Children in the home must be at least 6 years old.
Previous dog experience is required, preferably large breed.
Female Great Pyrenees rarely cohabitate with other females successfully. Our goal is for each adoption to be a permanent placement, therefore homes that already have a female dog are not eligible to adopt a female Pyr.

This pretty girl is Jael (pronounced 'Yael'), a super sweet friendly girl who absolutely loves belly rubs! She gets along great with other dogs so she would love a dog friend to play with. Jael has a very sad story...she was living in a 10 x 10 filthy enclosure for 2 years with a sheep. Both animals were severely neglected and often went without food and water and were out in all kinds of weather, freezing in the winter and at the verge of heat stroke in this summer. Luckily for Jael, the enclosure she was in got ripped apart during a storm and she was able to make her great escape. A kind neighbor who had been checking on her was able to catch her and get her to Animal Control. The owners never reclaimed her and sadly they ate the sheep who was her only friend. We are very happy to have this lovely girl safe in rescue now. Jael is used to living outdoors as she has not known any better, so she would need a home where she has a well-fenced yard to play and run around in. Jael is currently in boarding and we would love to get her up to a foster or furever home. She is young and healthy and ready for the next chapter in her life to begin! She deserves so much better than she has known so far. Thankfully, she adores humans and wants to be your new best friend. Jael is fine on leash and on car rides. She will need to learn more about how to live indoors, but she is great in a crate and very neat in her kennel. Please consider making Jael a part of your family!

About Us: National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes so we know how they will interact with your family. Please consider adopting or fostering. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. Prior to adoption, NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks (usually more), spayed or neutered and fully vetted. Dogs coming from out of area are certified with a USDA health certificate before going to their new homes. Our rescuers adhere to the highest placement standards and will take back any dog whose adoption does not succeed. Visit www.nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed.
