Addy is one of the happiest dogs we know and a testament to the canine ability to forgive and forget. We may never know where this girl came from originally but her humans certainly failed this sweet sweet girl. Found in the bitter cold of February on a gravel road not frequently traveled by many, her body was struggling to survive in this harsh winter. Addy was starving, dehydrated, covered in open painful sores and the pads on her front feet were raw from frost bite. Addy appeared to be an old dog barely hanging on but living a rough life will do that to the best of us because she is actually only about 3 years old. Addy was appreciative of all the love, kindness, gentle touches and food right from the beginning. We would like to say that it was all our doing that brought Addy to where she is now but truth be told it was probably the constant companionship of our shelter dog Hank that really helped Addy heal and feel young again!  She and Hank hit it off right away. While Addy would rest her weary body in a kennel Hank was ever present right by her side. As Addy felt better and more steady on her feet we would let her out to walk about and Hank would be by her side gently. Then as Addy felt more spry and energetic she and Hank would play rough and tumble in the halls at the shelter quite often Addy being the one to ‘win’ their wrestling matches (although we think Hank let her to make her feel good!). Volunteers would often find Hank and Addy passed out sleeping on the floor after an invigorating game of tug both still needing to be in contact with each other touching paws. Addy is now ready to find her forever home!  She’s looking for a home that has enough love to make up for lost time. One that she never has to worry about being left out in the cold starving and alone. She absolutely loves everyone!  She’s a big girl with an exuberant personality and we expect her to fill out even more so little kids that can get knocked down easily might be a challenge for her although she’s also as gentle as can be. She gets along fine with the cats and kittens at the shelter and no visitor is a stranger!  Big or little she loves all the dogs she’s met too. We have evaluated her in different settings and have determined that she would greatly prefer a home in which she had another dog friend that also liked to play in the rough and rowdy style.  She is currently in a foster home with another young dog and is deliriously happy to play hard, nap and repeat!  We very much want to give her a home in which she has a buddy to play with.  Addy would love a spot on the couch and a big soft bed of her own to stretch out on too. This girl is a gem and will make a wonderful best friend with her big smile and bright eyes!  Addy is fully vetted, spayed and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $215.00 and to submit an application please go to our website at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org to fill out the Dog Adoption Application
