Foster Home Feedback

2/10/13: As I sit here on this snow day staring at my beautiful foster boy, I try to figure out why no one has snatched him up! He's completely house trained, and never had an accident with us, gets along with our dog and both our cats, is THE best cuddler I have ever known, and every one that meets him falls in love. My Mom and sister both come over to get kisses and cuddles from him when they've had a bad day. He is the perfect antidepressant. Johnny needs a patient, stern family who will appreciate everything he has to offer. This dog has a lot of love to give!!

12/12/12:  I just wanted to clarify my last update. When I stated Johnny was "special" it was by no means stating there was something wrong with him. I just wanted people to understand he really is very special to us. He is our first foster and he stole our hearts!! Johnny has been bounced around and abandoned too many times in his short life. He is an incredibly smart dog and aims to please. He does, however; need time to settle in to new surroundings. He needs to make sure he isn't going to be left again. That this is going to be his forever home. So please don't misread my previous post. If you are looking for a smart, loyal, goofy, cuddlebug of a dog Johnny is no doubt your man!!

12/5/12:  It's been 4 months now that Johnny has been with us. Johnny is such a special dog. I cannot express how much we love him. Johnny takes his time before he will trust you. It took him two months before we were able to have company walk through the door without issue. Now when people come over he is all butt wiggles! It also took him a couples months to learn that the kitties would rather cuddle than play :) Now they snooze on the couch together. Johnny is amazing with our dog, but much like learning to trust people, he can also be sensitive with dogs. We've discovered that Johnny does not do well at the dog park but can play well with other dogs in a yard. The dog park is too stimulating and it's better if he's not put in that situation. Johnny and Maverick (our dog) play amazing together! It could go on for hours and hours if we let it! All in all, if you're willing to give Johnny time, he will give you an endless amount of love.

9/7/12: John Boy has been with us for a little over a month now. It seems like so much longer! He fits so well into our house hold! Johnny is learning new things every day with us. We are working on some small things with him, such as him thinking he’s the main man in the house!  ;) He is learning that he needs to give to receive. Johnny has to sit before he is fed, let out, let in, or invited onto our bed. I had stated before that he was sleeping with us. After being kept up many a night by his wild dreams, he now sleeps in a kennel. He does really well in there at night, but still hates to be kenneled during the day so he is still just left in our bedroom. Johnny has also showed us more of his escape tricks. Chain link fences do not slow him down and he WILL find a way out. I would highly recommend a wooden fence or something besides chain link. All in all, Johnny is still a great dog who will need someone to keep him in line and to snuggle with! This boy has had a rough life and deserves a place to relax and be happy for the rest of his days!

8/6/12:  We’ve been fostering Johnny for just over a week, and I can really only think of one word to describe him – LOVE! This dog LOVES to cuddle! Johnny insists on sleeping between my boyfriend and I during the night. As Johnny does not do well in kennels, we have left him in our bedroom with Nylabones and have never had any issues with him chewing anything he shouldn’t. This dog would be content with whatever your doing whether it being playing outside, or having a lazy day in bed. He really just wants to be with you. Johnny does amazing with our dog and has been with our cats as well. He seems very interested in them, and has to be reminded that they don’t want to play. J My boyfriend needed some convincing in fostering a dog he thought we would have long term, but has fallen for him fast! Johnny is such a love bug it doesn’t take much, and his charm will have you sucked in as well!

4-15-2012  Volunteer Feedback:  Sadly, Johnny Cakes has been returned to rescue due to a change in his adoptive family.  Cakes is still sweet, still goofy, and still looking for a home.  Yesterday, he was very happy to see me (I'm still "The Lady" to him :) but he was very confused as to why I had to leave him at the kennel.  I will continue to try to wear down my husband to see if I can foster him again, but for some reason, he thinks 5 dogs is enough.  Personally, I don't get it. Johnny is good with cats.  Good with kids.  Good with other dogs (he shared a home with Chance... also re-available for adoption).  Still not so good with kennels... but housebroken and not destructive as long as things are picked up and out of his way.  Don't expect him to ignore a stinky shoe... he's well behaved, but not crazy! Johnny's got a goofy smile, winning personality, and not one, but TWO adorable wonky ears-- the total package!  Please consider adopting or fostering (and then putting on a diet...someone eats their feelings) this wonderful wonderful boy.

