Meet Jelli. This beautiful, sweet girl appears to be a pug mix, with long legs. She weighs about 7 pounds. We think she is 1-2 years old. Jelli is a joy - funny and fun. Yolo SPCA rescued Jelli from a shelter where she was really frightened. Jelli is still quite shy. You can see Jelli wants to be with people and play, but it takes her time to trust. She is very hesitant to approach people for petting, but she will come up to accept treats from an outstretched hand. She is comfortable being petted if she is on your lap or she is being held, but she is still nervous about someone reaching out to pet her. She needs an understanding home with people who can be patient with her shyness.  While she is shy with people, she loves dogs. Her ideal home will have another gently playful dog her size. We think the company of another dog will also help Jelli with socialization and confidence building. We have not seen Jelli with cats, but because of her size and gentle demeanor, she could be fine with cats after a careful introduction and initial supervision. Jelli is very playful and gets really excited about her squeaky toys. And, she loves to play hide and seek. Jelli dances for attention whenever there is human food around, and when she is greeting her foster family. She is pretty calm and quiet most of the time, happy to snuggle under blankets on the couch. We do not recommend that Jelli be in a house with small children because of her shyness and fear issues, and because of some heel nipping, play biting, and guarding her spot on the couch. Jelli really responds to praise, and she is very motivated by treats, so she should do well with training. She is making great progress on her potty training. She knows to go potty when she goes outside, but she will also still eliminate on pee pads inside her pen. She is just learning how to walk on leash. She is a little skittish, but she is doing well. Jelli is nervous riding in the car on a lap, but does fine traveling in a crate. She hasn’t had any car sickness. Jelli is mostly quiet, but she does bark when the other dogs in her foster home bark. Jelli is generally timid, gentle, and submissive. She gets excited when playing and can be a little mouthy and rough, sometimes play biting. She has nippied at the heels of her foster family while walking-trying to get their attention. Occasionally she has growled when her foster mom picks her up from her cozy spot on the couch, but Jelli is easily distracted by treats. In some ways Jelli is an easy dog. She is comfortable on a bed or couch, or in a crate or pen. She is comfortable being touched on her paws and ears – as long as the movements aren’t sudden. And she sleeps through the night with no problem. Jelli hasn’t done any destructive chewing. She hasn’t done any digging. And, she hasn’t done any resource guarding of her food or toys. Jelli needs lots of love and patience. For Jelli, the world has been a scary place. She is timid, nervous and skittish when she encounters loud noises and new things. Helping a fearful dog really just involves patience, love, and training to help the dog develop positive associations with the scary thing, usually with treats and lots of praise. It takes time but is not difficult. We have training resources to help. If you think Jelli would be a great companion in your home, please fill out an online application at https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/. Thank you.

For the fastest response, please submit an Application so we can help you with a good dog match. Thanks for considering giving a rescue dog a second chance at happiness in a loving home. If a dog is still posted on our website – the dog is still available for adoption. See more information about our adoption process and fees at  http://yolospca.org/adopt/adopting-from-ycspca/ . All our dogs are in foster homes (an advantage to adopters because we know the dogs). We do not have a shelter to visit. Because of coronavirus health advisories, our adoption events on Saturdays at Petco are on hold. But, if you submit an application we will arrange for you to meet dogs you are interested in that would be a good match. Our goal is to make the best match possible for the dog and for the human/s. Having our dogs live in foster homes gives us the opportunity to learn about each dog's personality and behavior. We give you as much information as we have about each dog based on our observations or information we’ve received. We rarely know with certainty the breed or age of our rescue dogs. If you are interested in any of our dogs, please fill out an application at  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/ . Use just one application for any/all of our dogs you are interested in, or instead of the name of one dog, put multiple names or “not sure” on the application. Information on your application helps us know your situation so we can work with you to make a great dog-human match. Our dogs are not adopted on a first-come-first served basis. We are trying to make the best match possible. Yolo SPCA dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, heart worm tested, current on vaccinations, and are being treated with heartworm prevention and flea prevention. Adoption fees for dogs more than one year old is $150, and for puppies under one year old is $200.00. If you have questions, please e-mail ( dogs@yolospca.org ), and we will do our best to answer your email within 24 to 48 business hours. Donating to, or shopping at our SPCA Thrift Store supports our rescue efforts ( http://yolospca.org/about-our-thrift-store/ ). Yolo County SPCA is always looking for foster homes, volunteers ( http://yolospca.org/volunteer/ ), and donations ( http://yolospca.org/donate/ ). Thank you.
