. His hair is growing back slowly.

Butch is the textbook definition of a lab: he\'s goofy, loves to fetch, occasionally chews on things he\'s not supposed to, can be either ridiculously lazy or ready to go, and loves everyone and everything. Butch needs a family that has a good sense of humor because he is a complete meat-head. The first week or so of transition time will be hard, but Butch is well worth it once he gets over that \"new home anxiety\". Butch will make someone very happy and he deserves a good home.

December 26th - Butch is a total sweetheart! He is so great with his foster pups, cat, and kids. He is wonderful with my 3 year old. He loves the snow and loves to play play play! He likes to be watch dog as he makes a little growly noise if someone comes to the door. A little shy with men, but does not get mean with them...just a little unsure. His first night with us, he decided to jump in the bathtub with my daughter and take a bath with her. Definitely a water dog! He is doing great with the free feeding and actually gaining some weight. Butch would make a great addition to any family!

Name: Cooper
Breed: Cocker Spaniel
Age: 6 years
Size:  Small
Adoption Donation: $150
Other:  Neutered male, vaccinations current

We are requiring Cooper to be adopted by someone with previous dog ownership experience and no young children.

Foster Home Feedback

\"\" June 27th - Cooper is a very sweet dog but he is unfortunately fearful of strangers.  This may make introductions to potential adopters a challenge.   Cooper has very much warmed up to to me, his foster Mom, but when visitors come into the home or meeting people while out on a walk, he has been known to growl and snap at them.  It has taken a couple of weeks but Cooper seems to have finally warmed up to my adult daughter.

In order to help Cooper overcome his fears, we have been attempting to increase his confidence and introducing him to people in a calm, stress-free manner. We are also using lots of positive reinforcement (praise and treats) when he shows appropriate behaviours.

Cooper is not a cuddly dog but is very much a good companion.  He enjoys going for walks, especially along the river near Lindenwood park, and playing fetch with his toys.  At times he can be a bit aloof, but he is more than willing to be attentive to you when you have food or treats!

\"\" Cooper is completely housebroken and has now earned my trust so that he doesn\'t have to be crated during the day when I leave the house for a few hours.

Cooper gets along well with my daughters two dogs. They don\'t play together but all mutually tolerate each others presence.

\"\" Cooper loves to play fetch with his ball and toys.  He also occassionally enjoys a game of tug.  While playing or when frustrated (for example, when you stop thowing his ball for him) , Cooper will make groaning noises.  Although they may sound like growls they are not.

Cooper would do best if adopted by a quiet (ie. stress free)  adult only home. Preferrably by someone with prior dog ownership experience and can understand when Cooper is stressed.  We would encourage adopters to continue working on helping Cooper overcome his fears.

June 7th - I\'ve only had Cooper with me a few days so I don\'t know too much about him yet.  I do know that Cooper enjoys playing fetch with a tennis ball and going for walks.  He walks pretty good on a leash with minimal pulling.  Cooper is also very treat motivated and will gladly sit for them.  He is housebroken but isn\'t fond of his crate.  I entice him into his crate with a treat filled Kong which he loves!  Cooper is leery of visitors so I have been making sure that he is either leashed or crated when they come to the house.

Dante is a 3 year old male Rottweiler mix.  He is super sweet and loves human attention (especially scratches behind the ears!).  Dante was recently rescued from a local pound, so we don\'t know too much about him yet.  He seems to get along well with other dogs.  One thing we know for sure, Dante is a big teddybear waiting for a forever home to call his own!

 Foster Home Feedback

May 25th - Dante has been with us for a week now and he is so quiet, you do not hear a peep out of him.  The only noise he has made is when he is out playing with his foster sisters.  He only plays for a short time otherwise he is very content to sitting on the deck and watching his foster sisters play.  He doesn\'t mind being brushed and enjoys a little scratching behind the ears and will easily roll over for a tummy rub.  Dante is very submissive and he is scared of loud noises but there is no aggression at all, not even with food.  He is small and a little on the skinny side right now but we are working on that.  He was scared to eat the first couple of days, he would only eat a nibble or two and then go lay down but each day gets better in fact the last 3 days we have had to refill his bowl.  We put 2 cups in his bowl in the morning and in the evening we refill it with 2 cups and he eats about half.

Darla might be mixed with border collie as she shows some border collie mannerisms and her coat is longer than a labrador. She is very sweet. She just wanted to cuddle up next to the volunteer who took her picture. She seems to get along with cats as she was uninterested in a cat she saw at the pound.

We do know that Darla will politely sit for a treat as she is doing so in this picture!

Foster Home Feedback

Darla is in need of a new foster home.

October 13th - She is a really sweet little girl. She knows how to sit, lay down, shake and roll-over! She knows to sit for a treat and or to to be petted. She loves to sit on my lap and get her tummy rubbed. She is very playful, but has destroyed the toys she came with. I bought her a big rubber bone that she loves to chew on. She runs outside and likes to play fetch. She did have a few accidents in the house the first couple of days, but is doing better. My small, older dog is still terrified of her, but Darla is learning to leave him alone. She doesn\'t mind being in her kennel too much. She is reluctant to go in, but doesn\'t whine when she\'s in there either.

\"\" June 29th - My name is Dooley.  I am a very happy dog and love to be with my people!  I am learning and listen well.  Mom says my only issues are chewing on things and I bark at my foster sibling when she won\'t play with me.  These are things I do once in awhile...not all the time:)  I love my boy Logan.  Sometimes HE plays too hard with me but the good dog I am just sits there or I go hide:)  He is two and sometimes forgets to play nice.  I love it here and my fosters love me and teach me LOTS, but now I want to share my LOVE with a forever home and show them what a sweet boy I am!!!

June 11th - Dooley is a very good boy, he is learning his manners slowly but surely. Consistancy is key. He is very good with my two year old son!!  He likes to be with us at all times he is a lover.  He plays a lttle rough with other dogs but its all play, I am working on this and his basic commands he is an older dog so we will get there:) He fits right in and loves everyone. The forever home he chooses will love him as we do.
May 26th - Dooley is lanky and very puppy-ish! He gets along with all our dogs and likes to smell everything! Dont be fooled by his cropped ears, he is very sweet and just wants to crawl in your lap and cuddle. He needs to gain some weight, but I think he will fill out nicely while he grows. He is pretty mellow for being young, not yet housetrained, but I dont think it will take long for him to pick it up. He is just looking for a nice home that will spoil him with love and laps to sit on!!

Hi my name is Eden and I\'m a 5 year old female Beagle. I am spayed, up to date on vaccinations, house trained and kennel trained. I\'m a sweet active girl that likes to take my human friends for walks. I play great with other dogs and I get along with cats. I\'m a bit shy around men but I\'m sure once I find Mr. Right I\'ll warm up to him. Like other beagles I like to talk but if you keep me exercised and engaged with toys I\'ll be too tired to get bored. I used to get sick when I was overweight but now that I\'m fit and trim I\'ve had no problems.

My current family can\'t keep me anymore and I\'m looking for someone to spend the rest of my life with. If you\'d like to know more about me you can call 701-845-9729.

She gets along with other dogs and appears to be housebroken. Please consider adding Ember to your family.

Faith came to us through a good Samaritan here in Detroit Lakes. Her owner was unable to keep her, so a friend rescued her and brought her in to Lucky Dog knowing that we would be able to find her a loving home. Faith is a very sweet girl, she loves to give kisses and loves attention! She\'ll let you hold her like a baby and she loves all people... She is spayed and she does have a high prey drive so she would do better in a home in a home where she was an only pet.

Meet Fred a handsome and happy boy!   He appeared to do fine with the cat that he met at the pound, sniffed and followed behind the kitty but was friendly towards him.  Fred appears to know what the chuck it ball is as he had that in his mouth the entire car ride from the pound.  He\'s a very nice boy who will make a wonderful companion for an active family.

Foster Home Feedback

June 27th - Fred has been renamed Gunner. Gunner is such a puppy still!  He is very playful with people that he knows but he is very, very nervous of strangers.  If somebody walks into my house that he does not know, Gunner just freaks.  He barks and hides around the corner – he definitely had something horrible happen to him before coming to the rescue.  He seems more scared of men but is timid of both men and women.  But it does not take him long to warm up! And then you can’t get rid of him.  He loves other dogs and would love another dog to play with.  He gets along well with my small dog and he does ok with my cat.  He does sometimes want to chase him though.

Gunner is a very high energetic dog. He needs daily exercise or I think he could be destructive…. but I have not had any issues.  He is a very “mouthy” dog as he carries everything around in his mouth – shoes, remotes, pillows, etc. And he loves to play fetch. Gunner is crate trained and is in the kennel while I am at work.  He sleeps on a dog bed at night and does great.  He is a bit of a counter surfer but I think this is an easy fix with a little discipline.

Gunner would do best in an active household.  He would do great with older kids that will play with him.  He is a great dog waiting for his forever home!

\"\" July 25th - Gypsy is doing very well! She LOVES people, is the biggest cuddle bug ever, and will give kisses all day!! She doesnt have the best dog greeting habits, but I think it is lack of socialization. Once she was around our dogs for an hour, they have been playing non-stop ever since! We have been leaving her out when we leave the house, and she actually does much better being left out then kenneled. Nothing is destroyed and there are no accidents when we get back.

She needs some constant training. But she is picking up on \"Sit\" and \"Down\". She already knows Shake very well! She has also picked up \"Sit Pretty\" and \"High Five\". She does well with treat motivation, and I think would do well in training classes. She needs some leash manners, but she isnt too bad, just needs some correcting.

I havent had her around kids, but I think she would be just fine. I\'ve pet her roughly and even layed my head on her and she did just fine with it, as long as your are touching her she is happy!

She is just looking for a family to give lots of kisses to and cuddle with in bed!

July 19th - Gypsy just came into the house tonight. It was a rough start with my female pittie and Gypsy, but we are finally all getting along and laying on the couch hanging out. Gypsy loves to play with my male pit and was playing like a puppy while we were outside. We have had no accidents yet, although she seems to whine just a little bit while she is kenneled, that could be the problem when she is in a house she doesnt know though. She is a big sweetheart and loves to cuddle up in your lap and be pet. Gypsy is just looking for someone to spend some time with her and show her how to be a real dog! Age: 15 months
Size: Medium (45 lbs.)
Adoption Donation: $150

We welcome Havana who has been REUNITED with her littermate Harper (see foster feedback below for details).  Havana is a very friendly, sweet pittie mix.  She loves romping and playing with other dogs in the foster home (however, Havana is not cat friendly). She is both house and kennel trained. Havana knows basic commands such as sit, down, shake, and off and responds willingly and easily.

Foster Home Feedback

February 11th - For those of you that are 4 Luv of Dog followers, you may well remember the story of Harper, who came to 4 Luv last June by way of Paws for the Cause Rescue.  Harper came to 4 Luv emaciated and broken, and supporters came forward to assist with her recovery.  When Harper was picked up, Paws for the Cause was initially contacted to rescue TWO littermate sisters, who were found in pit-banned area and were going to be shot if not rescued immediately. However, when Paws for the Cause arrived to pick up the girls, only the broken dog, Harper, was to be found and Paws was told the littermate had been \"given away\" to a mystery person.  We, as fosters for 4 Luv of Dog, fostered Harper through her surgical repair and recovery and later adopted her, and of course always wondered in the back of our minds where her sister had ended up.

Now, seven months later, Harper\'s sister (Havana) has come into our hands.  She too was picked up by the police in the same area, but a dispatcher thought Havana was such a nice dog that he rescued her and kept her in his garage for a week until a temporary foster in a nearby town could be found. When the temporary foster sent a picture of Havana to Paws for the Cause Rescue, only then did Paws realize it was Harper\'s littermate, at long last accounted for.  It is with much joy that we are able, and grateful, to foster Havana and help to facilitate her adoption into a permanent, loving, stable home. Unfortunately, in the past seven months, it is apparent that Havana has reared puppies.  How sad that there are now more puppies, left behind, who will likely live like Havana and Harper had, and risk being captured and potentially shot because of the local area pit ban.

