Meet Ernie! He is an 11 pound, 2 to 4 year old, male, Jack Russell Terrier and Chihuahua mix (probably). When Ernie was rescued he had a broken leg, so he has been recovering in a Yolo SPCA foster home. Now Ernie is healed, feeling good, and ready to find his forever home. Take a look at this short video of Ernie when he was first rescued: https://youtu.be/Wet_aA3khOw. What a cutie! Ernie is very friendly. He loves cuddling and sitting on laps! Usually Ernie is quiet and gentle – shy at first and then he warms up. He loves to play with small stuffed toys. Ernie has been recovering and on crate rest for a month so his interactions with others have been limited.  We don’t know how Ernie is with cats or children. Ernie is treat-motivated and he seems smart, so it should be easy to train him. At a Yolo SPCA event where there were lots of people and dogs coming and going, Ernie was happy to quietly greet everyone. But in other circumstances he has growled at people and dogs. He walks pretty well on a leash, but he does seem to be leash reactive – when he is on a leash he barks at dogs he sees (we can help you with training resources to manage leash reactivity). Ernie rides well in a car. He cries a little when left alone, but he settles down quickly and is not destructive. Ernie does want to rush out a door when the door is opened, so that is something to be careful about. Ernie is healthy again and ready to blossom in a forever home. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Ernie is a very sweet, very loveable little dog.
