Foster Home Feedback

   *FOSTER HOME NEEDED

2/6/12: I took Pixie to my house about 4 weeks ago after her spay. I thought she would just stay for the weekend, recoup from her surgery and then she would have to go back to the boarding kennel. I was wrong! This dog is such a character, and she has settled in so well I'm even calling her my temporary foster! Pixie is now potty trained, knows her name, knows to sit when the leash goes on or when we go out the door. She has also learned sit and stay, and has had no issues learning the rules of the house, either. She is such a happy, goofy dog that she makes me laugh almost constantly.

Pixie is one of the least needy dogs I've met. She loves people, and her tail goes crazy if you just talk to her, but if you are busy, she is content to just hang out or nap. Pixie is extremely tolerant of people, she will allowed to be picked up, have her ears cleaned, or even sat on and she just wags her tail and looks for a face to lick! She has never chewed on anything she shouldn't or gotten into anything she shouldn't. Pixie enjoys riding in the car and is getting really good at it- she used to get very excited and bounce around but now she usually just sits and looks out the window. Pixie kennels really well and is usually very quiet in her kennel, unless she needs to go outside. Pixie LOVES to play fetch and even though she could do it all day, 20-30 minutes is plenty to tire her out. She also enjoys any kind of food puzzle game, and she has gotten very good at the ones I have.

After being here a few days it was obvious that Pixie didn't have all of her eyesight. She sometimes runs into things, or loses the ball when playing fetch. The vet diagnosed it as retinal degeneration, which is usually genetic in dogs and is a chronic condition. Pixie doesn't seem to notice at all, she just uses her nose to find things instead of her eyes. Pixie also likely has environmental allergies, which cause her to be a little itchy at times, but that doesn't seem to bother her much either.

All of the good things being said about little Pixie-stix, she does have a few issues. She is a little power-house of a dog and pulls a lot on the leash when she is excited. I am working on this with her and introducing her to new things slowly as new things are very exciting for her. Pixie will need some one who is willing to work with her manners with other dogs. She just doesn't know how to act around other dogs and her default is to get really excited and bark. She has gone on several walks with my dog and has done really, really well with him. She has stayed calm around my dog and just shows a curious interest in him, which I think is a really positive thing. I am going slow on introducing her to my dog so she does not get overwhelmed, but she has done very well so far. Pixie also seeks a home without cats.

Pixie is such a loving, happy dog that she deserves to go to the forever home that will provide lots of love and a little training. Please consider adding this lovely girl to your home!

November 30th: Pixie is a small pitbull mix who has a lot of go! She is currently staying in a boarding facility and is ready to get out and have fun when she can! Pixie is very good at playing fetch with a ball, she would probably do it all day if she could! She doesn't have the best leash manners yet; but with some regular exercise she should be easy to train. Pixie knows sit and shake; and she says she would be willing to learn more for free treats! Pixie is such a unique looking dog, it's fun to try to guess what she is mixed with. Pixie seems like a dog who hasn't experienced much in life; everything is new and exciting to her. Are you the one who can show her what being a spoiled, happy dog is all about?