Havana is a wonderful friendly dog.  After arriving, she took a few days to let down her guard and settle in, but now she is one of the pack and rolls as they do.  She is obedient, and readily responds to simple commands.  We have taught her to kennel when we leave the house, and she is pretty much completely potty trained now also.  Havana is a joy to have around and follows us from room to room, or ventures off to pester her lounging sisters. I think she is enjoying her stay with us, while she awaits her forever home.  Please consider her for yours. :-)

Hello! My name is Hector. I sure am happy to be rescued from the pound. I want to send a BIG THANK YOU to the wonderful people that offered to sponsor me and to provide me a foster home!

Foster Home Feedback

\"\" May 13th - Hector is a dog who just loves to love.  He loves people, dogs, cats, everything.  He is great with my 4 cats.  He plays a little rough with my dog but gets along well with him.  I think he would do great in a one dog only home or with another dog that likes rough play.  Hector needs to be indoors.  He is not an outdoor dog.  He loves to be with people and lick faces and ears (which I don\'t let him do to me).  When he gets let out to go potty, he cries immediately when he\'s done to come back in.  He also cries when left in his kennel when people are in the house, so he wouldn\'t like to be kenneled at night.  He sleeps well at the foot of my bed, or on a dog bed on the floor.  He does very well being kenneled for long periods when I\'m at work.

Hector has never peed on anything in my house.  If I let him out 3 or 4 times a day, he has no problems.  He\'s not a high energy dog, but would benefit from an occasional run in a fenced area.  He does well indoors if he has a couple toys to play with or something to chew on.  He has a strong desire to please so he\'s always trying to do what I tell him even though he doesn\'t understand most of it. He is smart and will learn what people are saying to him very quickly.  He does know some commands, but it would make him feel proud to know more.

January 4th - We\'ve had Hector for 3 months now and he has been absolutely amazing. He needed a little space and time to adjust, but after about a week he trusted us quite a bit and since then he has really grown attached to us (and us to him!). He was pretty skinny when he came, but we have been working hard to \"fatten\" him up. Looking through our pictures it\'s hard to imagine he was as skinny as he was! He has been wonderful with other dogs he has met, loves to wrestle with our dog, and whines when our cats don\'t want to cuddle with him.

It seems that he has been mistreated in the past so it is important that he be handled with a very gentle, calm demeanor. Hector loves to love. He loves going for walks and runs and he really loves learning new commands. He knows \"sit,\" \"shake,\" \"wait,\" \"down,\" \"outside/inside,\" and he is working on \"drop/leave it.\" But his favorite thing to do is cuddle up on the couch with us and take a nap. He likes to bark at the door when someone comes but once they come inside all he wants to do is love on them.

June 22nd - You know, every day with this dog has been so much fun. He is so full of love! And man, can he learn FAST! My boxer Batista is 3-1/2 and my lab cross Boni is 7-1/2, and they aren’t as quick as he is! Hector is so full of puppy rambunctiousness that when it is time to go outside, he tries to barrel through everyone and be first out the door. Well, my porch/entrance is not that big, so when that happens shoes are getting knocked off the shelves and my feet are getting stepped on. LOL My three have always had a pattern—Boni goes first, Shorty the lhasa goes second, and Batista hangs back until they are out, then he goes. Hector completely threw a wrench in that! LMAO So, I have now been making everyone sit and stay inside the house at the door until I get the front door open, then I “release” them. Hector is the only one who listens reliably. . .LOL And my favorite is treat time—as I’m getting the other dogs to “sit” and “shake”, Hector is “shaking” like nobody’s business—his paw just keeps trying to shake with me and keeps hitting my arm like “See—I’m shaking—give me a treat!” What a dog!

He is still very “puppy-clumsy”, so I don’t think he is any older than a year. When he got neutered, the vet also feels he is probably no more than 10-14 months old, as his teeth are absolutely clean and perfect yet, looking in the back as though they are just barely fully in.

I think whoever had him before showered him with love, because he sure knows how to give it!

June 7th - We have now reached the end of our second full day with Hector, and they have been busy and absolutely fun days. We picked him up at the kennels on Thursday late afternoon and he was SO happy to go with us! He was full of kisses and playfulness from the first minute my son and I picked him up. When we got home, we first introduced him to our lab cross, Boni, and they immediately \"clicked.\" Hector is definitely not a dominant dog in the least, and as Boni is the \"leader of the pack\", next to us, it was important that those two got along. The meeting went very smoothly. We next introduced him to our little lhasa, Shorty, and that also went very well. This was kind of a surprise, as Shorty definitely, um, suffers from \"little dog\" syndrome, and has a tendency to be kind of bossy. ;-) The last dog we introduced him to was our boxer, Batista. That didn\'t go quite as smoothly, but not on Hector\'s part. He was wonderful. Batista just took a bit longer to \"accept\" him into the pack, so we did that introduction quite gradually over the next couple days. Hector did what he could to make friends, and it worked! He and Batista have had a great day today, romping and chasing--couple of real clowns, those two. . . :-)

Last night, we also introduced him to one cat at a time. The first one we introduced him to was Lucky, as he is our oldest and most adaptable. Lucky went right up to him and began to rub Hector\'s chin. He obviously has either been around cats before, or is just that awesome of a dog, because he seemed to really enjoy it. He does not go out of his way to approach the cats, which is great as Twinkles (our second eldest) is not a big fan of dogs, but when they come up to him he seems to really enjoy the attention!

We also have found that he REALLY likes little kids. Our neighbor came over with her little daughter who is about 20 months old, and we first let them check each other out through the fence. She then brought Paige in, and he was as gentle as a lamb with her. She hugged him, he licked her, didn\'t jump on her at all, and they had fun with throwing the ball around the yard and chasing it.

All in all, Hector is showing himself to be a GREAT dog! Right now I just glanced over at him and he has made himself quite comfy our our bed. . .guess he\'s saying it\'s night-night time!

Foster Home Feedback

May 28th - Now that Henry has settled into his foster home, here\'s a little update on how he\'s doing. He has not had an accident in the house for quite some time. And if he has, it was probably our fault for not paying attention to him. Once outside, Henry does his duties promptly and then it\'s time to play! He really enjoys having a fenced yard and finds it difficult to go potty on a leash, but given some time I am sure he would get used to that.

Henry has been a great walking and jogging partner! I know that he wishes I could run a little faster though!! He still occasionally pulls to smell something or to great people passing by, but is overall pretty easy to control. He knows how to sit and lay down.

He has shown no food aggression with my two dogs. If they steal his rawhide, he will try to get it back but has not been agressive at all. In his leisure time, he enjoys resting on his back with his legs up in the air. He always keeps one eye open just in case someone is ready to play! He has done well with every dog we\'ve introduced him to, and really loves running around. We introduced him to a cat as well and he just wanted to play (of course). He also enjoys chewing on the occasional shoe, but if you give him one of his toys to chew on he will stop.

Henry sleeps in his kennel and stays in there when we are gone. He has been an escape artist once or twice, but hasn\'t done that recently and seems to be getting used to the kennel, and will even go in there to rest when there\'s nothing else going on. He sleeps through the night and is ready to play when you get up in the morning!

So why choose Henry over any other black lab? He will put a smile on your face and make you laugh every single day! He definitely needs daily exercise, so if you are looking at getting in shape, Henry could be your trainer!! He is a big goofball that is ready to find his forever home and play and play and play and play!!!

April 16th - Henry has been at our house for 3 days. He had his neuter surgery and was ready to play right when we got him home! It is hard to keep him \"quiet\" as he has a lot of puppy energy to expend. He is very playful, and enjoys playing with tennis balls. He is house trained for the most part. He has had just a couple accidents, and is improving! He doesn\'t like to go in his kennel, but we are working on that. At night he whines for just a little bit and then quiets down and is soooo excited to see you in the morning!! He loves to go on walks, and is generally pretty good but pulls on the leash when he wants to go pee on a tree or sniff something interesting. Henry is such a sweetie and has so much love to share!

Jadon will do best in a foster home with just one other cat, or no pets so he can have ALL the attention and love ;) He would be happiest in a home without a lot of commotion. Please consider adopting Jadon.

Owner placed Jadon in a too small carrier and left him outside an area business this winter in early morning hours. When found he was very cold, we figure he had been outside for several hours atleast.

March Foster Home Info: We changed his name to Jadon. Someone will be very fortunate to have this guy in their home and in their hearts. He´s definitely a loyal companion cat and LOVES to be held. Actually, he LOVES to be held tight so that he can snuggle into your neck.

February 15th - (Jo Jo has been renamed Pickles by his foster home) Pickles has been learning fast! He\'s quite settled, and has learned the do\'s and don\'ts of being at our house; he can run outside to go potty and comes right back, knows many commands, and kennels right when you tell him to. He loves playing fetch, or chasing snow! He likes to play a lot, and gets a little stir-crazy if he doesn\'t get to burn some energy.  When we are at the pet store, Pickles will bark occasionally when there are lots of other dogs around. He doesn\'t bark at home unless he really needs to go outside. We haven\'t had an accident at home for a few months; just the first week or so when he got here. He\'s also getting better at understanding when you talk to him, so he knows when you want him to come, go away, stay, not do something... quite well behaved! Pickles does pretty well with small children from what we\'ve seen, and could probably be trained to avoid cats, which he currently loves to chase.

December 5th - Jo Jo is a very playful energetic young dog. He LOVES attention and will follow you everywhere. He understands sit, lay, and down. He walks fairly well on a leash but if there’s something moving in his line of sight he will try to chase it. He goes easily into his crate when I leave for work. He is friendly to strangers and other dogs. We are trying to teach him not to chew on everything (the only causalities so far have been his toys) and not to put his paws on the counter tops. Overall he’s a great dog and we very much enjoy our time getting to foster him.

Poor Kane had a rough life.  He was at the pound at only 6 weeks old!  Luckily we were able to save his life and he is now being fostered and has foster dogs and cats to play with too.  Keep posted for more information on this adorable pup!

Foster Home Feedback

July 20th - Kane is a very playful puppy who whines if you don\'t give him the attention he needs.

He is good in his kennel, but whines if he wants to play or potty. If he gets enough attention he usually just goes to sleep and doesn\'t make a sound.

Hasn\'t quite caught on with house-breaking yet, but is catching on at a reasonable pace for a 6 week old puppy!

He is starting to figure out what NO! means, because he quits what he\'s doing when he hears it.

He LOVES playing with our Boston Terriers, but we haven\'t had him around large dogs yet because he is still too little to risk it. I don\'t think he\'s even noticed we have a cat.

When you take him outside, or even walk through the house, he never leaves your side, so it\'s pretty surprising he was a stray!

December 23rd feedback from worker at the boarding kennel he is currently staying at - Claus is improving leaps and bounds. He is learning sit and heal.He no longer rushes out the door dragging us, but waits for us to go out first. We are using a Halti when we walk him, so he don\'t walk us. His barking has become less. He still chews on everthing! (Claus 4, toys and rug 0) He is a dominant dog, but is gently learning we out rank him. He is learning release and drop when playing fetch. He will now bring me a toy and ask to be played with instead of not letting me have the toy. He requires lots of play time and exercise.

I was told  that she like to sleep in bed with people, but does OK in the kennel.  Is not food aggressive.  She is very affectionate giving kisses right away. She has already fallen in love with the everlasting treat ball that I have here, but I usually refer to as \"puppy crack\"  as the dogs cannot leave it alone.

Libby is a sweet girl that is looking for a forever home.  She is playful and working on becoming a little lady.  She is getting better with walking on a leash.  She likes to grab things with her mouth and will pull on the leash and your clothes.  She has done well in the kennel.

Foster Home Feedback

Libby is great!  She is making great progress.  For example, at first I had a little problem with her being \"mouthy\" while I tried to leash and walk her and even when she was running loose around me (probably due to herding instincts).  I think this last week I have really had a breakthrough with her.  I bathed her and and tried brushing her and she calmed down long enough for me to get through her fur.  Everyday she gets a little better.  I have sat her down and brushed her 3 times now and each time she gets calmer and calmer. She actually licked my face and instead of trying to grab the brush out of my hand, she licked my arm.  She doesn\'t grab at my hands or my clothing anymore but she does come up to you as if she wants too but I\'ve really used positive reinforcement with her when she is behaving.  She gets along with my 3 other dogs well but really likes to play rough and tumble games.  She doesn\'t realize her size and is quite clumsy.  When I do go to take her collar, she sits immediately and when she approaches me I have asked to sit and she knows the command.  I have walked her several times on a leash and she does need some practice.  She seems to understand and seems to want to learn how to properly behave for me.

