    This beautiful girl is Honey!

As her name suggests, she’s the sweetest thing ever! Honey is a happy, energetic three-legged charmer who looks to be a dachshund/beagle mix. We believe she’s 1-2 years old and weighs about 12 lbs.

Honey came to us from the Stockton Animal Shelter with the lower part of her left front leg missing, so the remainder of that injured leg was amputated. She recovered quickly and zooms around her foster home’s yard with the rest of her doggie roommates enthusiastically! Honey says: “Three legs? Four legs? Who cares?!”

Honey is a very special girl who needs a special forever home that can be patient with her and help her overcome her fears. We are looking for a family that has experience with fearful dogs and has some dog buddies for Honey to help her build confidence. She is a sweet spirit and is VERY loving and affectionate, but is also VERY shy. We think she may be feral, or maybe lived in a barn or other place where she didn’t get much human attention. She’s very hesitant to come in the house, but once she comes in, will sit wagging her tail and enthusiastically licking her foster mom’s hands and face just inside the door.

When it’s time to eat, if the door is left open for a couple of minutes, she’ll run into her crate to be fed. Once she eats, she’ll whine to get out of the crate. Honey is very gentle and LOVES to be petted, but will be wiggly and nervous while that’s happening.

Honey prefers to sleep outside in a doghouse on the covered patio with her doggie roomies and will howl if she’s in a crate overnight. She likes to cuddle on her foster mom’s lap, but shakes the whole time, although this is getting better. Since Honey doesn’t spend a lot of time inside we’re not sure whether she’s house-trained or not. Since there aren’t any in her foster home, we don’t know how she is with cats. Honey needs an adult-only home.

Will you help this sweet little girl overcome her fears? Honey has lots of love to give, but just needs some time and patience in a welcoming forever home to help her come out of her shell!

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm and started on preventatives, and are given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
