Dex is a sweet boy who is still all pup! He is looking for a family who can keep up with his energy, as, after all, he is a young lab mix. He walks nicely on a leash (a little pulling but for a young dog, not bad!) and knows "sit". He LOVES attention and cannot wait to be showered with love in his new forever home!!

Foster Home Feedback

6/17/12 Volunteer feedback: Dex is a total sweetie and he is doing well. At first we did have some issues with him pottying in his kennel but it was only in the morning when we got here so it was like he couldn't hold it for 8 hours during the night. But now that has completely stopped (fingers crossed). We haven't noticed any awful behavior towards him with his seperation issue, BUT he does play ALL day and is totally wiped at the end of the day and sleeps hard through the night. He is a very sweet boy though. He plays very well with all dogs in group. He knows how to sit and stay and wait for his meals and always seems like he is happy! All of us at the kennel, love him...he is one of the easiest foster dogs we have had.

October 30th: Dex here...Just wanted to remind you that I REALLY want to go home with you!
I am a good boy and I know that you will LOVE me! Give me a try! PLEASE?

October 6th: Dex is doing great, he really enjoys being outside every day.

July 31st: Hi Dex again. I just had to share what a great time I had today. My foster parents took me and my foster brother to the lake today. There were all kinds of new smells for me to explore. My foster grandma and grandpa were there too! I took a little swim. My foster mom and dad just had to go into the lake so I of course had to join them. I don't care much for the swimming. For some reason that water splashes me in the face everytime. We did go on this big blue thing.. My foster dad called it a "pontoon". I really enjoyed that. I could sit and feel the breeze on my face. I love to feel my ears flap in the wind!

After the ride my foster mom and dad went out on a Jetski. I just chilled with foster grandma and grandpa. My foster mom came back and was all happy I was fine while they were gone. Really, foster mom? Have you forgotten I don't like being by myself but I am just fine as long as I have company? Plus I love foster grandma and grandpa. They give me all kinds of attention. I think her memory is going.. I mean I am getting better at being by myself too. I go into the kennel when she puts me in there. I haven't damaged anything in my kennel. I don't get upset when I go in the kennel right away either. I mean honestly, fears just don't disappear foster mom. I am a very good boy. I can't wait to go back to the lake. I hope my forever home takes me places like my foster family.

July 10th: Hey, Dex dropping in to tell you a little about me. I am a sweet boy. I love to just lay around the house. I was described as high energy. My foster mommy doesn't think I am high energy. She thinks my anxiety was misinterpreted as high energy. I love to cuddle. I have finally convinced my foster parents to let me on the couch. I love to cuddle in their lap on the couch. I am happy to sleep on the floor next to the couch as well. My foster parents don't let me sleep on the bed with them but I did sneak up for a few minutes the other morning so I could cuddle with them.

I would be happy to be an only puppy or to have a brother. I get along great with my foster brother. He pesters me to play a lot. I am happy to play with him sometimes. Other times my foster parents tell him to leave me be because I just want to relax. They speak up for me, because I just let him pester me.

I still don't like to be left alone. My foster mommy says I am getting better. I don't happily go into the kennel but I have quit whining right away. I would much rather not be left alone but my foster mommy says she has faith I'll get use to it. She says I just need sometime and a little extra work to get over being left alone. She says I am such a great boy in every other way! I can't wait to find my forever home. I am ready to give them all my love and cuddles.

June 17th: Dex is settling in. He is such a good boy. He is friendly with everyone he meets. He has met other dogs and has done fine . He met Larry, the cat at Natural Pet Center and seemed interested but didn't do anything more than look at him. Dex is great in the car. He is nice and calm. He usually lays down and takes a nap.

Dex has met a few kids in our neighborhood. He has done very well. He is happy to be petted. He hasn't jumped on any kids. He hasn't jumped on anyone since we have had him. He will jump in-front of you for a treat or food but never puts a paw on you.

Dex still does not like being left alone. He does not do well out or kennelled. We have been kennelling him and his has some separation anxiety medicine to help. It will take sometime for him to get over being left alone. He has been getting a little better. He doesn't take as long to settle down once let out of the kennel. He had a few accidents in the kennel but it's been two weeks since he had an accident in the kennel.

Dex only had once accident outside of the kennel the first day we had him. Since then he has been just fine. He sleeps through the night and in the morning he'd rather have breakfast before he goes outside to do his business.

He is such a good boy and will be happy to be part of any family. His very happy to hang out around the house, go for walks, and put up with his foster brother's constant requests for play. He is a quiet dog. He rarely barks and is happy to spend the day sleeping while I work in my home office.

May 22nd: Dex is a very good boy. He enjoys playing with our other dog. He is an avid chewer. When we are around he doesn't chew on anything other than his toys. It is important Dex has plenty of toys to chew on. Dex comes when called. He knows sit. He also seems to know off. He has jumped on the couch and bed and all I have to say is off and he gets down. He is not food or toy possesive. I can feed him and our other dog at the same time and they each just eat their own food. We took Dex to Shaggy Dog's for a bath. He was very good. He did not whine or bark. He didn't have a problem with the dryer either. He does pull a little on walks but not bad. Dex does have energy but after some playtime and walks he is happy to lay down and chill.

Dex does seem to have separation anxiety. The first day he was with us he followed me everywhere around the house. The first time I used the bathroom he did sit outside the door and whine a little. The second day he didn't have an issue with that anymore. The first two days he wouldn't leave the deck when we let him outside unless someone went down with him. Now he is starting to go down by himself. He has done some destruction when left alone. We are trying to work with him to help him realize we will be back so he is ok. We have been letting him sleep in our bedroom on a dog bed on the floor next to our bed at night. He does just fine sleeping there.

April 25th Volunteer Feedback: Dex is a happy boy! He is a good sized dog, probably a little above average size for a lab. Dex has a lot of energy. He was excited to play with the dog toy I had for him. Dex sat for a treat, although he did want to jump up to get it. He seems very treat motivated though, so will probably do really well with some training. Dex will be a great companion for an active household!
