Xena would love a permanent foster home.
After Xena arrived to NJ in mid October, we let her decompress in the kennel for a few days while we figured out her medical status and she could get used to being out of the rabbit cage. When she was spayed they found masses and removed some but not all so she would have to have more surgery. Extensive numerous masectomy's. We ultrasound her and found a spot on her liver. We believe it is cancerous but the only way to get to it essentially is to break a rib or do the surgery and hope we can reach it to biopsy her. You see, Xena is a big chested dog with a girlie girl waistline. We're pretty sure we don't want to put her through so much surgery if ultimately she will have better quality of life if we do nothing. She appears to be in no pain at all.
Xena went into foster in October and has been like a puppy in an 8 year old body. In fact she smacked into so many walls, I thought there was a vision problem. Nope, just clumsy. She never had to use any of her coordinates in her life. Not even her eyes. They just stared out of the rabbit cage for 8 years. She is starving for attention and food. She can't coordinate taking food from your hand either so be careful if you feed her by hand. She can be outside playing for an hour and come in and pee. So the key is bring her in, leash her up and she take two steps outside and pees! It will save cleanup if you help her monitor and regulate her pottie breaks. She doesn't know any better but does pretty good. She sleeps from 10 pm to 8 am without accident. In fact the other dogs go out and I get up and she just sleeps. Xena is a darlin, no one could not love her. She is friendly with every dog she has met and every person as well. She is a perfect rottie (a clumsy, perfect rottie) She can be fostered to the right home. We will manage her medical for you if you choose to give her the love she deserves as she journeys to the end of her life.
Please meet this very very special girl Xena. She is an eight year old rottweiler that was rescued by TLR in conjunction with another rescue when we went into a puppy mill to rescue many dogs. This was one of several large dogs also kept in horrific conditions. This particular dog, a purebred rottweiler, was kept in what amounts to a large rabbit cage for at least SIX STRAIGHT YEARS of her life, and was not even let out ONCE. Despite this deplorable treatment, she is loving and gentle and sweet! Absolutely unbelievable. She really really needs to be in a home 24/7 to acclimate to one slowly, and given systematically more and more space so that she feels comfortable and safe. It is disgusting what was done to her.. but you can make a difference in this beautiful dogs life. She still loves people, but after seeing what we saw.. it's hard for us sometimes to do the same : ( Please consider this amazing dog to become part of your family and give her the life she was meant to have, not one cooped up in 6 feet of her dried excrement with no love or attention or concern for her welfare.
