Gypsy is a beautiful girl with lots of love to give.  She is choosy about her doggy friends but loves attention from people.

Foster Home Feedback

1/25/13 Volunteer Feedback:  As a foster and also a early morning volunteer at the shelter I have to tell you about this beautiful dog.  Her soulful brown eyes looking into mine are breaking my heart...and I am so hoping someone reading this post will apply to be a foster and take her to a real home to wait for a permanent placement.  Gypsy is so polite...never barks for attention, just waits patiently for it to be her turn to get one on one attention from a volunteer to play and/or have a nice walk.  She walks politely and needs only a light correction if she gets too excited.  Even today when it was -17 she was up for a walk (she did have a coat on)...and she played and played with other volunteers in the outdoor exercise area too...joyous for the company and a couple of good tennis balls. Gypsy would love to have a forever home and be your very special girl!

12/31/12: Gypsy's prev. adopter is no longer able to care for her, so Gypsy needs to find a new home...

***

July 6th: I was wrong….and right. Gypsy is NOT an "American Pit-bull Terrier,” but mostly Rottweiler, some Boxer, and a wee bit American Staffordshire Terrier. This is certified and guaranteed, with the results being available online, as well as on a certificate that will come with her, should you adopt. I like this dog so much, I had a DNA test done on her.

All of the aforementioned is true. She is a very active, devoted, loving, and playful dog! There is not much she could not do. True to her heritage, she cannot help but be an extremely good watch/guard dog. She is learning the command “leave it,” however, and, living alone, I appreciate having her around, actually.

The more time I spend with her, the more I like her. She just lives to be with a master! She is always there, with that concerned look on her face, wondering what she can do to better bond with you.

She simply lives to please! Again….obedience school would be great for….YOU….to learn how to communicate with this girl. A better friend you shall not find.

June 13th: Gypsy could be the Dos Equis dog, the most interesting dog in the world! It took a while for her to come out of her shell, but I see now she was protecting a true original spirit! This dog has all the bases covered! She is very smart; very eager to please; learns very quickly; is very loving; is a great, if a little too enthusiastic, watch dog; loves people; gets along well with other dogs, after proper introduction; is always happy, with her tail wagging constantly, whacking on everything; is a great hunter, or could be with training….she has a fantastic nose; is a great runner….. just good at everything! Oh, and no food aggression with humans and very little with dogs, certainly within normal range. But, perhaps the most interesting thing about her is….she has NO odor. Really! She is very clean and does not leave your car or couch smelling like “dog.” I have never seen that before.

Add that to her stunning good looks and sense of humor and it’s really hard not to absolutely LOVE this girl! Definitely a keeper! I am working on her watch dog skills in that I don’t want her to be so enthusiastic about it when I’m home. But, with her deep bark, which she only uses when there’s someone around outside the house, I tell ya, your family is safe; nobody’s gonna try get in.

She loves to play and is very fun. She loves to play with my other dogs, most of the time, but there are times she just wants to play with me, be it a good wrestle, fetch, a tug of war; but especially walks and bike rides. She is good on the leash, wants to chase squirrels and such, but will obey the leash and commands. But her main thing is the bicycle…she loves that and has endurance to spare.

If you want a great dog who can do it all, Gypsy’s your girl! Better hurry though, I’m gonna have a hard time letting her go!

May 30th: Beautiful, independent, energetic, very smart, but, a little stubborn…..Gypsy reminds me of my mom. First off, I disagree that Gypsy is an “American Pit Bull Terrier.” In my opinion, she is a Rhodesian Ridgeback, or Ridgeback mix, without a distinct “ridge.” She has coarse textured hair on her back which almost forms the outline of a ridge, but no “ridge.” Ridgeback breeders cull these dogs as this is considered a flaw. Personally, I like them without the silly looking ridge.

Gypsy has all of the aforementioned qualities and more. When I visualize the ideal home for her it would be with active people who like to camp, and, especially, bicycle camp. Gypsy is a natural bicycle runner. She’s so good at it you can almost forget she’s there. I ride with her every day and we both love it; the more, the better, as it helps her burn off her deep well of energy! I would imagine she would be a good running partner as well but, I do not run! She also likes to fetch, play “tug of war, and spar with my bulldog, Bela.

She seems to be inclined to “herd.” Dogs, cars, and likely, small children….like a Border Collie. I am working her out of this and she gets along great with my two dogs, now that she learned they don’t need to be herded anywhere. I do not think she would be good with small kids as herding dogs nip while herding. The car thing will come with training.

She is a great watch dog and presumably, a good guard dog. She would benefit from an obedience school trained owner/leader as she needs the discipline and challenge. She is good in a crate; she whines a little but settles down easily. She will “snuggle” but seems to prefer her own space. I let her have the run of the house and have had no trouble, outside of an accident or two. When she has to “go,” she will nudge you and whine a little. Ignore her long enough and she will find a place to relieve herself. She makes it through the night just fine however.

Gypsy is a great dog for an active owner. She is more than ready to accompany and protect you wherever you go.

May 3rd: Gypsy is a fun-loving dog who is very eager to please. She is a medium energy dog, and loves getting out for walks. She's even gone rollerblading and does great! She has good leash manners and walks by my side with few reminders.

Gypsy LOVES chasing a squeaky tennis ball, she just does not always want to give it back and likes to be chased. She knows sit, down, shake and we are working on stay and drop. She learns quickly and enjoys the treats!

She is still picky about which dogs she likes and does not know how to properly greet other dogs, but with proper introduction and socialization she may do better with other dogs. She loves attention from people and beams with satisfaction when she gets praise or affection. Gypsy deserves a home willing to give her exercise, training and love. She would make a wonderful companion that is up for doing whatever you want to do!

July 25th - Gypsy is doing very well! She LOVES people, is the biggest cuddle bug ever, and will give kisses all day!! She doesn't have the best dog greeting habits, but I think it is lack of socialization. Once she was around our dogs for an hour, they have been playing non-stop ever since! We have been leaving her out when we leave the house, and she actually does much better being left out then kenneled. Nothing is destroyed and there are no accidents when we get back.

She needs some constant training. But she is picking up on "Sit" and "Down". She already knows Shake very well! She has also picked up "Sit Pretty" and "High Five". She does well with treat motivation, and I think would do well in training classes. She needs some leash manners, but she isn't too bad, just needs some correcting.

I haven't had her around kids, but I think she would be just fine. I've pet her roughly and even laid my head on her and she did just fine with it, as long as your are touching her she is happy!

She is just looking for a family to give lots of kisses to and cuddle with in bed!

July 19th - Gypsy just came into the house tonight. It was a rough start with my female pittie and Gypsy, but we are finally all getting along and laying on the couch hanging out. Gypsy loves to play with my male pit and was playing like a puppy while we were outside. We have had no accidents yet, although she seems to whine just a little bit while she is kenneled, that could be the problem when she is in a house she doesn't know though. She is a big sweetheart and loves to cuddle up in your lap and be pet. Gypsy is just looking for someone to spend some time with her and show her how to be a real dog! I will continue to write more as I get to know this sweetie.
