This pretty pup was found chasing cars in the county, most likely looking for the people who abandoned her. Thankfully, she was taken in by a very kind woman who reached out to Worthy Dog for help, and kept Roxie safe and cared for until a foster home was available.

Roxie has been in her foster home a week now and is gaining more confidence every day. She’s being fostered with another dog, Hazel, and really follows her lead and learns from her. A family with a confident, social pup would be an ideal fit for Roxie, but she would be OK as an only dog if her owner has time to work with her. Roxie is nervous of new sounds and places. At this point, we don’t think city life or a busy apartment/condo setting would be a good fit for her. She does bark when she hears cars or people outside, and has a loud protective tone.

Roxie really enjoys the company of other dogs, and has become best friends with Hazel. They love to run and play together in the yard, or snuggle up and share a bed. She has a moderate energy level, but she’s still pretty fearful and requires a lot of encouragement and patience from her handler. The more comfortable she gets, the more playful and active she becomes.

Because of her fear of loud noises, cars, or anything unknown, leash walking has been a little challenging. She walks great on the leash in the back yard, and will potty on the leash with no problem. Getting her to walk on leash on the sidewalk takes patience, but once she gets moving she does great. She will pull when other dogs pass by and barks in excitement, she also pulls for birds, squirrels, and rabbits. Leash walking is brand new to her, and her foster parents are taking her out every day so she gets more familiar before she makes the trip to N. VA.

Roxie is a very friendly dog, and is not shy with people. Her foster mom describes her as “very snuggly, loves to snuggle up with us on the couch. She LOVES to receive verbal, touch, or treat praise.” She is crate trained, and actually loves the crate because she feels safe there. She initially wanted to hide under the bed, but they don’t let her. She gets an A+ for potty training, and will even whine at the door to let you know she has to go out. There have been no accidents since she has been in her foster home.

    FOSTER UPDATE - 10/1/18

Roxie is a great pup and is coming out of her shell little by little each day.  I think a family that already has a calm, social dog would be great for her. She would also do fine as a single dog IF the owner has the time and patience to work with her.  I worked with her one on one for about a week before she came home with me, but she progressed more in three days with Hazel than she did during the one on one settings with me.  Hazel is definitely helping her learn to be more confident but she is still pretty nervous of new sounds and places.  I don’t think apartment or condo living would be right for her at this time due to the all the noise and traffic.

Things are looking up for Miss Roxie as she settles in and gets more exposure to the world around her. She will be coming to N. VA in mid Oct More pics and updates to follow.
