Like the beautiful stone, Onyx has a beauty that black cat lovers can appreciate.  Her fur is shiny black. So black that she is a blue/black that is not as common in the cat world.  But that's not the thing that makes this girl so special.  Onyx was part of a colony of cats that we have done TNR in for years.  She always evaded the traps and subsequently had many many litters of kittens.  Season after season we wanted to help Onyx and help stop the cycle of her having kittens outside but to no avail.  Then one day the colony care taker called and said that Onyx was just laying out on the front lawn very pregnant and seemingly not afraid of being petted and handled so she popped her in a kennel and we picked her up.  After realizing that she was indeed very very pregnant we decided to put her in foster and hope for the best!  Surprisingly, she seemed very content although still nervous.  She had her kittens and all was good.  Her foster mom said that Onyx was really becoming a sweet cat and she had high hopes that one day she would be able to accept pets and affection from everyone.  Well Onyx now resides in the Pink room at the shelter and she not only has become affectionate but she has filled out to be a chubby little shiny black ball of cat.  Onyx is one of the directors favorites.  Perhaps because of the victory in getting her out of the reproductive cycle or perhaps because now Onyx doesn't have to live on the streets or maybe its because Onyx seems to show how appreciative she is with her gentle head butts and the look in her sweet soft eyes.  Either way we couldn't be happier for Onyx oh wait....yes we could actually!  We would love for her to have a home with a cat savvy person who appreciates the true beauty of a coal black kitty!  Could that be you?  Could you be the person and home that Onyx has longed for all these years?  If so go take a look at the adoption application.  We just know this girl has even more capacity for love and appreciation for the kindness of humans.
