My name is Erin, and I’m a spayed female short-haired brown and black tabby with tuxedo markings and a very distinctive mask of white on my nose.

My mom and dad were foster volunteers with the Montgomery County Humane Society.  Over nearly two decades they helped to find forever homes for dozens of cats, dogs, rabbits, and even chinchillas!  Some of us managed to convince Mom and Dad that we should become a permanent part of their home; and while the foster organizers may have categorized us as ‘foster fails’, I say we just proved to be too irresistible.

In my years with Mom and Dad I have lived with many other cats, dogs, and rabbits.  I have lived in a big house that had an animal-friendly fenced backyard way up on a hill in a quiet neighborhood.  I am somewhat independent when it comes to other cats – though I’m nice and good natured, I do like my space and my time for attention from my parents. I get along fine with dogs, even the big chow mix that shares the house with me and two other cats now.

I’m definitely a ‘people cat’ – if you’re around I’ll do my best to get your attention to pet me.  I’ll roll around and generally act cute to make sure you notice me – and if you don’t I’ve been known to reach out and lightly grab you with my paw (“hey, not so fast”).  Sometimes when you’re petting me I do sort of return the favor with light play biting – never hard enough to hurt you, but if you’re not a cat person and/or used to this sort of thing it might surprise you.  Sorry, but I guess I just can’t contain my enthusiasm sometimes.  Of course, I would want my new parents to understand this about me and be OK with it.

I don’t have much experience around children, but I do try hard to make friends with every adult I meet – I’m pretty sociable. I don’t snuggle per se but love contact.  I have a slight purr but it’s there and you’ll hear it, trust me!

I am strictly an indoor cat – even though my folks generously offer me opportunities to venture outside in a safe, fenced in backyard, I make no effort to go out (it’s still a little too scary out there for me, and I’ve got everything I need indoors, especially if you’re around).

Here’s the sad part of my story: Mom passed away suddenly in early 2015, and Dad in July of this year.  I really like being around people and so it’s lonely now without them.  I am looking for a new forever home where I can explore my indoor environment and be as friendly and affectionate with my new parents as I have been with Mom and Dad.

Physically I am very sound – all vet records including shots are up to date, and I am not on any medicines currently.  I eat store brand dry food along with store brand moist food (to sweeten the deal) daily; nothing fancy but suits me fine.

If you can see me becoming a part of your home, I would love to meet you! Thank you so much for considering allowing me to become part of your life.
