Meet Keena!
update: 09/28/22
kennaa urinalysis came back normal
hee chest X-rays normal
her blood pressure pretty normal
her blood work shoes early stages of renal failure so we are waiting to hear from vet if she will need medications, or fluids under her skin once in a while or perhaps only special Rx food like wet food to keep her kidneys nice and hydrated.
You'd never know her kidney values were a little elevated because she loved life and is happy and p it going with no mobility issues and can jump and go up and down stairs without a problem. She also enjoys plush toys, some zoomies and play with doggie friends although she's a nap expert and is content in her bed next to a human.
her dental is scheduled for early October :)
Keena is an adorable small/medium terrier/beagle/boxer mix who is full grown at 30 pounds and is approx. 10 years old.
Keena is FKA as 'ita' and was adopted from ARWOB when she was just 2 months old back in 2012 by a young couple. They contacted us in August with the need to rehome sweet Keena because they are new parents and now that their daughter was learning to walk Keena was not handling their daughter well and was scared/shivered around her and like many children in the toddle stages want to explore and investigate everything which made it hard for the parents to make sure they supervised their interactions. They also mentioned they were unfortunately unable to provide her the attention she needed and deserved. We know it sounds unfortunate they couldn't make it work for Keena to be able to stay with her family after 10 long years of her being the only 'baby' in the home. We do appreciate they made the effort to contact us FIRST and NOT drop her off at a local shelter or rehomed her to just anyone or worse abandoning her in the back yard or other situations. Her family loved her and made sure to take her to safety by driving from Texas to San Diego during labor day weekend AND accepted to sponsor Keena having a much-needed dental which helped the group not end in red numbers and asking others to help donate to get her medical situated. That is more than many have offered when relinquishing their family pets and we appreciate the effort to make sure we can help her in her journey to find a second and LAST family who will enjoy these last years of her life as a new companion to them.
