When he first arrived at his foster home, Sky hid under the bed and would hiss if approached. He gradually became accepting of his foster mother’s presence.  He will now eat treats out of her hand and permits a bit of petting while eating a special treat that he really wants (he loves wet food and fresh cooked chicken!).  When finished eating, he moves away.

He is very wary of new situations and people.  If his foster mother sits down, he may come over to sniff for a treat or lie down just a short distance away, but he does not want to be touched.  If foster mom walks towards him, he will move away, but if she stands still, he will sometimes come up to her. At his foster home, he is able to leave his room for a period of time each day and go into the hallway where a screen separates him from the resident cat. He likes to observe the activity of his foster mom and the resident cat. He likes when his foster mom comes to his side of the screen and throws paper balls into the air, so he can chase them.  After playing, he will lie down or roll on the carpet.  He also loves the laser toy and catnip toys. He enjoys sitting in front of a window and watching the activity outside. He looks at his foster mother and meows quietly when he wants food.

Sky might possibly get along with a mellow cat after proper introductions. There are 2 male foster kittens living in the home and they touch noses with Sky through the screen. Sky watches the female resident cat and occasionally pounces towards her just a little when she walks past (they are separated by a screen), but he doesn’t growl or hiss. Foster mom thinks Sky pounces because the resident cat has swatted, hissed, and has generally been unwelcoming towards him.

Sky responds to patience and food. Early on, we thought he would have to be a barn cat due to his fear, but he has made some progress at his foster home. He seems to enjoy the indoor life and likes to lounge close to the screen where he can view the activity. He might make further progress, if he were able to move more freely in the house and be more a part of the daily activity (not possible at his foster home, due to resident cat).  He would need a quiet home and a cat-savvy person who would be very patient with him.

He has excellent litter box manners.