I feel Libby would do well with a fenced in yard so she has room to run off her energy.  When she plays, after 15 minutes, she settles down nicely and looks as if that is enough exercise for her.  I do believe that her forever home will need to keep her on a schedule run/walk or exercise schedule to let her burn off her energy.

It doesn\'t seem to bother her to eat in front of the other dogs but she does seem to get a little bothered if I am standing next to her while she eats.  I am just going to have to continue to work with her so she realizes she needs to trust me that I am taking care of her now and she isn\'t in any danger any longer.  I have high hopes for her, and I hope that she find a nice home to go to soon.

I have not seen any aggressive behavior as in growling, biting or any body signals to make me believe that she has that side to her.  I trust her with me, I trust her with my other dogs.  She does like to jump up on people, so I am working with her to stop this behavior as she could easily knock down a child.

Libby hopes you will give her the forever home she wants!

Meet Lucky!  He is a very nice husky who is looking for his forever home.  Lucky likes other dogs (large and small), loves kids and is good with cats.  He is housetrained and always lived in the house.  He is a gorgeous dog, he is a lazy \"lay around\" kind of dog.  He is a smart boy because when he goes outside, he digs a few holes to lay in and try to be cool.

Foster Home Feedback

June 16th - Lucky is a gorgeous dog! These pictures do not do his piercing blue eyes justice. He is incredibly laid back and loves lounging around. He is currently living with two other dogs and three cats. He isn\'t much for playing with the other dogs as he\'d rather be brushed, petted, or have his tummy scratched. Lucky walked right up to a hissing cat and walked away, so he has no interest in cats whatsoever. Lucky is definitely an inside, lazy, house dog who would love to find a companion to keep him company!

This dog is not in the care of 4 Luv of Dog Rescue.  Please see the below description for further contact information.

Maya is a female English Springer Spaniel. She is 9 years old, and very sweet and loveable. She is extremely well potty trained, loves to fetch, play ball and run as well as curl up and cuddle in your lap for loves. She is better running free than walking on a leash but will do fine with a halti on.

She would do best with no other dogs; she shares a home with a pug right now and gets along fine most of the time, but she is food and toy possessive so better alone. She does have storm/fireworks anxiety, and we have medicated her before with anti-anxiety medication to help with her fears. She is not destructive at all, no chewing, etc. She does not have seperation anxiety and is fine home alone during work hours.

She LOVES the water and the lake is her favorite place to be. She listens well, sits, stays, lays down, shakes and comes when called. Her only health concern is a predisposition to ear infections, especially during the summer when she is in the water alot. She may lick her paws if bored or nervous.

Maya is fine with older (school age) children but not younger kids. We are looking for a new home for Maya because we have a two year old and a baby due in one month and she is not getting the love and attention she deserves, and her food possessive behavior makes us nervous with very small children in our home. She has never bitten, but we don\'t consider her trustworthy around babies and toddlers.

We love Maya very much and have had her since she was 6 weeks old and are truly hoping to find a home where she gets all of the love and attention that she used to before we became busy parents! You will fall in love with her sweet, loving personality too!

If you would like to give Maya a loving home, please contact Cory or Melissa at 306-8601/306-7411, or email  melissa@rejuvclinic.com

Morgan was recently rescued from a local pound. Please consider offering him a foster or forever home.

Foster Home Feedback

Morgan needs a foster home.

July 22 Volunteer Feedback - Morgan was excited when I picked him up, but after a brisk walk he settled down nicely and even fell asleep in the car.  He knows how to sit and shake and he was extremely attentive when I brought out the treats. He was very polite when taking the treats. His leash manners are fairly good.  He doesn\'t pull you around, but he could use work on heeling. He gets along with other dogs and enjoys playing with them.

Morgan is a very smart boy as has figured out how to climb out of a 8 foot high outdoor kennel and shimmy down the other side! I have not heard how he is with cats or kids. Morgan really enjoys human attention and just wants to please. All this sweet boy needs is a little exercise and training and he will be a perfect dog!

Foster Home Feedback

July 25th - Morrie is a very loving and playful dog.  He continues to enjoy going in the car and does really well on walks.  He loves to entice my other dog to play but since she is a little older she doesn\'t take him up on his offer (but it is definitely not for lack of effort on his part).  Morrie also loves to show affection and gives lots of kisses.   He so loves to give kisses whenever he has the chance.   He is still timid when meeting people at first but he continues to get better at this every day.  He recently has been marking around the house, though, and mark on my female dog so we are looking to have him fixed so hopefully having him fixed with help with that issue.

April 30th - Morrie (we\'ve been calling him Toby) overall has been great to have around and gets along very well with our other dog in the house.  He wants to run and play with her and enjoys keeping an eye out for where she’s at to play and learn more things from her day to day.

He is shy and tentative when meeting new people and to different things.  He certainly is willing to meet people but he certainly does come out of his shell after he gets to know you.  Once a little familiar with you, he will show you and does like to give lots of kisses.  His tentativeness of new people has gotten better as time goes as well.

We do kennel him during the day and he does pretty well with that.  It takes a treat, calm talk and little patience to get him to understand but he has been learning and doing this very well.

He seemed to be new to the leash and collar experience but overall has done much better.  He does very well on walks overall.  He is somewhat timid with newer things still, we walked into Petsmart a few times now and he is still scared of the sliding door and loud noises.  When he sees my other dog doesn\'t react he seems to calm down a bit.  It just takes time and patience as he is learning new things is all.  He does really like that we have a fenced in yard and makes use of that for sure.  He does very well on car rides and basically sits on the seat.  He does brave it every once in awhile to be by our other dog to sniff and take a closer peak out the window.  The more he is out and sees what\'s out there he sure loves it.

Foster Home Feedback

July 19 - Nala settled in quite nicely and is enjoying her stay. I\'d say that she has a medium/low energy level and is very mellow. Nala is a little skittish though of people and other dogs but warmed up beautifully to both after a 9 month old puppy and his family enticed her to play at the dog park. She walks well on the leash with no pulling though sometimes she walks TOO close and I end up tripping on her! I have no problems crating her and she does well while I\'m at work as long as I give her a stuffed Kong to keep her occupied.

She is treat driven and I started her basic commands. Nala is not too interested in toys but will do a couple rounds of fetch if she has some dog buddies to chase the ball with. She is very good at ignoring cats and
only gave a warning growl to my Attu when he poked too close to her toys.

She has no food or toy aggression towards people or dogs. She has the intuition that she\'s supposed to go outside to use the bathroom which is great!

The only problem I\'ve encountered so far is that Nala gets EXTREMELY carsick when she goes for rides. I\'m currently researching tips so that I can make trips more comfortable for her.

July 24th - Phoebe is warming up a lot more. She has learned to use the doggie door. I have woken up to see her and Orion outside playing in the morning. She is walking
better but still has her moments where she is not into going where the rest of us are going. Phoebe likes all the kids and people that stop us and ask to pet the dogs. She doesn\'t want to start walking again after that sometimes. We went to the dog park on Saturday for about an hour, she really liked it. Phoebe really likes being around dogs and she has to run up and lick every dog. She still sleeps most of the day and is only active about one hour of the day. So if that sounds easy enough for you, Phoebe is your girl.

July 18th - Phoebe is doing well.  She is still her lazy self.  She is happy to have Orion (her foster brother) to play with when she wants. Orion seems to get her to come out of her shell the most. I think its cause he bugs her until she gives in. Also she was happy to see her pound mate Phyllis at our place too. I think Phoebe would like to go to a home with another dog her size she can play with, and that helps bring her out more. She likes going on walks but doesn\'t have the energy like Phyllis and Orion. I\'m working with her to get her to be more interactive with people. I think that has been the only complaint we get from people, so I\'m trying to reward her every time she comes up to us and spends time with us. She will sit for a treat, but other tricks/commands she just doesn\'t seem to have the energy to care. If you\'re looking for a mellow dog that doesn\'t require much from you, Phoebe is the dog for you.

July 4th - Phoebe is starting to warm up, still very chill and sleeps most of the day. We had a few friends over Saturday and she got along with everyone. Think we got a little loud for her and she went in another room and laid down. She is not a big fan of the fireworks that have been going off but doesn\'t get as scared  as our dog. One of the people that came over brought another dog and Phoebe and her got along very well. I think their lower energy matched very well and they ranaround the back yard. We found Phoebe\'s favorite treat which is turkey burgers from Natural Pet Center.  She will do anything for them and they are very helpful in getting her moving. She still loves going for a walk that is when she seems the most happy. I think Phoebe will be a great chill dog.

July 2nd - Phoebe is settling in nicely the 2 days we have had her. She still lays around a lot and doesn\'t want to do much, until we go for a walk because she really likes going for a walk. Phoebe hasn\'t had any accidents in the house.  We are still working on getting her to use the doggy door. She likes Orion, our black lab mix, but he wants to play and she wants to cuddle.  They have gotten along well and Orion gets her to play for a while. She walks nicely on the leash. We are working on some commands but she does know sit. Stopping before crossing the street is coming along. She is good with people we meet on the walk and is very friendly with everyone. She hasn\'t barked unless Orion gets really excited and then she seems to bark to try to calm him down. I think she will warm up to us more over the next few days and we will know more of her personality.  I think we are still feeling each other out.  Phoebe is really sweet but does need some time to adjust to home life, but would make a great pet for anyone willing to love her.

Phyllis is a sweet girl who was left all alone in the pound until 4 Luv of Dog Rescue came to save her.  She is now enjoying life in her new foster home with a foster dog brother too!  We will get more information about her when she settles in to her new home.

Foster Home Feedback

July 24th - Phyllis is so sweet and loves to cuddle. She got a bath this week because she got a little muddy. She was really easy to give a bath to.  S he jumped right into the tub and just stood there until we were done. I wish every dog was that easy to give a bath to! She is so willing to please and will work so hard to make us happy. We let our dogs on the coach but she will look at us every time as if to say is it
ok if I come up and sit with you. It\'s so cute and it just melts your heart. We went to the dog park on Saturday. Phyllis did great.  She was friendly with everyone. Since she is not into playing with other dogs, she walked around finding people to pet her, and just exploring the park. Phyllis does get excited when you are doing anything with her but can be calmed down if you work with her. If you aren\'t moving around she will just lay down and rest until you leave the room. Then she has to follow you because you might need her. If you\'re looking for a fun dog to cuddle with, Phyllis is the dog for you.

July 18th - Phyllis is doing great. She is learning the rules of the house and that we have things under control and don\'t need her help with the other dogs. She seemed happy to see Phoebe back (her pound-mate) and they get along well. She has learned how to shake so we can add that to her growing list of tricks. Her energy level is coming down now and she only gets excited when she know we are going for a walk or when we come home after being gone. We found that Phyllis is not cat friendly when she jumped out an open window to chase one! She didn\'t get it and seemed to be playful and came right back but the cat didn\'t like it. She will also bark if she sees the cat a few houses down through the back fence. We can get her to stop, her bark is very low tone not very loud, but I don\'t think a home with cat would be a good idea.

She really likes to follow us around and will lay on top of us if we let her when we sit down. I\'ve been calling her my little helper because she just wants to please and do anything to make us happy. She is not into playing with the other dogs. Orion (her foster dog brother) tries very hard to get her to play she just ignores him.

She\'s not been food aggressive at all while she has been here. I can take the food bowl away or touch her while she is eating and she is fine. All the dogs get treats together and eat next to each other without a problem.

Anyone looking for a fun little helper that will keep you warm at night, Phyllis is the dog for you.

July 13th - Phyllis has been with us for only 24 hours but she has totally made herself at home. She has a lot of energy and loves to get out and run in the back yard or go for a walk. When she is in the house, she is really good and no messes so far. She didn\'t jump on anything but will come up when asked to lay next to you. She follows us everywhere.  She really wants to be with people. She knows how to sit, lay down, and stay. She is really smart and has a high desire to please.   Her high energy means you need to stay calm and she will do what you want. She gets along with our dog. She doesn\'t want to play but as long as he doesn\'t mess with her she could care less what he does.   A friend stopped by with their dog who is not very dog friendly, and thought we still had our previous foster dog.  Phyllis did really well when the other dog nipped her...she just moved away. She also did well with some very young kids that ran up to us on the walk and wanted to pet the dogs. She let them touch her face and seemed a little nervous but did very well.

