    A Little Bit About Me

This handsome fellow is Dexter. You'll want to go slowly with him... he's stressed from being in the big, loud shelter and is worried about people reaching for him. He really wants to go to a quiet, adult-only home with people who have experience with shy dogs, a home that doesn't have a lot of people coming and going as he gets worried about strangers in his home. He was recently returned to us because he wasn't able to settle into his previous home, which had too much activity for his taste. His person was devastated to bring him back, but wanted to do what was best for Dexter. She wrote a long letter about what he's good at and what he needs work on... ask at the adoption desk to read these very helpful notes.

Dexter is social with dogs but he has leash frustration, meaning that when he sees another dog, he will bark and lunge because he wants to get to them. It's not polite behavior so you'll want to work on this with him. Fortunately, Dexter loves treats so it should be fairly straightforward to teach him to look at you instead of other dogs. He might like to go home with another dog, provided an appropriate match is made. Dexter chases cats, however, so if you have a feline in your home, we suggest you look for a different dog to adopt... your cat will thank you.
