Chanel is a young 1-2 year old gal who was found as a pregnant stray. She gave birth in the shelter a few days later. Can you imagine being in a loud, small kennel trying to care for your newborn litter? Bless her heart how she rallied to make the best of things, but between overcrowding and understaffing, the situation in there was dire; with very little attention, any number of her pups could've perished. She was a magnificent dog with a pleading look in her eyes, and we couldn't let a stereotypical fate happen, so we whisked mom and her precious little souls to a foster home where they could be safe and thrive. Chanel did a great job raising her joyful bunch and now it’s time for her to find her forever home where she can be doted on and cherished for the icon she is.

    From her foster family:

From the outset, Chanel was gentle and kind, allowing us to touch her babies and trusting that we were there to help her. She was thankful to be out of the shelter and after ensuring her babies were safe, allowed herself to settle in. We couldn't imagine all that she'd been through, but she transitioned like a champ.

This gal is the real deal – easy to have around, mild-mannered, housetrained, sleeps through the night, rides well in the car, and considerately co-exists with our “I-don’t-play-with-dogs” senior dog.

The day’s routine consists of waking up about 7am and heading outside. We play and then have breakfast. Because she was nursing a young litter, the days were primarily spent at home, in and out of the yard (Chanel has 24/7 indoor/outdoor access). She enjoys her time outside, and will come find you in the house and lay next to you. She keeps tabs on what the family and her pups are doing. At night, she sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom. We have dogs visit, and she enjoys playing with them (it's fun to see her playful side shine through after all her hard work). Adventure outings would be of interest, or she's fine with walks and yard playtime. Can't stress enough how well she matches the energy of any given moment.

To match her winning personality, this mixed-breed gal has a naturally gorgeous brindle coat that her namesake is in awe of, and weighs in at 40 lbs. With long legs and a slender profile, she might have some whippet genes. She is full-grown.

Chanel is extremely bright and picks up training and cues easily. She learned her name in one day and seems to understand the general rambling when I tell her what we're up to that day, in a way that I haven’t seen with another dog before. She’s intuitive. She knows to stay when I tell her, like when I'm backing the car out of the driveway. Chanel has a mature personality; more serious than cutesy (though she's appreciates her fluffy flower collar bows :). Don't confuse maturity with not having energy - she is charmingly playful with us.

Chanel waits patiently when we're preparing her food and doesn’t beg. She’s curious and observant, with nice manners. Chanel takes treats with a soft mouth.  She enjoys people with polite introductions, takes an extra moment to warm up to males, and has met a variety of personalities between the family, friends, kids, contractors, and teachers who come by. We had a 45-person dinner party and she plopped herself down in the center and enjoyed a toy. She is left to freely roam the house with indoor/outdoor access, even when we're not at home, and is always respectful. Chanel appreciates considerate folks and would enjoy being someone's long-term companion.

Chanel's been offered the full range of toys and there doesn't seem to be a single favorite yet (though the soft squeekers are a frequent hit :). This might be her first time having toys. She is very appreciative of all the love, dog beds, hugs and time spent with her. It breaks my heart thinking about what her life might’ve been like before. But we've assured her, her future is bright!

Chanel has really blossomed in her time with us, and her adopters will be blessed with her even-keelness. You can see her gentle soul as you gaze into her eyes. We’re excited for her to explore all the goodness that life has to offer. She is incredibly deserving and has left an imprint on our hearts.

Chanel would enjoy a kind, friendly dog sibling, or could be a solo (no cats, please). Adopters should have had a dog in the last five years.  Kids in the home should be over the age of 6, with manners.

When you adopt from DPS Rescue, you get a foster write-up from people who have lived with and cared for the dog you're adding to your family. We get to know their personalities, and can provide you with their routines, habits and insights into their nature. You'll start off on the right foot (er, paw) from day one! You're helping clear the shelters because DPS pulls great dogs from overcrowded shelters and gives them time to decompress at home and let their personalities shine through. We socialize, vaccinate, spay/neuter, feed and care for our foster dogs all along the way of getting to know them so that you can read in-depth profiles and make an informed decision. It's a lot of hard work - but worth it! Thanks for adopting from DPS and supporting the efforts of dogs finding their forever homes.