I think Phyllis would love a home where she can be the center of attention and she will work very hard to please you. Even though she has energy if you are just relaxing and watching tv, she is perfectly happy laying down next to you.

Foster Home Feedback

July 27 - Hello!  Pudgey\'s foster mom and dad here, providing an update on our wonderful young man!

Pudgey is truly an amazing foster dog...we are so happy with him and know the person (or people) who adopt him will not be sorry!

We\'ve been trying to think of the best way to describe Pudgey and I think we\'ve finally come up with it!  What we love about Pudgey is that he\'s as playful or relaxed as you need / want him to be!  When we grab Pudgey\'s leash, he\'s ready to walk and walk and walk, as far as you go!  However, if you\'re having a day where you just want to curl up in bed and watch movies, he\'s more than happy to lay down right next to you (when invited to come up on the bed of course) and snuggle.  The closer Pudgey can get to you, the better!

Unlike most labs, Pudgey isn\'t into \"fetching.\"  He\'s prefer to run to the ball, stare at it, and then come running back to you for more love.  He moreso loves to explore outside or just sun himself on the lawn.

A few weeks ago, we noticed Pudgey was biting at his paws quite a bit.  When we spoke to the vet, she indicated this could be the sign of a wheat allergy.  Knowing this, we\'ve put Pudgey on a wheat free diet and are hoping he\'ll leave his little paws alone!  We also continue to put ear drops in Pudgey\'s ears every 3 days to avoid any ear infections.  These items certainly don\'t seem to bother Pudgey!  He acts as though he\'s the happiest dog in the world at all times!

We continue to NOT kennel Pudgey during the day as it\'s simply not needed.  He hangs out in our home when we are at work and we\'ve had ZERO issues with this.  We let him out during lunch and take him in the backyard to play and that\'s just enough of a midday break for him.

Pudgey has been traveling with us lately and loves to hang out in the back seat of the vehicle.  He loves to put his head out the window and breathe in the fresh air.  He can be a little nervous at first, but he settles in very quickly and remembers how much he loves rides.  As a matter of fact, the other day we had a vehicle door open and he just hopped right in!  We had to grab him by the collar to get him out!

An even bigger plus is that he continues to sleep through the night.  Not a peep from this guy other than an occasional howl when he is dreaming in his sleep (the cutest thing ever!).  Some mornings we practically have to drag him out of his bed...otherwise he might sleep all day!

Getting Pudgey to eat has been our biggest challenge to date.  We try to feed him one cup in the morning and one cup in the evening but usually he skips one of those meals.  We find ourselves \"cheering him on\" to get him to eat which often times will do the trick.  We don\'t want to force him to eat but we know he needs fuel in his body!

As far as kids and cats, we\'re unsure at this point as we aren\'t around a lot of either.  Pudgey doesn\'t seem very interested in cats when we take him to the Natural Pet Center with us, and we haven\'t been around any children with him to date.  If you\'re curious, fill out an adoption application and we\'ll make arrangements to see if Pudgey would be a good fit for you and / or your family!

Overall, we couldn\'t love this guy any more and are so excited for the family who gets to adopt him!  Pudgey will be at adoption days on Thursday, July 22nd so come and meet him there!  He\'ll likely be barking but please note this isn\'t his usual behavior.  He\'s MUCH quieter at home and at adoption days, just doesn\'t understand why he can\'t play with the other dogs!

July 1 - Pudgey is loving summer!  He enjoys being outside relaxing in the sunshine just as much as he loves curling up in front of the air conditioner on a hot day.

Pudgey is very proud to announce he’s learned to “shake!”  It only took him a couple weeks to learn and now he’s an old pro at it.  He already knows how to sit, speak, and lay down, so perhaps next we’ll move into rolling over!

Pudgey had to go to the vet two weeks ago for some ear infection issues.  He was on Ottomax for a week which worked wonders.  He was into the vet on June 29th and now he’s on a steroid (ear drops) 3 – 4 times per week to prevent these ear infections from occurring.  He also takes Benadryl as recommended by the vet to help with any potential allergies.  These things certainly don’t slow him down however!  He still loves to run in the backyard with his “sister” (yellow lab), he still loves to cuddle, and he still loves to relax (more than anything).

We’ve taken Pudgey to the dog park several times and he loves spending time with other dogs.  When he\'s at the dog park, he likes snooping around, smelling the dog park, playing with the other dogs, and socializing.  He’s a perfect gentleman with his dog friends!

He continues to love going for rides and going for walks!  We usually do a 3 mile walk with Pudgey and by the end of it, he is dog tired!  Pudgey only pulls on his leash a tiny bit when you first start to walk him but after the first couple blocks there is absolutely no pulling at all.

As we’ve mentioned, you’ll notice Pudgey at adoption days because he is pretty vocal.  However, please note that at home, this is not his normal behavior.  He’ll bark occasionally in the backyard and when he gets excited in the house he makes a cute (but short) howling sound.  If you’re looking for a calm, relaxed dog who can also be playful (although would prefer R&R), Pudgey is your guy!

We are absolutely in love with this fun loving dog!
June 11th - Many positive things have been uncovered since we first brought Pudge into our home almost 3 weeks ago.  The first being we love him more and more every day and he is a SERIOUSLY…SWEET…DOG!  Such a good boy who sleeps through the night next to our bed, isn’t overly rambunctious, is house trained, and completely loves to be loved!

·  He definitely responds better to the name “Pudgey” so this is what we’ve started calling him.  J  It oddly seems more appropriate as well…Pudge is just too serious for this cute guy!
·  While Pudgey is NOT a fan of his kennel, we’ve found that he doesn’t even need it!  We started leaving Pudgey out of his kennel during the day and we come home to a perfectly intact house.  We’ve had zero issues with any accidents or chewing.  He’s fine just hanging out!
·  He knows how to speak!  We’ve added this to his trick repertoire.
·  He LOVES going for walks and knows the word W-A-L-K as well.  He is GREAT on a leash.  We try to do a three mile loop every day and he loves it!
·  Pudgey loves the dog park!  We’ve taken him there a couple times and he likes to roam around and play with the other dogs.
middot;  Pudgey has no food aggression issues and completely takes treats politely and respectfully.
middot;  While you’re likely to see many black dogs at adoption days, you’ll know Pudgey because he has a white spot on his chest in the shape of a heart.  Very suitable for this loving guy!
·  On another note, you definitely will not miss Pudgey at adoption days as he is VERY vocal when he is there.   Please do not let this deter you from considering him for adoption as this is not his \"at home\" behavior.  You’ll have to trust us when we say that in our home, he rarely makes a peep other than an occasional bark when he’s outside or a whine inside when he gets excited.  Apparently the adoption days setting is just too fun for him and he can’t hold in his excitement!

You’d be very fortunate to add such a well behaved dog to your family!  We know we feel lucky to even be fostering such an amazing pooch!

If you\'re interested in meeting Pudgey (and assuming he doesn\'t get adopted beforehand), we\'ll definitely have him at the June 17th Adoption event at PetSmart (6pm - 8pm).  Come visit!

May 28th - Hello!  Pudge’s foster mom and dad here reporting on the newest member of our foster family. Here’s just a few traits we love about Pudge:

· He appears to be house trained!  While he doesn’t hesitate to mark his territory outside, he’s a complete gentleman when inside and has had zero accidents inside our home.
·  He gets along well with other dogs!  We had no issue with introducing Pudge to our own yellow lab.  They got along well immediately and these two love to play with one another!  We\'ll be heading to the dog park this weekend for some more social time!
· He sleeps through the night!  Pudge sleeps on a dog bed next to our bed (not in a kennel) and enjoys just resting next to the bed at night.  He’s up with us about 6:30am, ready to get up for the day!
· He loves to be cuddled!  All you have to do is pet Pudge once and he’s your friend for life.  He’ll lean into you and let you know what should be scratched next!
· In general, Pudge just has a happy disposition.  He always seems to have a dog smile on his face!
· Pudge does great in a vehicle.  He hopped right up into our truck and loves putting his head out the window to catch some fresh air.  He’ll make a great travel companion!
· Pudge doesn’t seem to have any food aggression issues.  He didn’t eat much the first night we got him but now that he’s more comfortable he seems to be eating more without any issues.
· Pudge doesn’t try to jump on furniture!  While he’ll happily sit on the floor next to you when you’re on the couch, he doesn’t feel as though he should be on the couch too.
· Pudge does great on a leash!  Pudge is happy to let you put his leash on him and doesn’t tug when you go for walks.

Pudge doesn’t seem to bark but does whine a bit when he gets excited.  We’re working on determining what might cause this behavior and we’ll also work to correct it.

Pudge is also not a fan of his kennel.  When we try to put him in his kennel he turns into a little contortionist!  We\'re working with him on it though and already see some improvements in this area.  Pudge is currently in his kennel from about 8am - 12pm and then from about 1:30pm - 4:30pm.

Pudge already knows basic commands like sit, lay down, and speak!  We’ll work on some advanced commands while he’s with us (like shake and stay).  Since he is such a good dog, though, we imagine he’ll be with his “forever home” sooner rather than later!

Overall, Pudge’s happy disposition and laid back demeanor make him an excellent dog!  We simply love spending time with him and he made it very easy for us to fall in love with him!  If you\'re looking for a relaxed, laid back dog, he\'s your man!

May 26th - Pudge has only been with us a few days but so far, Pudge: Sleeps next to our bed at night; Sleeps through the night; Loves to play; Loves going for walks; Gets along with our yellow lab; Loveable, adorable...pretty much the sweetest thing EVER!

Name: Ripley
Breed: Pitbull
Age: 2 years
Size: Medium
Adoption Donation: $150
Other: Vaccinations current, neutered male
Ripley is a playful, loving dog who gets along with other dogs and cats. He also very much enjoys cuddling on the couch and falling asleep with his head on your lap.

He completely house and kennel trained.

Ripley needs an experienced owner who has a fenced yard. Ripley is extremely high energy and very smart. He needs daily exercise and an owner committed to his obedience training. He would do best in a household with teenage children but no small children.

Foster Home Feedback

April 30th -  Ripley is really enjoying the nice spring weather.  He and his foster brother, Rockie, spend most of the days outside within our fenced yard.  Ripley stays busy looking for rabbits and watching the runners and bike riders on the path behind our house.  He is no longer fence aggressive and is very appropriate in the yard.  Ripley loves to go on walks.  We try and take him later in the evening, when there is less traffic on the path.  He tends to get overly excited when he sees another dog, but he has really improved from when we got him a year ago.  He keeps us on our toes, and is a very observant little walker.  When we get home from the walk, he always has a great big smile thanking us.  We take him and Rockie on play dates to my parents house, where he has fun with their two dogs.  Ripley has really changed our perception of the pitbull breed.  He is just such a sweet, loving and happy guy.  He adds a great deal of laughter and joy to our house.  Ripley would be a great addition to a family who has time, patience and a nice backyard.
November 20th -Ripley is still doing great in our foster home. We have noticed that he has become more playful and energetic, which is really fun to see. Ripley is still working on being stress-free during walk time, and has gone through a huge transformation since we first got him. He is such a people pleaser and would be a great addition to any home that will continue to work on his training.

July 9th - Ripley is very sweet and loyal dog, and he has been such a joy to have as our first foster dog. He came into our home having been house broken, crate trained and taught basic commands. We have been spending the last few months working to make Ripley more comfortable on a leash and out in public. He has really shown great progress. Ripley and our dog get along great together, they both enjoy spending time in our fenced yard and out on walks. They share food and toys with no problems. Ripley likes to sit and look outside to see what action is happening, he is very curious. He is a very affectionate dog and eager to please. He will come when called and will usually follow me where I go throughout the house. Ripley is kenneled at night and has access to our fenced yard all day long. He has been learning new tricks and with some additional time and training, will be a terrific addition to someone\'s family.

February 22, 2009 - Ripley is wonderful! He has such a sweet personality and playful disposition. Since Ripley moved in, he\'s spent his days running a playing with his foster sister, Sadie. They LOVE to play tag in the front yard (which is funny to watch now that the yard is covered in snow!). Ripley is a very active dog, but once the playtime turns to sleepytime, he\'s the biggest cuddle bug! His favorite thing is to curl up next to you and fall asleep with his head on your lap.

