Allie had so much fun in the pool last night, hopped right in and laid down! I didn't have the camera then, so instead I caught her playing on the patio after her swim. She LOVES to be loved on! She is scared silly of the TV though. LOL.

Foster Home Feedback

8/17/12: Allie has been a real sweetheart!  We have had the opportunity to get some "off leash" time in the countryside and she LOVED it.  She listened very well and loved the water.  It was great to spread out on the blanket for a nap in the sun afterwards!

4/11/12: Allie is doing very well. She is apprehensive of things but does well once she has time to check it out a few times. She likes her crate and it makes her feel safe. She will go in there if things get too hectic. She has done well with all of the dogs here. She especially likes her foster sister Nixey! We are working on getting her used to cars so she doesn't bark at them. That is her reaction to something if she is unsure or else she will cower away from it. Seeing how far she has come assures us that she can adjust to anything. Because of her apprehension, I think that she would do better in a home with another dog to show her the ropes.

December 19th: Allie is a LOVE of a dog!!! She is supposed to be a Pit mix but so far, we only see Lab. She is a very curious girl. If you are eating or doing anything, she wants to be part of it. For instance, if we bring a plate of food and sit on the couch to eat, she wants to see what you have on your plate and have a nibble! But when she is told “no”, she listens incredibly well. We use “no” and a water bottle for discipline and that works wonderfully with her.

Allie is happy to sleep on our floor at night. She doesn’t come up on the bed unless we invite her. She cuddles up with one of her foster-siblings and sleeps.

Allie does have some fear issues – new noises or over-stimulation will cause her to growl, bark and raise her hackles. However, none of it is in an aggressive fashion. She is really just trying to make herself look tough. We’ve also figured out she is protective. Heather was watching TV and a feral dog was on the show that started to bark. She began to pace and bark and growl – she kept going to the door and back to her foster mom. Once she was told Heather was ok, she calmed down. She has a definite protective instinct.

She is not a chewer – we have Kongs and Nylabones around. She does not show them any interest. We put treats inside the Kongs and she was interested until she got all the treats out. Then she was done. We also have dental sticks we give the dogs. She does not know what to do with them. Part of that is having a life in a kennel – not being given the normal dog toys and treats. But she also does not seem to show an instinct to chew on things.

She lets you know when she has to go outside, which is amazing to us since she has spent the majority of her life in an environment that was not a home.

We took her for her first walk today. She had to be coupled with one of our other dogs. She has no leash manners but was willing to walk and keep up instead of being fearful. She did really well and we were so proud of her!

We have 2 cats that she sniffs and then pays no mind to. She is most happy to lay on the floor at your feet.

Allie gives very random, small kisses but is not much of a licker. We call her a hugger, not a kisser. She loves to give and get hugs but kisses are rare treats.

Allie will make a great family dog for a home with another dog. We see absolutely no issues with her in regards to cats, dogs, kids or otherwise. She just needs firm guidance to work her through things that scare her and then a lot of love when she’s calmed down. She craves that subtle guidance that reminds her how to be a balanced dog. She does amazing in a home environment.

August 16th: Allie is adjusting to life in a house so well. I have seen a big difference after just a little more than a week. She takes a lot of cues from the other dogs, and I think she would do great in a home where she has a dog buddy. Miss Allie is so sweet, she wants so much to be loved on - she is making up for all that she missed out on while she was in the shelter. She is so excited to see me when I get home and can hardly wait to get next to me. She is doing great with her foster siblings. She likes to wrestle and loves to play tug-of-war. Allie has not had a single potty accident in the house. She does well on walks with a dog buddy to give her a little confidence that all the new things she sees are no big deal. Allie is a gorgeous, sweet dog with so much love to give - she can't wait to find her very own family!

August 7th: Allie and her brother, Wyatt, along with four sisters, were dumped outside a regional shelter a couple months ago when they were about 5 months old. Poor Allie spent about two months living in the shelter, and has never had a home before. 4 Luv of Dog is helping her though, and she is now living with me and learning all about life in a house. You know how when you stay with a friend or at a hotel, it doesn't quite feel right because of all the noises that are different? That's how it is for Allie right now, but a lot of the noises of my house she has never heard before. The first time the icemaker in the fridge dropped ice cubes, she reacted. The second time a little less, and now after a couple days she doesn't notice it any more. Since the TV is both picture and sound, it is taking her a bit longer but she is getting much better. Occasionally when the scene changes and catches her eye, she will hop up and bark at it a little. Considering all the things that are new to her, I think she is doing great! Once she settles in a little more, we will work on some basic commands too.

Just like the noises, Allie is also getting used to sharing her living space with a person and other dogs. Although she had been around both before, she also spent a lot of time alone in her kennel. Allie LOVES to be with me, loves to have a person that is hers and she is eager to please. She is also having a lot of fun playing with her foster siblings. She is learning to react to their personalities and has pretty much figured out when to back off and which dogs like to play with her. She and her brother love to wrestle together and are good buddies. I filled the puppy pool one night and Allie just loved it! She hopped in and plopped her whole body down in to the water. After that, every time she was outside, she hopped in and at least got her feet wet. My guess is that Allie is part Lab, as her personality is very Lab-ish.

This poor pup spent two months 'in jail' for a crime she didn't commit. Please consider making her a part of your family so that she can settle in and get all the love and attention she missed out on - and deserves!
