Hi, my name is Lightning. I am a one-year-old, purebred border collie looking for steady employment. I would love to go to a sport or ranch home where my workaholism can shine! I am high drive, high energy, passionate, athletic, and biddable. My favorite workout is practicing my disc skills at the park where passerbys are stunned by my jaw-dropping catching skills. I also love to herd. In fact, I have been instinct tested on sheep and my instructor said that I have all the right aptitude to be an excellent farm dog. I have also dabbled in agility. I am quick and fast over hurdles and through tunnels, but still unsure of teeter totters. Agility, herding, disc, flyball, rally-o, dockdiving, etc. As long as you are willing to train me, I can do it all. If you are competitive, I can definitely win us some titles. When I am not working, I like to stay active. My favorite activities include long off-leash hikes and playing fetch. I am still learning to walk on leash and get very, very excited by cars. I am getting better at ignoring them but it may take me some time so maybe we can enjoy some low to no traffic areas or some off-leash trails and paths in the meantime? What can I say, I am young and have a herding dog brain. Oh yeah, and fetch. My absolute favorite activity in the entire world. If somebody bought me an automated ball thrower thrower, I would die of happiness. I also really love to get head and chest rubs. I will sit there for hours soliciting pets. I have been working on some basic doggy skills to transition to my new home. I am completely house trained and “go potty” on command. I know a repertoire of basic obedience commands like sit, down, stay, come, drop it, leave it, off, etc. and a bunch of tricks like spin, shake, high five, bow, over, jump into arms, etc. I have also finally learned to settle and will go to my bed on command which comes in handy when I get too hyper. And I sleep through the night on my dog bed without disturbing you. I don't like sharing food with other dogs but am fine as long as fed separately. Otherwise, I am very dog and people friendly. I also like to dig but will respond to correction since people don't like that. But if you leave me unattended in the yard with nothing to do, all bets are off. I am a quirky guy but super sweet. If you like my resume and decide to employ me, I promise to work really hard. I am looking for a new gig ASAP, so if you have job for me, just call! Love, Lightning P.S. Lightning must go to a home with demonstrated breed experience and are committed to giving him the necessary enrichment and training to thrive. If you are looking for a family pet dog, Lightning is NOT for you. If you're looking for a working dog to dedicate your time, life, and soul to, Lightning needs you!