Ripley is house trained and kennel trained. When he needs to go outside, he\'ll stand or sit by the door. If it\'s an emergency, he\'ll whine and let you know! He doesn\'t spend much time in his kennel, but when you need him to, he\'ll willingly go in and usually takes that time to nap. At feeding, his food is placed on the ground and Ripley will sit and wait for his eat command. Ripley can be a bit of a scaredy-cat, so we\'re still working with getting him comfortable around the mailman, or if someone he doesn\'t know walks past the yard, but we\'ve seen much improvement!

Having Ripley has been a joy, and he will make someone a very proud and happy owner!! If you love doggy-affection and being playful, please consider opening your heart and home to him!

Prior Update - Ripley is very people orientated and wants to be with his people at all times. I do crate him at night on occasion and he is very well behaved in his crate! If you tell him to \"kennel up\" or even just stand at the door of the crate he goes right in and sits down (waiting for his treat of course). He is an active dog and would do well going for walks or jogging but also loves to cuddle on the couch. Really, as long as he is with his people, he is happy! He will even lay outside the bathroom door and wait for you to come back out. He\'s agile enough to jump a baby gate to be in a room with you ;) He is awesome, has a huge heart and a lot of love to give.

Foster Home Feedback

June 28th - Rocky has been spending his summer with walks on the bike path and hrs playing at the dog park. He loves to play with all sizes and types of other dogs. On the hot days we have to wait until the sun goes down or it cools off enough. He doesn\'t have much stamina with the heat. He is being spoiled once a week with rawhide bones. He loves to chew but always keeps it to his own things.

May 11th - Rocky is such a great companion to have around. He loves to be wherever the people are, especially ones that like to throw a ball or scratch/pet him. He is great with kids and any size dog. He takes very well to anyone who is willing to give him even a minute of their time. He is extremely outgoing and loves to be loved and cuddled. He does well with commands: sit, stay, come, shake, and down. Rocky is a goofy boy and will definitely make you laugh at his antics. He loves to learn and aims to please. I have had him since Thanksgiving and he is still waiting to find a FOREVER home with someone to love him, as he will return that love plus a whole lot more!!

April 19th - Rocky is great with kids of all ages and any size dog. I feel he will do best in a home with another dog. He is still a puppy and loves to play. He absolutely loves going to the dog park. The most recent thing we have discovered for exercise is rollerblading now that the weather is nice enough. We try and get to the dog park daily for at least an hour.

January 14th - Today Rocky and I went to the dog park and he did wonderful! No signs of aggression with other dogs at all =) He is such a wonderful dog anyone who adopts him will be priviledged and very happy. He certainly aims to please and has the best demeanor. I really would love to keep him if I could. Our next task will be some obedience training and a spa day at Shaggy\'s this weekend. Hopefully we can be a part of adoption days this Saturday. He is also scheduled to be neutered Jan. 28th. ~Foster Momma

January 5th - Rocky was officially cleared of Parvo today!! We will be out socializing at the dog park and running like crazy for exercise. He has a lot of energy but settles down on his bed once inside. Chew toys are a must and we have gone through quite a few but he is very good about sticking to his toys. Any toy with a squeaker does not stand a chance. He is the most loving and sweet dog-I am privileged to be his foster mom. We hope to be a part of meet the dogs day very soon. He has learned a lot of basic commands such as sit, stay, down, & shake. I am very delighted to see that Rocky has turned around from an ill & underweight dog to a healthy energetic, playful handsome boy.~Foster Momma

December 29th - Rocky was rescued from a regional pound. He can be a little shy at first but when he warms up to you is very friendly. He did OK with other dogs at the pound and at a local dog park. Rocky was diagnosed with canine parvovirus . This can be a fatal disease in puppies and dogs. Fortunately, Rocky\'s condition was quickly identified and treated. He has fully recovered from it.

Rocky is an amazing dog! Everyday we are learning new tricks and getting better at kenneling. He just wants to be loved and needs lots of cuddling and sturdy chew toys. He loves to play fetch and can\'t wait until the vet clears him of his parvo so he can go play with other dogs! Rocky has really turned around and is in much better health thanks to 4 luv of dog rescue. I can\'t believe it\'s been 4 weeks and he is the same dog I picked up from the vet so lethargic. He has a ton of spunk now and is super eager to learn anything you\'re willing to teach him.

Roxy is a very cool dog. She loves to go for walks and would sit with you on a sunny day for as long as you will let her. Roxy is short and stout with a powder brown coat with white accents. Roxy was found as a stray and spent two weeks at a regional pound. No one came for her and she was on her way to be put to sleep, but the pound manager could not do it. Roxy is looking for a foster or forever home. Please consider her. Once you spend an afternoon with Roxy you will know why she is such a cool dog.

Roxy should be adopted by a home that does not have cats or other large dogs.  Roxy tends to do better with dogs smaller than herself.

Foster Home Feedback

Roxie needs a new foster home.

May 2nd - We’ve had Roxy in our home for three weeks now and she is such a great dog!  She enjoys long walks in the park and sweet potato treats.  She gets along with our two smaller male dogs just fine.  She has shown no signs of aggression at all towards them or anyone she has met.  She’s not very interested in playing with our dogs, or with toys, and would rather sit on the sidelines and watch.  She found her “spot” on the couch right away and will lay there for hours napping and watching everything else going on.  She likes being pampered, like any lady does, and will let you give her a bath, cut her nails and clean her ears without complaining at all.  She walks well on leash, but if she sees a biker go by she will try and chase them.  She hasn\'t had any accidents inside since the first two days we\'ve had her.  She hardly ever barks, but does whine in her crate some.  Overall she is a very laid back, independent lady and whoever adopts her will be very lucky!

April 13th - I\'m in love with this dog!  She is such a sweetie!  So far our dogs ignore her and she ignores them.  They will say hello, but that\'s about it.  She knows sit and can hold a treat on her nose and then catch it in her mouth.  :)  She also knows what walk and outside mean.  She loves giving kisses and has been very friendly to everyone she\'s met.

Age: 10 years

Sandy is a very lovable dog who loves to get and give attention.  She is pretty well trained to heel, although if you are willing to run, she is too. Sandy loves to play fetch and is great with kids.

Foster Home Feedback

\"\" June 21st - Sandy continues to be a wonderful dog and she is learning so quickly.  She has reached her weight loss goal and looks amazing!  She never ceases to amaze me with how great of shape she is in for her age.  She shows no signs of aging, her hips are in amazing shape, I have a hard time accepting that she is 10, this girl is going to be around for a while.  She continues to run with me every day, she is currently running three to four miles a day but she is also content to go for a walk if running is not your thing.  We also roller blade which is one of her favorite things.  She is in the process of learning her directions and is doing very well.  Sandy has also learned to come, lay down, wait, shake, and sit.  She has full run of the house with my Lab while we are gone and she has never been destructive or had an accident.

This past weekend Sandy came to my parents house with me, I learned that when in new houses she gets stressed out and does best if she only has access to a portion of the house for the first day or so.  This is probably due to the fact that Sandy has never really spent time in a house before she came into rescue and my parents have a large house.  It is not uncommon for dogs to become stressed out in new and unfamiliar situations.  The first night at my parents she did have a couple accidents in the house, something that has never happened in my house, but when she was only given access to the kitchen, TV room, stairway, and bathroom via baby gates and closed doors she didn\'t have a single accident and calmed right down.  Basically we kept her where we were and didn\'t let her wander the house.  I also believe she may have been confused as to where the door was to go outside.  When we left the house to run errands she was left to roam in her \"familiar area\" with my Lab and she did great, no accidents and no destruction.  At night she came to sleep with me in my old room and because it was a smaller area she did fine with no accidents.

At night Sandy gets to sleep in my room, she has her choice to sleep on my bed or on the floor and she usually chooses the floor.  She sometimes jumps on the bed right away but gets off on her own after 5 or 10 minutes.  She also treats the furniture the same way, she has her choice to be on the couch or not and she usually chooses the floor.  She continues to love attention and will follow you around the house just to supervise you.  The other day Sandy was exposed to an infant and she sniffed the baby and walked away, this tells me that she would be great for any family situation be it adults only, adults and teenagers, adolescents, young children, babies, or grand kids.  Sandy is also an ideal candidate for the person who wants to be able to exercise with their dog but have a calm dog in the home and does not want to deal with the energy of a young dog or puppy.  Give this girl a chance and I promise you won\'t be sorry!

May 14th - Just thought I would share this pic (see below) with you, it can go in her profile too if you like.  It was Bailey\'s first birthday yesterday so they had cake from Waggy Tail Treats.  Typical Sandy wouldn\'t take her eyes off the food to look at the camera, lol.  I am making them wait in this picture with their cake in front of them, HUGE step for Sandy, HUGE.

\"\"

April 20th - Sandy has been in our house for a couple of weeks now and she is doing very well.  Sandy was an outside dog at her previous home but 4 Luv of Dog believes that dogs should live inside as part of the family and as a result Sandy had to get used to the idea that she now lives as a 72 degree dog and not an outside dog.  She has adjusted beautifully and with only one accident.  At first it was almost like Sandy thought she was going to be in trouble for being inside and she wasn\'t quite sure how to navigate my stairs but there is no longer an issue with either, she now loves to be inside on HER bed or mine.  She craves human attention so much and I think part of the reason why she likes it inside now is because thats where the poeple are!  While we are home the door to the backyard is always open and she has access to the yard during that time.

Despite her age she still has A LOT of kick left in her, she and I go for daily runs, I only take her for about half a mile to three quarters and she is pooped for the rest of the day.  Her hips don\'t seem to bother her anymore after she started to take glucosamine and she is now able to jump on the bed or the couch.  Sandy is currently overweight so we are working at losing the extra weight, I am confident that as she loses she will become even more lively than she already is.

I have two dogs in my house and Sandy has no issues getting along with them.  I also have a cat and she completely ignores him.  I do not kennel her during the day, she has free roam of the upstairs with my Black Lab and she is not distructive at all.  She has never had a potty accident while left alone either.  I do find my shoes strategically placed upstairs in the living room when I come home but she is yet to chew on them.  Sandy doesn\'t really know a whole lot of basic obedience commands she can sit and that is about it.  We are currently working on down and come, she is learning quickly though.  Once she is reliable with those two we will move onto \"cooler\" tricks and maybe some hand signals.

Sandy is wonderful and if you have any reservations about adopting an older dog please try to place your misconceptions aside.  She will make a great addition to your household as she is still VERY active and full of life with TONS of love to give!

Sasha is a sweet, energetic dog who is looking for her forever family.

Sasha is good with kids but is a bit unpredictable with other dogs. Thus, we are recommending a home with no other pets.

Please consider providing Sasha the loving home she deserves.

Foster Home Feedback

June 12, 2010 - Sasha is doing great up here in Grand Forks.  She loves all the jogs she gets to go on and loves to play ball in the park. She also enjoys relaxing and laying on the couch watching TV.  Shasha is cheering on the USA in the World Cup. She also loves to go for car rides and stick her head out the window. She loves when we have bonfires and meet all the new people.

Sasha is a great dog and very loving and loyal! GO USA!!

March 17, 2010 - I got the privilege of spending a couple of hours with Sasha at adoption days this past weekend.  She is a GREAT dog and will make someone very happy.  She loves to cuddle and give kisses and hugs.  She did ok riding in the back of my SUV on the way there and back to the kennel, she cried a little but that may be because she wasn\'t able to move freely around the vehicle since I put up a pet partition in the cargo area for my own dogs.  Once I started talking to her she calmed down and just looked out the window. She will also make a great training buddy for someone who runs but she also knew when it was time to calm down and relax.  Who ever is lucky enough to adopt this girl will truly be blessed.

