I do not ask for help unless we really need it.

We really need it.

Any time our farm staff gets very quiet on social media, you can bet there is something going on at the farm. Last weekend, we practically went dark and there were two very good reasons. There are two intestinal diseases that are nasty but treatable with prompt veterinarian care. One strikes the young and one hits adults.

Last weekend, we had one case -- of each.

Meet Nalan. Nalan is a female terrier mix about a year old who was turned in to a Georgia shelter by her family who could not care for her. Nalan came down with parvo virus on Friday. Despite being vaccinated, she started the vomiting and diarrhea that we know well. Nalan has been in our vet's care since Friday and tomorrow she can come home. The bill for saving her life will be approximately $ 500.

Parvo is highly contagious. To protect our adopters, we cancelled adoptions last weekend.

Meet Pepper - Pepper, a poodle mix, is one of our fabulous SOS dogs but last Saturday, right on the heels of Nalan's bloody diarrhea, Pepper came down with the same symptoms. Parvo rarely rarely affects vaccinated adults so it was a rush to the emergency clinic on Saturday to find out our girl had HGE - hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. It comes on suddenly, it can happen with no change in routine or food and like parvo, if not treated, it will kill. The bill for saving Pepper's life is $ 511.

Pepper and Nalan required hospitalization.

Ten more young dogs lived with Nalan and were directly exposed to parvo. All are vaccinated, but so was Nalan. We're pretty tense. We are on high parvo watch and parvo protocols now.

While we'll do some adoptions this weekend, we're still not completely up to speed as those 10 exposed dogs will be on lock down until next week to be absolutely sure they will not become ill.

Adoptions are a critical part of our income. Missing a week or two really hurts!

Here are the faces of our infected dogs. So far, all are doing well.

At CPR, we believe that if many people help a little, together we can do a lot.

Our request is simple. If we can reach 300 people who will donate $ 12 each, $ 1 for each of the dogs affected by parvo and HGE, we will be able to pay the bills for the sick dogs and hold our own during our quarantine.

$ 12 - The price of two subs and a drink. The price of two happy meals. The price of movie and popcorn at a matinee. $ 12 to make sure 12 dogs make it to the big time -- a home of their own.

To donate, please visit our webpage at

http://carolinapoodlerescue.org/giving.html

or text parvo to keyword 91999 for our easy cell phone donation form (your mobile phone bill is not charged)

or visit our online form at https://app.mobilecause.com/f/ty5/n

Our donor count will be on our Facebook page and on our home page. Please check in to see how we're doing and please share. The more people we can reach, the better chances of meeting our goal. Monies raised in excess are used for our general fund.

Thank you. Together we save lives.
