Bear is a very mellow, friendly and beautiful dog. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, has done well with kids, and is fully housetrained.

Bear is a little older and his hips bother him a bit but he still loves to go on walks.

Foster Home Feedback

July 6th - Bear has been getting regular exercise and has recently lost 3 pounds. He isn't too happy about sitting by the treat cupboard and being ignored! If we walk past him when he's sitting there, he will give a bark just in case we missed his 80 pounds sitting there!

He has been going to the lake with me and within 1/2 hour of getting there, he had made his way into the water and was very happily swimming around the lake. It's sometimes tough to keep him out since his retriever instincts are pulling at him. I think he may have been a hunting dog at one time since he very eagerly went after a stick I threw for him and have since bought him a training "toy" for him to retrieve from the water. He knows this is his since he carries it around but doesn't chew on it. He will not play fetch with a ball but loves to retrieve in the water. Bear does get tired and we need to make him rest otherwise he would swim to exhaustion.

The fireworks on the 4th of July left him unfazed. He slept by my chair outside - actually snored - while we let off the fireworks. This is also true for a thunderstorm. I have not found anything that scares or upsets him. He was also around a lot of activity with people of all ages and did just fine. Bear is such a happy-go-lucky dog!

May 10th - Bear is a wonderful dog. The time spent with him has really allowed his personality to shine through and he melts hearts of anyone who meets him. He loves attention but will also go and lie down when he is told. He gets along very well with any dog he meets and I have yet to see any aggression with him towards other animals, adults, or children. He currently shares a home with two other dogs.

When he sees his leash, he gets so excited because he knows this means a walk or a trip to the dog park. He is trying to shed a few pounds - like it or not!

Bear is currently being treated for Cushing's Disease and is responding very well to treatment. He also takes a daily pill for stiff joints and this has made a world of difference. He is full of energy but is also happy to lie on his orthopedic bed with the sun streaming through the windows on him.

He is such a wonderful and loveable dog! Bear desires to be in a forever home that would allow him exercise and activity but also allow him to be lazy and just get love and attention.

December 4th - Bear is a very loving, snuggly dog. He loves attention yet when you tell him it's enough, he will lie down and not be a bother. He is low energy but loves to play tug of war. So far, I have not seen an aggressive side to him with people or other dogs. When he has been at the dog park, he plays with other dogs but mostly just walks around and explores the area.

He does have one drawback - Bear is prone to ear infections. However, with frequent ear cleanings (which he loves) that is easily maintained and is a small inconvenience for all the love and joy that he provides!

October 19th - Bear is doing great. He is content to lie on the floor yet when another dog is around, he tries to play. We had an English Bulldog here for a couple of hours and they played outside for about 1/2 hour and he didn't show any aggression at all. He has also been around kids and is very gentle.

I do not kennel him at night and we have had no issues. He sleeps on his doggie bed on the floor beside my bed. Sometimes I hear him get up and get a drink of water but there have been no accidents and he does not chew on anything. When I leave the house, I will kennel him and he goes in without any problems.

He likes to chew on rawhide but has not chewed on anything that he shouldn't. He also loves dog treats!

Taking Bear for a walk is very easy since he does really well on a leash.

Basically, he just loves to be around people and will follow me from room to room. He does bark but only if it's to go in or outside or if he's very excited about something. He is very lovable and if you sit on the floor with him, he will nuzzle up against you or put his head in your lap. He's a wonderful, sweet dog.

September 19th - Bear is an old but gentle dog. He get's along wonderfully with other dogs. He loved the dog park, and all of the other dog's and dog owners there loved him. Since he's a bit older his hips bother him a little when he get's up and down but he loves going on walks and any attention at all. He's potty trained and hasn't had any accidents in the house. He doesn't bark when others come to the door. He had an ear infection when we got him so we put drops in his ears everyday and he sits nicely for them even though it's not his favorite thing. He's been good with my young niece and nephews. He does love food so there's no leaving anything out where he may get to it. He hasn't got into anything he shouldn't but I don't want to tempt him. The only time he has made any noise is when we kennel him up at night he will cry a little for about 3-5 minutes but then nothing the rest of the night and I usually have to wake him up in the morning. He's only been with us a couple of days so I'd say he's been a star performer up to this point. If your looking for a mellow, friendly, beautiful dog, Bear is the one for you!