November 16th -  Following is feedback from the staff at the boarding facility where Sasha is being cared for.
Sasha is doing really well. She is such a great dog. Sasha LOVES to play ball. She likes it the best when there is more than one ball to play fetch with. This way, she can drop the ball on the way back to you and you already have thrown another ball for her to go get. Due to her older age, she does tire a little more quickly than she would like when playing fetch. Sasha knows how to sit, lie down, is potty trained, and we are working on heel and come. She loves to please and loves attention, so both of these commands are fairly easy to work with her on. Sasha prefers to be with people instead of other dogs, but we are trying to teach her that dogs can be her friend too. Sasha was saved by 4 Luv of Dog Rescue from being euthanized and was adopted out twice. Both times she was returned and it was never her fault; they simply did not have time to care for a dog. Please consider bringing this great dog into your family, she would love to be your friend.

August 13th Volunteer Feedback - I took Sasha to adoption days at PetSmart. She was a very good girl on her best behavior. Sasha made sure to give as many kisses as she could and take advantage of all the belly rubs. She got along fine with all the other dogs, and she loves people of all ages!

Sasha went for a walk with my lab mix and they walked very nicely together, one on each side of me. Both dogs then flopped down on the kitchen floor together and appreciated the air conditioning. I did not have a chance to introduce Sasha to my cats. I put her in the kennel for a few minutes while I ran upstairs and she waited quietly for me to return.

Sasha knows sit and down very well and she heels nicely after she gets over her initial excitement. She has a lot of energy if she does not get a daily walk, but if she is walked she calms down. She sat still in the back seat of my car. I rolled the window down a crack. She stuck her nose to it, and I wondered how long it had been since she\'d gotten to experience a simple doggy joy like that.

Sasha is a great dog and needs a foster home or a forever home!

Scooby is an energetic, 8 month old, black and white female lab/pit bull mix. She would make a great addition to any family that likes to be active like swimming, running or hiking. She is current on vaccinations, wormer, and working very hard on her kennel training.  She is working on kennel training and doing well. She does well with other dogs, cats, and kids.

Scooby is a social, outgoing girl! She hasn\'t met a stranger yet! Scooby is doing very well with her volunteer that takes her through class on sit, down, heel and pay attention, although occasionally distracted! She is willing to work for food though, so as long as you have the treat, she can focus!

If you are interested in adopting Scooby, please contact Marshmallow Foundation/Lucky Dog Animal Shelter in Detroit Lakes, MN. Their phone number is 218-847-4100.

June 6th, 2010 - Shadow is very nice young lady.  She \"shadows\" me while I am walking outside and knows the sit, laydown, and stay command.  She is not food aggressive or aggressive in any way other than a little protective with new dogs coming into the home.  She barks at the door when she wants to be let out or will come and wake me in the middle of the night if she needs to go out.  She is completely potty trained.  She runs outside and loves the water.  She brought me a duck the other day (still alive) Don\'t worry, I let it go.  She also has brings me large mouth bass out of the lake (yes, still alive)  Not really sure if she is swimming or what but she is better than a fishing pole.  I completely trust her with my 7 year old and she is not aggressive with people if you let her know \"easy\" when someone comes to the door.  She has however, decided to lay on top of my car this last week.  I have caught her 3 times now standing on the hood on the very top.  I have NO IDEA why she is doing this.  Problem is, I need to catch her doing it so I can discipline her, but I always see the footprints later lol.  I am very happy how she has turned out and she is ready for a forever home.  Please consider Shadow when thinking about adopting, she will not disappoint you.  We love her very much and she is quite the cuddler.

May 10th, 2010- Shadow hasn\'t quite grew into her legs yet and I am not sure if she ever will.  She weighs in at about 70lbs and is very playful.  She does wonderful with my two other dogs and with my 6 year son.  She comes when she is called however, I unfortunately have called her \"baby girl\" a little too much and she seems to come to that more than Shadow...oopsie.  She tested negative on her heartworm and she will be going on her regimen of Heart Guard soon.  We will also be treating her with frontline.  She loves water and loves to play.  Her chewing stage has almost completely come to a stop but if given the chance and she is bored she will still chew so its best to keep her preoccupied if left alone.  She knows the sit, stay and lay down command but is very treat motivated, and if you don\'t show you have one, she will not listen to those commands.  She doesn\'t mess on the floor overnight and has graduated from not needing to be in a kennel at night, although doesn\'t have a problem to stay in one if need be.  In the early morning about 6:30am, she will come wake you up to go outside.  Out of my 3 dogs, she has been chosen to be the one to wake me up with either barking at my bedroom door and if the door is shut she will jump up on it and chew on the door handle like she is trying to open it.  Extremely intelligent dog and has a wonderful personality.  She is ready to go to her forever home and would make a wonderful addition to a family with kids.
December 3rd,2009 - Shadow was spayed today and did very well. She is still a very playful pup loving other dogs but somewhat submissive. She is very treat motivated knowing how to sit and lay down and working on spins. She is fully potty trained and sleeps in a kennel at night. She does like to chew so she still needs a bone or toy to keep her occupied. She weighed in at 62 pounds today and is a good runner that needs a lot of exercise. She also has quite a nose on her and loves the water and bath time. She is fine with cats but curious and does wonderful with kids. I have never seen any aggression from her since the day I started fostering her when she was just a pup. Great companion and loyal dog. Walks ok on a leash and comes when she is called. She had a good start and needs a forever home to continue helping her learn.

June 10th, 2009 - Shadow is doing very well in the house and seems to not have any problems in a kennel throughout the night. She doesn\'t whine or bark and snuggles up into her blanket and sleeps throughout the night until morning. I have let her out in the house and she has had no accidents at all. I did notice that she picks at her food quite a bit and likes treats so she may have been spoiled with treats too much so I will try to get her switched to a more normal diet very soon. When you do have a treat, she immediately sits down and waits for you to give it to her so she is using very good manners already. I have had her on a leash a couple times and she pulls sometimes but gives up and obeys pretty quick and will follow you. She stays by your side all the time and the funny thing is is that she likes to be held or on your lap. She is a pretty \"thick\" puppy already and has some weight on her so she is hard to hold for very long but when you do she puts her nose on your shoulder and seems very comfortable. She loves car rides, not sure why, but definitely loves to jump in the car and make herself comfortable. I was cleaning my car out and she jumped in the back and laid down and fell asleep. I have bathed her and again she did very good. I have other dogs in the home and she acts like a normal puppy around them, just wants to play. She is showing absolutely no signs of submissive peeing at all, so that is wonderful. She comes when she is called and listens when you tell her no. I think from what I see in her now, that she is going to be a very well behaved dog with the proper training and seems to be a very quick learner for such a young age.

\"\" June 25th - Shadow is a sweetheart who loves everyone she meets.  She gets along well with other dogs and cats.  She has a strong prey drive so would not do well in a home with kittens or other small animals.  Shadow is very laid back for a husky and is content to lay around the house all day.

Shadow does well on a leash when she is the only dog being walked, otherwise she will try to take the lead.  She knows several commands and loves to play fetch.  She is still learning her manners when greeting house guests.

This dog is not in the care of 4 Luv of Dog Rescue.  Please see the below description for further contact information.

Sheba came to us as a surrender from a home that couldn\'t care for her anymore due to a housing issue. She is a beautiful medium sized black Chow Husky mix who is sweet as can be at 5 yrs old. She will do better with submissive dogs rather than another dog who is dominant. She has the classic chow black tounge. She is looking for a loving home, preferably with a fenced in back yard, to call her own! Sheba is current on shots, housetrained, spayed, and has a negative heartworm/lyme test. Her adoption fee is $150.

If you are interested in adopting Sheba, please contact Marshmallow Foundation/Lucky Dog Animal Shelter in Detroit Lakes, MN. Their phone number is 218-847-4100.

Shyla has lost a lot of weight with the help of her foster Mom... and due to her LOVE of swimming! Read more about her weight loss here.

Shyla loves to go swimming and would swim all day if allowed!

With proper introductions and time to adjust she would do okay in a home with other dogs. She enjoys playing tug and wresting with her foster brother.

Shyla has successfully completed beginners obedience training. She catches on very quickly and enjoys the praise she gets for doing things right.

June 14, 2010 - Summer time is here once again and Shyla is super excited for swimming!  We went up to the lake over Memorial Day weekend and she was very confused as to why the dock wasn\'t out so that she could dock dive.  Two years ago she had zero interest in doing such foolish things as dock diving but last year she gave in and took the first plunge and has never looked back.

Shyla\'s a little upset because our vet office is having a \"biggest loser\" contest for pet weight loss.  She knows she would have won that competition hands down three years ago when she came into rescue tipping the scales at almost 100 pounds.  She still weighs in around the low 70\'s and we continue to be happy about that weight.

Shyla is most suited for an adult home that is quiet, yet still able to enforce guidelines with her.  Car rides and swimming (and eating of course) are the most active that you will see her.  The other times she\'s quite content sleeping on her dog bed or if invited onto our bed.  She did very well when she stayed with Drake (another 4 Luv of Dog lab who is available for adoption).  Drake\'s foster dad had very little issues with her.  The biggest issue he had was Shyla stealing the pizza on the table one night (sorry Corey!!)  She was however kind enough to leave one piece for him :)

February, 2010 - Shyla continues to do very well.  She is excited for the weather to warm up a bit so that she can spend more time at the dog park.  She had a recent weigh-in at the vet and surprisingly this winter she hasn\'t gained as much weight as she did last winter!  We were happy about that.  Shyla is still a bigger girl weighing in at 72 pounds, but we are pleased with her weight in the low 70\'s as she used to be 30 plus pounds heavier.   For those who have been following her for the past 2.5 years in rescue, don\'t worry....her diet is still active and she still hates it.

November, 2009 - We went up to the lake for Thanksgiving and once again Shyla was so very disappointed the lake was frozen over. She promptly ran down onto shore and was expecting water, instead she ended up sliding and falling over on the ice. As she did last year, she runs to the lake every potty break just to check to see if she can go swimming yet. Since the lake is frozen solid, she\'s been busy making up her list to Santa. It\'s quite a list so far and her foster mom most definately needs to edit the list. For some reason she thinks that a box of Oreo Cookies and Andes mints should be on there. She might be getting her list and my list confused :)

September 9th, 2009 - We visited the vet again for another blood panel on Shyla\'s hypothyroidism and things are continuing to look great. We will maintain her medication and do another blood panel in a year. She has successfully lost her winter weight...just in time for winter again! This weekend we we made our last trip to the lake for the summer. Shyla once again was thrilled to be in the water and I think even made a couple jumps without stopping at the end of the dock. She slowed down, but at least didn\'t come to a complete stop. Shyla did great this summer and our goal of dock diving was accomplished! Maybe Skijoring is next? I think she would love to do that, however it sounds pretty dangerous letting her have full control of where she wants to go...we should probably just stick to dock diving.

July 7th,2009 -  And dock diving is mastered! My first jump wasn\'t so great, but I really enjoyed it! Foster mom was really proud of me, I think she was just glad that she didn\'t have to jump into the water first. My foster family says that my technique is actually better than my foster brother\'s (but we don\'t tell him that, he\'s kind of spoiled). Now, I just need to work on not stopping at the end of the dock and just jump from a run so that I can get more distance. I started to learn not to stop on the last day of our vacation at the lake, but will continue to work on that next time. I really enjoy dock diving and can\'t believe that I haven\'t done this sooner!

June 19, 2009 - Well, summer time is here! Foster mom mentioned something about the lake and is now packing our suitcases! Yippee! I told mom that I will just wait in the car until Friday when we leave, but she said that wasn\'t a good idea, so now I will just wait by the door. All winter long, my foster mom, dad, and labrador brother have been discussing dock diving with me. I didn\'t want to do such non-sense last summer, I still don\'t understand why my brother enjoys it so much, but have told mom that if she jumps off the dock first, then I will take the plunge. Mom doesn\'t quite believe me, she thinks that I will just run back to shore and enter the water that way. Darn it, she\'s onto me! Well, I better go and make sure that mom packs all of my stuff for the lake and get back to waiting by the door! I can\'t wait for Friday to come and the swimming to begin!

xoxo Shyla

February 19, 2009 - We made our trip to the vet again for blood work on Shyla\'s hypothyroidism. Everything is fine and we will have another re-check in 6 months. The bad news was that over the past 6 months Miss Shyla has gained 6 pounds. She is well aware that weight will be coming back off. =) Spring is just around the corner, so that means more time at the dog park and the ice off of grandpa\'s lake, so this winter weight will be lost soon.

