Hi All! My name is Birdie! I'm a Rottie mix girl. I'm on the petite side weighing in around 55lbs.  I came from a shelter in Virginia where I was brought as a young puppy with my sister, who was adopted last year.

Why don't I have a forever home yet you may ask. Well, I'm special. Not special needs though. I'll try to explain here. If I don't do a good job of explaining I'm sure my foster mom will be happy to talk to you further about everything that makes me special and what that means for you as my potential forever person.

    So here's my story:
Shortly after we were dropped at the pound the people with SSRR rescued us. After arriving at our first foster home our foster mom realized we were very sick. Luckily, she got us right to a vet and we recovered completely and in time to make our way to our permanent foster home in Georgia a couple weeks later.

We set right out to playing with our new foster family and being typical puppies in our new foster home.  Foster mom realized soon after arrival that I got winded a bit quicker than other dogs and that I made a loud snorting like noise when I played hard. It didn't bother me though. I would rest when I needed and then get right back into the games my foster brothers and sisters liked to play.

Eventually though, foster mom became really worried about the noises I make. I tried to show her all was good, but she insisted I go for car rides to meet lots of other people who fawned all over me, took my blood, listened to me breath, checked me all out and of course gave me head rubs and fed me treats and were just really awesome. We took a couple of car rides to see those nice people who recommended I take a longer car ride to meet some other people who might have an idea why I made special noises because honestly, I was perfect otherwise.

I got to ride down to Atlanta to see a specialist, a Birdie specialist, just for me! The specialist did a procedure called an endoscopy and found out that my epiglottis is a bit weak.....it doesn't open as much as it should when I run around and play like I like to and that's why I make a noise a little different from everyone else. It doesn't stop me from being the fun loving, happy go lucky me that I am though. I just need to take a break from playing too hard sometimes and when it's really hot outside, I just can't be out in the heat for very long. As I've gotten older, I've learned to not let it slow me down even more.

The only thing it really keeps me from doing is being that dog who goes out for hikes or runs with their people. But ya know what, I'm content just playing in the backyard with my brothers and sisters and sometimes in the house with the kitties and the little kids. I enjoy a good chew bone, but sometimes I'll bring back my mischievous puppy side and sneak off with a shoe or stuffed animal. I don't chew on them though, I just like everyone to chase me. Honestly, I'm really cute when I do it. My foster family even tells me they can't be mad about it because I'm so darn cute thinking I'm getting away with some big prize as if they aren't going to catch me. Tee Hee Hee! Little do they know, I just love the attention.

I looooooooove people! I  Love kids! I love cats! I love other dogs! I'm truly a perfect pup....just a bit more special because I make weird noises and take breaks a bit more than some dogs.

I'm a super normal, happy puppy otherwise. The best thing about when I get tired is that I get to snuggle. I love to snuggle almost as much as I love to play. I'm telling you, I'm really the perfect pup.

A bit more about me.....I know basic commands....sit, shake, stay. I like short walks on the beach or anywhere really. I'm house trained and crate trained too and even know how to use a doggie door. Those are awesome....I can just steal those toys or shoes and run outside whenever I want to be chased and be told I'm funny and cute.

If you'd like more information about me or to meet me sometime, please fill out an adoption application and one of the adoption coordinators will get in touch with you and hopefully we'll get a chance to meet soon!