6-26-2011 Temporary Foster Home Feedback:  Hello!  My name is Johnny... at least I think it is. The lady keeps calling me Bananas, Johnny Cakes, Nanners, Cakes, Whosaprettypeebo, and all sorts of things.  I figure, whenever she talks in my direction, I just go over to her and see what she wants.  Even if she's not talking to me, she sometimes has goodies in her pockets and she likes to share with me.
When I first got here I was kind of scared.  This is a busy place!  There are 4 other dogs and the lady and the man also have 2 kids.  It's been a few days now and I am used to all the hustle and bustle and am much more confident about all the noises in the house. Those kids have friends that come in and out of the house all day long.  It drives the lady crazy and she yells "Shut the door!" about 600 times a day. She needs to quit worrying about teaching me tricks and work on training those kids, I think.
I am the best dog with all the kids and I am the only one allowed to be out when the kids are jumping on the trampoline and running in the yard because I don't get in the way, the other dogs like to be right in the middle of the action and get run over alot :).  I just lay in the porch, or sometimes I also like to roll around in the grass.  The kids like to pet me because I don't jump on them or lick them.  I follow the boys everywhere they go. There are several reasons for this, the most important being that they always pet me and they drop food ALL THE TIME!  Another reason the lady needs to quit worrying about teaching me to roll over and work on teaching her kids to hang onto their watermelon.
I'm glad I'm writing all this down for her.
The lady and the man spent a long time when I first moved in putting together a massive kennel for me. They put carpet underneath it and soft blankets down inside of it.  They bought me a juicy bone and put other toys in there too.  Then they put me in there and they left me!  How DARE they?!?!  I'm embarrassed to say it, but I cried.  They lady felt bad (sucker!) and let me sleep on her bedroom floor on a nice bed. When she had to go to work the next day, she put me back in the kennel and left. And didn't come back.
I was most displeased so I opened the door and went up to the lady's room and slept on her bed.  She was quite surprised to find me there when she came home (and one of the other dogs passed out in my kennel), but then she said I was a good boy because I didn't make any messes or chew anything up.  I'm not a puppy lady!  I do have manners!  Sheesh!  I don't have to go in the kennel anymore, I get to sleep on the bed or the couch whenever the family leaves.  And I never make a mess or wreck anything. Hey-- I've got a good thing going on here and I don't want to mess it up!
I'm so glad 4 Luv Of Dog gave me a second chance to find my own home.  I hope I find my forever family soon, but in the meantime, I've got a LOT to teach this lady.  I'm waiting for you!

Sidenote from the lady :  Johnny is a wonderful young dog.  Easygoing, eager to please, and receptive to training, he is quite the catch.  Speaking of catch-- Johnny LOVES to play ball!  My husband wanted me to add that he thinks Johnny is almost perfect (this coming from a man who was not super excited about another foster, means a lot).

6-21-2011 Temporary Foster Home Feedback:  Johnny is a very sweet dog that gets along great with my 4 other dogs (one small and 3 his size).  He is very calm and can suit his play style to my larger dogs and my 25# dog.  There is not a mean bone in his body!  Johnny wants to be where his people are, but is not obnoxious, he simply follows you and lays down on whatever soft surface he can find in whatever room you're in.

This dog LOVES kids!  I have 2 boys, 6 and 8 years old.  Johnny likes my husband and I, but when he sees the kids you can tell how much he likes them, his eyes just light up and he turns into a puddle of butt-wiggles. He is very gentle and does not jump up on them, but follows them around and lays next to them.  He even got accidentally bonked in the head tonight by a toy and it didn't faze him one bit.  He's so laid back, I'm not even sure he noticed :)

Johnny is treat motivated and should be easy to train.  He already knows sit, down, and shake.  Johnny is not a HUGE fan of his kennel, he would rather be with us.  We have a large kennel set up for him and he is accepting of it.  Not thrilled, but accepting :)

All-in-all, Johnny Bananas is a keeper!  The family that makes him theirs will be very lucky!