We also hope this spring we can get Shyla back into obedience classes as she did very well in Beginner\'s Obedience. We still are working on \"shake\" and \"roll over\", the \"beg\" command was solid by day number two. No surprise there!

January 10, 2009 - Santa brought Shyla a few things on her list of goodies which included a dog bed, which she absolutely loves! And of course, she got some treats, which she really really really loves! She was however disappointed that Santa didn\'t melt the lake for her. She was very confused why the water wasn\'t there. She continued to check the lake on every potty break, just incase the ice situation changed.

She is enjoying the dog park even with all of the snow, she runs and leaps through the snow chasing her foster brother with a huge smile on her face!

We recently found out that she enjoys to play with a laser pointer. She can\'t quite figure out where the red dot goes, but she is determined to find it! We swear she might be part cat with the way she pounces at the dot, it\'s very comical to watch her. Since she is obsessed with the red dot, we don\'t play with the laser pointer often as we don\'t want obsessive behaviors to start, but it does provide a few minutes of comedy relief each week.

We have been working on more obedience commands, we hope to get her back into obedience classes soon. She knows sit, down, stay, come, leave it, and back. We are working with shake, roll over, and beg. I am sure the beg command will be mastered shortly =)

She is doing MUCH better with nail trimmings. We no longer need to muzzle and lay on her in order to clip her nails. She doesn\'t like it, but she is tolerant, and she knows that if she is good she gets a treat. Of course, Shyla will do anything for a treat even if that means being nice during the dreaded nail clippings!

We will make another trip to the vet soon for another blood panel to check her thyroid levels. We aren\'t expecting any changes with her current medication that regulates her thyroid. She continues to do very well on her medication.

Shyla is a very loyal dog to her owners. She is very bonded with us, but she will bond with her forever family and will love you until the very end. If you can provide Shyla with a forever home, please fill out a pre-adoption application.

October 12,2008 - Shyla continues to do very well! We have a few bunnies in the backyard that she is intrigued by. She is positive that she could chase them down, but I think they would be way too fast for her! She would chase them if given an opportunity, but is respectful with leaving them alone as we have worked on the leave it command and she listens very well.

Shyla is not thrilled with the rainy weather. She doesn\'t like to go outside in the rain for potty breaks and has learned to do her business quickly and head back inside. This is surprising since she loves to swim and be in the water....very silly dog.

Her and her foster brother enjoy playing tug and wrestling, but when it\'s time to settle down they both understand \"enough\" and will calm down and rest.

The weight loss continues, but has been slowed down as she really only has a few more pounds to lose. However, her diet and exercise still continue. She continues to do well on her hypothyroid medication and still firmly believes it\'s a treat. Shyla is trying to convince us that she can have some Halloween treats (dog safe of course!) because she has done so well with her weight loss over the past year. With her cute little head tilt when she begs, she didn\'t have to do work very hard on convincing us!

July, 2008 - July has marked a milestone for Shyla...we have finally reached the 25 pound weight loss goal! Good girl, Shy, Shy! She still needs to lose a bit more weight, but we are very proud of Miss Shyla. When she came into our home she weighed 97 pounds and now is 72. Absolutely amazing! We recently visited the vet in which she had her check up on her hypothyroidism. Everything is good and we will maintain her current medication, she will need another blood test in 6 months. Silly dog still continues to take her daily pills as if they were treats. We continue on working with her behavior around strange dogs, she understands what \"be nice\" means and while she may growl if they sniff too much. There are some strange dogs that she is fine with, so it all depends on the dog. We went to the lake over the 4th and she enjoyed swimming again and went on her first boat ride. She enjoyed the boat ride and was fine with the fireworks. Shyla will be a great dog for the right family.

June, 2008 - We went to the lake and Shyla loves to swim, even more than what I thought she would. This labby is a big time swimmer!! She goes out to swim, just to swim. No need to throw a ball, she just likes to swim. She will carry a ball back onto shore, but if you are too slow to throw it back into the lake, she will just enter on her own and swim around. She doesn\'t understand why her foster brother jumps off of the dock after his ball. She seemed interested in following, but isn\'t quite sure yet. With some more experience on dock diving, she may enjoy it. Her endurance swimming is remarkable....she could and would swim all day if allowed. Even the neighbors at the lake commented how great she looked since they saw her this past fall. They couldn\'t believe she was the same dog! She did well with the kids this weekend. Children need to be taught not to touch her paws as she does not like that. But, she did very well with taking a ball gently from her one year old human cousin, she understands the \"gentle\" command, but needs to be told \"gentle\". She seems to enjoy extra attention from children and could do okay in a home with children as long as there are rules with where they can touch her. She does get crabby when her paws are touched, but we are continuing to work on that. We will go back to the vet for another blood panel at the end of June to check her thyroid functioning. She continues to take her thyroid medicine very well. We have found out that Shyla loves the cat food, so we have had to block the cat food access. Her weight loss has stopped due to the extra cat food she was able to sneak, but now that we have found out her sneaky ways the diet is back on, much to Shyla\'s dislike. She is holding steady at 20 pounds lost, hopefully next update we can increase that amount. We continue to go out to the dog park. Shyla is very good with dogs that she knows. She shows bossyness towards strange dogs still, but will chase her ball and leave them alone. She doesn\'t pick fights, but still feels the need to boss. With proper introductions and time to adjust she would do okay in a home with other dogs.

Prior Update: Shyla graduated from basic obedience and is still continuing to do very well! She is now enjoying the dog park and is slowly trying to make friends and play with strange dogs at the park. She still enjoys to fetch her favorite chuck it ball and roll in the grass. I know that she is dying to go swimming this summer as last fall she really enjoyed the water! She is doing very well on her thyroid medication and her tail fur has grown back completely!!! We will do another vet check in June to check her thyroid functioning and make adjustments if needed for her thyroid pills. She still thinks her medication is a treat...silly dog! She still continues to lose weight and now is quickly approaching a total of 20 pounds lost since she first came into our rescue program in August. With the extra exercise and swimming that this spring and summer will bring, I am very optimistic that she will continue to lose weight. She still has some extra pounds to lose, but we take things slowly as she was a very unhealthy weight when she first came to us. She is looking great and feeling great and will be an awesome dog for someone!

Prior Update: We are week 3 into obedience classes and I must admit that Shyla is doing better than I expected! She is one of the smartest dogs (and well behaved) in her class. She catches on very quickly and seems to enjoy the praise that she gets for doing things right. We are learning \"place\" which has been helpful at home, so that she is not right underfoot in the kitchen. Instead she will go over to her \"place\" and lay down. Staying out of the kitchen is really hard for Labs as they want to eat all the time, so we are really proud of this very food motivated girl that she listens and responds to what we ask of her. She continues to enjoy her foster Lab brother (still a bit bossy to some strange dogs) and continues to be good with the cats, even when they are in front of her food dish at supper time. For those that are looking for a mellow Lab, Shyla is your girl. She does not have the typical Lab energy and is really content to lounge around and sleep at your feet, but is still excited to see you when you come home from a long day of work. She would be best suited in a quiet home with an owner who is open to future obedience training with her.

Spot is a sweet, 6-8 months old, Pointer mix who recently came into our rescue. He is good with dogs and cats. We know he would make a wonderful companion.

Foster Home Feedback

June 14th - Spot is 100% housebroken, he paces by the door when he needs to go.  He sleeps in his kennel at nights without making a fuss and kennels up when you ask him to, unless he\'s already fallen asleep on the couch, then he needs a little extra encouragement to move to the kennel!  He LOVES to play fetch and loves his tennis ball so much that I need to hide it from him at times so he\'ll settle down.

Spot is a bundle of energy and needs plenty of exercise and gets a little stir crazy on rainy days.  Spot has such a sweet personality that he gets along with so many different types of dogs, big, small, even grouchy.  Spot and my (sometimes cranky) cocker spaniel initially got into a few spats but now Spot avoids conflict when my dog is giving him attitude.  Spot has made a best friend out of my Chihuahua and the way they play is so hilarious I could watch it for hours!  Spot does very well in the car, and sits in the backseat and eventually falls asleep and sleeps for most of the ride.  I think Spot would do best with a fenced in yard.  Spot needs someone willing to provide him with outlets for all of his energy!  He does well with older children but may be too rambunctious with babies or toddlers.  Spot does so good with other dogs and I have never seen him be aggressive.  Spot is just a happy go lucky dog and he is so easy to love.

February 25th - Spot is doing well at my house.  He is almost completely potty trained with regular outside visits and paces by the door when he needs to go out (most of the time).  He is a high energy dog and loves to play fetch and wrestle with his foster brothers.  He gets along well with other dogs and doesn\'t show any aggression.  Spot is very high energy and needs lots of exercise, and then he will be content to lounge on the couch with a rawhide.  Spot did well with my 5 year old niece and I think he would be good in a house with kids, but that was only a short visit, so I will keep you updated on how he does with kids.  Spot sleeps in the kennel okay, he cries for about 15 minutes usually, sometimes more, and he keeps his kennel clean.

Stormy is a very friendly, sweet Lab mix. She loves playing with other dogs. She is both house and kennel trained.

Stormy was featured in the That Mutt Blog, be sure to check it out!

Stormy has been taking beginners dog obedience classes at Red River North Dog Obedience Club. She is learning to sit, stay, down, and walk nicely on a leash.

Foster Home Feedback

June 16th, 2010 - Stormy is still waiting for her forever home! She is a very intelligent and cuddly dog. Stormy loves nothing more than going for a good run or long walk and then curling up next to you on the couch with her head in your lap. She would be a great running partner if you are training for a marathon! Stormy also LOVES to swim and is very glad lake season is here! She could fetch her frisbee in the water for hours!

I had been kenneling Stormy while I was at work, but I\'ve recently started leaving her loose in the house and she has been doing great! We are finally out of our chewing puppy stage it appears.

Stormy would make a great companion! I hope she can find her loving forever home soon, as she definitely deserves it!

March 17th, 2010 - I have now been in my foster home almost a year! My foster mom just does not understand why, because I\'m a very intelligent and sweet girl! Yes, I\'m big and have a little energy to burn off but what lab mix doesn\'t? I am well behaved in the house, know several commends including kennel up where I hang out while Mom is at work, and am super affectionate. I LOVE kids and playing with other dogs, too. The cats in my foster home tolerate me...sometimes I love cuddling with them, other times it\'s great fun to chase them! I hope I find my forever home soon, as I definitely deserve one!

December 7th, 2009 - Stormy continues to be a very sweet, loving dog. She loves going for runs and playing at the dog park almost as much as she loves cuddling up on the couch with me. Stormy is still a very energetic dog and will need a home that can provide daily exercise, as well as be a firm leader with her when she gets a little too excited. She quickly calms down when told she is being too playful in the house, however. She is extremely intelligent and is becoming a very good listener as she matures. She does great with sit, stay, lay down, and kennel up. She LOVES playing the snow with her foster brother and would ideally go to a forever home that has another dog for her to play with.

July 30th, 2009 - Stormy successfully passed her 8 week obedience class and is doing a fantastic job with her commands! She seems to really like pleasing me (and receiving treats for her good work, of course!). She really seemed to enjoy the class, so we might take the next level this fall if some lucky home hasn\'t adopted her by then. She also now walks like a nice young lady with very minimal pulling. Stormy continues to enjoy her runs with Lindsay from Run That Mutt and playing with her foster brother and the neighbor dogs. As a typical Lab mix, she thrives with daily interaction and exercise. Stormy would love to find an active forever home that can give her all the love she deserves!

May 26th, 2009 - We successfully made it through Week 3 of Obedience Training. Stormy did a great job last night sitting, staying, and laying down! Good girl! We have been also working on heeling and not pulling when we walk as she does still get very excited at times, and we are doing much better! Stormy is a smart little girl and I think she will do very well by the time we are done with our 8 week class. The more I get to know Stormy, the sweeter I think she is. She really loves to cuddle and has a very cute personality. She really is going to make a great companion for someone.

Stormy is also scheduled to be spayed next week, and we will keep everyone posted on her recovery!

