Meet Banjo. This handsome pup was abandoned in the neighborhood of one of our volunteers who promptly took him in and kept him until a foster home could be found. He stayed with her for a week, living with 3 other dogs, a cat, and her 7-year-old son. He was good with her dogs and was very warm and affectionate with her son. He was a little iffy with the cats, but has probably never been exposed to them.

Banjo is super sweet boy who is very friendly and responsive to his environment. He was so excited to meet people when we first rescued him, and he could be jumpy, but was more reserved meeting new people at the vet. He’s experienced a lot of change in the past 2 weeks, and has maintained a sweet good nature throughout.

He’s house trained, crate trained, has great leash manners, and is an ideal pup playmate. He’s active when he wants to play with his dog buddies in the yard, but will also lay down and chill out inside. He rides well in a car and likes to play with toys. He’s the perfect age and size too - old enough to be out of adolescence, but still has an active and playful spirit.

Banjo goes into his new foster home on 9/12 and we look forward to learning more about him...

    FOSTER UPDATE – 9/18

Banjo is currently being fostered as an only dog, and gets daily leash walks for exercise. Banjo seems to like everybody, but I have not seen him around young kids yet, but my guess is he would be good with them. He has a medium energy level, and  likes to play, but can entertain himself with toys. He sleeps late in the morning and is ready for bed around 8:30 or so. He’s not a shy dog, loves to snuggle and almost never barks. He is crate trained and goes in by himself at night, and sleeps well. He would fit well in most any home – as a single person’s companion or a family dog. He is very patient and quiet.

Banjo gets more comfortable on leash with every outing. His exposure has been limited thus far because of the rain and hurricane conditions in SC. Tonight was clear, and on the walk they ran into a neighbor with 2 babies in a stroller, Banjo did not any pay attention. They heard a dog barking and Banjo looked, but went on his way. They also ran into a neighbor with her dog getting the mail. The dog barked at Banjo, and he didn't respond. He's also been to the vet on leash around other dogs and was calm...so he's not had a lot of practice, but we are feeling good about his leash skills.

You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes.