March 30th, 2009 - Stormy is a very friendly, sweet Lab mix. We are estimating she is around 9 months old, so she is very energetic yet and would do best in an active household that can walk her or let her out to play daily. After playing outside or at the dog park, Stormy loves to cuddle by your feet with a chew toy or bone. She is both house trained and kennel trained, and we are working slowly on some commands. She has already picked up “Sit” and “Off” so I think she will do well as we progress with training. Stormy loves playing with the other two dogs in my home and is a little too interested in the cats right now. She is not aggressive with them; just wants to play but doesn’t seem to realize how much bigger she is. I think once she becomes used to cats and realizes they are not play things, she will be fine in a home with a cat.

These pictures do not do Stormy justice. She has a beautiful, shiny coat and a very sweet face.

July 24th - I picked Tango up last night. He was scared and very shy. He wouldn\'t walk on the leash. Once I picked him and carried him a little, he warmed up to me. I brought him home and he was still a bit nervous. However, he did not have an accident in the house. He did not like being closed up in his kennel last night, so I decided to close him off to the bathroom last night with his kennel door open and had a baby gate to keep him in there, but could still see everyone else and not feel locked up & all alone. Then he was quiet and slept the whole night. No accidents. He has done amazing with my daughters, ignores the cats, and loves to play with the dogs. NO aggressions at all. He loves attention and will sit next to me on the couch. He absolutely LOVEs having me rub behind his ears. He has totally come out of his shell in 1 night. Walks great on the leash and is now seeking out attention from me and my girls.

He will make a great family member once you give him the chance to warm up to you. He is a doll.

Theo is a 5 yr old American Bulldog mix.   He\'s a friendly guy who will gladly sit in your lap so you can scratch between his ears.  Theo enjoys the simple things in life, napping on the couch, chewing on bones, and rolling over to have his considerable belly rubbed.  Theo has been through so much in his life, he really appreciates peace and quiet.  Theo is OK with other dogs, but the dog park is too much commotion for him.  Theo likes kids... as long as they\'re on TV, the real things are just too spunky for his taste.

Theo is looking for an owner who likes long walks (Theo doesn\'t like them, but NEEDS them!), naps in the sun, giving belly rubs, and sharing that ham sandwich.   Theo would prefer a quiet home, one without cats and young kids.  Theo could live with another dog, but would rather be the only dog... he\'s been deprived of attention for much of his life and thinks it\'s high time he\'s the center of attention.  Theo is potty and crate trained.  He knows the commands \"sit\", \"down\" and \"stay\" and is looking for someone who can appreciate his quirky loveable personality.  Is it you???

Age: 2 years

Adoption Donation: $100plus $50 deposit to be refunded once proof of neuter is provided. Our adoption contract requires all dogs to be spayed/neutered within 1 month of adoption or when age appropriate.
Other:  Intact male, vaccinations current, diagnosed with heart murmur and receiving medications for this, blind in left eye.

Tobi is a sweet dog. He has had a tough life: He was born with a heart murmur and the Vet told previous owner that he would not live but couple months....he is now 2 yrs old. Our vet has checked him out and put him on medicine so heart does not have to work so hard. It seems to give him a little more spunk.

July 25th - Tobi has been doing really well with potty training. He wakes me up between 7 and 7:30 am with a paw on the cheek - Ha ha!  He likes to take one of his stuff animals outside with him, and usually brings it back in if you remind him to go grab it. He looks so cute with his pink Care bear...He is NOT afraid of pink...he knows he is a keeper. He just loves attention. Won\'t you adopt him and love him up? That is all he wants (besides soft food!).

May 30th - Tobi has been learning to play fetch with tennis ball and a Frisbee. He has really been enjoying fetch and will usually lay the ball down for you. Tobi also loves to run after his foster sis when she fetches the ball/Frisbee. Tobi loves attention and likes to be on my lap at times. He likes to give kisses. Tobi likes to snooze just barely under the covers when we nap and will cuddle up next to you.

February 24th - He likes to play with foster sister Daisy and will even initiate play with her. Tobi is starting to like to play tug and has fav. stuffed toy that he will carry around and chew on. He likes to be petted and will also go lay down when he needs to rest. He also lost sight in left eye due to another large dog not liking him, so when we pet or hold him we try to make sure that his good eye is not blocked otherwise he seems scared. He is a strong boy in spirit.

Tobi is working on potty training and kennel training, but does not care for kennel very well. Tobi would do best with another dog his size and due to his health, the adopter needs to understand that there is no guarantee on length of any dogs\' life and Tobi is no exception. He just needs someone to make his life full of love and care for his lifetime.

July 27th - Tyra is a very sweet, cuddly dog! She seems to equally love playing outside and going for walks as much as she loves curling up next to me on the couch with a bone or toy. She is a little shy with other dogs when she first meets them but once she warms up, she loves to play.

Tyra is definitely cat friendly. She currently lives with one foster brother and three cats, and she hasn\'t chased any of the cats or even expressed much interest in them other than trying to steal their food once in a while.

I do not kennel Tyra as she is so well behaved and is not a chewer even for being a younger Lab, but the few times I have kenneled her with a bone, she went right in with no issues. We are working on housetraining, and she is definitely making improvements. I don\'t think it will be much longer before she is 100% trained.

Tyra is going to make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a nice family pet and walking partner.

Foster Home Feedback

July 6th - Vixen has been in my home now a couple of weeks and has continued to grow on my heart. It has been such a joy to watch her personality unfold a little more each day! She has come such a long way since she first arrived here. Vixen was a sweetheart from the beginning, but she was shy and didn\'t show much interest in playing. Now she loves playing, whether it\'s fetch or playing with a stick. She seems to like to play whenever I\'m in a hurry to leave. She\'ll get in puppy stance with her front elbows on the ground, wag her tail and smile at you. Then, as soon as you go to get her she will run around and start the process all over again as I run around the yard trying to catch her! I swear I have provided my neighbors with comical entertainment!

Most of the time Vixen just likes to lounge around the house. She isn\'t a high energy dog, except for those random moments when she gets really playful for about 10 mins. and than she crashes. She is also the best roommate I\'ve ever had! So quiet! Every night I bring her bed into my room so we can sleep together. She curls up right away and doesn\'t make a sound. She is hilarious in the morning.... I would wake up in the morning during the week around 9.... I crawl to the end of my bed to look at her ... she is still sleeping! I literally have to shake her awake, than she lifts her head, looks at me and then throws her head back down as if to say...\"It\'s too early Mom!\" It is truly hilarious! So we gradually began sleeping in 9:30, 10, 11.... all the same thing, she never wanted to get up! She is truly a dog after my own heart!     :-D    So our schedule has been, bed at midnight and than whenever we wake up in the morning... usually 11. Even when we do get up and I let her out, she usually doesn\'t have to go to the bathroom. She also is a muncher on her food, so she usually won\'t eat right away either. When I first got Vixen it took her about 4 days to start eating, so don\'t be worried if you get her and she doesn\'t immediately start eating.

Speaking of her eating habits... she does this really funny thing before she eats. She will pick up some of the food in her mouth than drop it next to her bowl. Than use her nose to push all the dropped food up next to her bowl. I feed Vixen twice a day and she eats throughout the day and night whenever she is hungry.

Vixen has gotten over her fright of the cat. The two continue to get along, and I have seen no signs of violence out of Vixen towards the cat, they are both comfortable being around one another. I hardly use her kennel, I don\'t feel she needs it, as she has never had an accident in the house nor gotten  into any sort of trouble. However, when we do kennel her she usually does it just fine. Vixen also has no motivation to get on the couches... I think she is to lazy to jump on them! The only time I\'ve seen her jump is to get into the car for  rides! She loves looking/sticking her head out the windows!

I have also given Vixen a few baths during her time her. She just stands there and takes it. You can tell it isn\'t her favorite thing in the world, but I have no trouble giving her one on my own. After her baths she usually gets those burst of energy and will run around the yard as I follow behind trying to catch her with a towel.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Vixen should be the only dog in a house. She does not get along with other dogs no matter what the size whatsoever. On walks she will just show interest in other dogs usually whining when we walk by. If we see a dog coming, I will stop Vixen and get off the sidewalk until they pass. I have a chain fence in my yard  (about 3 and half feet ) so I usually will let Vixen out (she loves to sunbathe!) but I am always careful to listen to her bark. When she does I will immediately go outside. She will bark at any dog that walks by and if they are on our side of the sidewalk will also snap through the fence and growl. Vixen is extremely friendly to all humans! She loves to give kisses to the strangers walking by. So if you are considering adopting her you need to be aware of this and make sure you never leave Vixen unsupervised when dogs are around. She cannot go to the dog park.

Honestly Vixen is one of the sweetest, loving dogs I have fostered. She has such a calm personality and everyday I see a new side of her! She still needs some work on her commands but I feel this is something that she can overcome quickly. She has sit down to a science! Give Vixen a chance to warm your hearts as she was warmed mine! Once you meet her, you can\'t resist her love!

June 13th - I have had Vixen for a little while now and she has adjusted beautifully! She has a very mellow personality and is quite happy just lying around the house. Although she does enjoy her walks, we are working on her walking ability. She is by no means a rough walker but she just needs to work on her leash manners. She pees a ton on walks! She wants everyone to know her territory!  I brush Vixen twice a day and there seems to be no shortage of hair, although, it is the time of year where dogs shed and perhaps due to stress of a new environment.  I find it fairly easy to manage her hair around the house as long as I brush her daily.

Around our house she likes to be wherever I am. Vixen is housebroken and doesn’t even try to get on our sofas she is just content laying on my feet. She does well with her kennel, she never whines when being put in there; however it does take a little encouragement to get her to go in. Usually a doggie cookie will do the trick just fine. I have been letting her sleep on my bedroom floor with me at night; she is such a good roommate!  In the morning I am usually the one waking her up! Otherwise she would just sleep on my floor all day! We usually get up around nine to eat and go outside.

In addition we also have a male cat that Vixen gets along well with. At first she was scared of him, always taking the long way around to get to where she wanted to go. Occasionally she would get up the courage to try to sniff him. I like to compare our cat to a child going through their terrible twos, whenever Vixen did get the courage to sniff the cat, our cat would throw a temper tantrum making every sound in the book, paw at Vixen and then run away. Vixen would just look at me helpless with that face that says, “What did I do?” She does well with not chasing him. There was only one time where she slowly trotted after him still curious. But Vixen has shown no sign of aggression towards him.

Vixen does not do well however with other dogs. She will do fine on walks if we walk by a house with dogs outside. She usually will lightly pull but then keep on walking. However if she is out in our fenced in yard and a dog walks by she will bark at them and show aggression. Vixen will do best in a house where she is the only dog.

May 3rd Volunteer Feedback:  I had the pleasure of taking Miss Vixen to Adoption Days this past weekend.  She expecially liked meeting all the kids that wanted to pet her and loved all the treats she got for behaving so well.  Vixen is extremely affectionate and loves people.  If you\'re looking for the total package (smart, funny, attractive...) Vixen is it!

Watson was pulled from a local pound where his time was up.  He is a happy, friendly dog who likes to play with other dogs.

Foster Home Feedback

July 24th - Hi Everyone.   If you want a fun-loving happy dog who has great manners then Watson is the dog for you.  Watson has been with our family for a couple weeks and he is doing fabulously.  We have 2 dogs (1 big and 1 smaller), 1 cat and 3 kids.  He does great with all of them.  He is a bigger dog but he doesn\'t jump at all.  He stays off the furniture without needing to be told and he sleeps on the floor by our bed at night.  He does not need to be kenneled while he is home alone.  He does great when we leave him to roam while we are gone  (no accidents and no bad behaviors).

Watson is house broken and has had no accidents while he has been here.  He will let you know he needs to go out by running around by the door.  He is not a barker and behaves himself very well when new people come over. He is great with the kids and loves to catch ball.  He listens great and is very aware of what his people want.  He plays great with his foster brother and sister and basically leaves the cat alone.  When he does go up to the cat he just sniffs him and then wanders away.  Watson has the look of a Rottie but he acts like a Lab, he has the Lab smile on his face all the time!  Watson is an awesome companion!

June 21st - Watson plays fetch, very well and drops the ball for you to throw it again. He does very well with both small and large dogs. He is interested in the cats, but really too busy here to pay them much attention. He is not cage or food aggressive and loves to walk on the leash. He pulls a bit, but if you talk to him and let him know what you want him to do, he does listen well. He sits on command and pays very close attention to his handler……well accept when bunnies hop by.
