Sport is a handsome boy who is looking for a new home. He looks a lot like a Yorkie mix, possibly with Maltese, given where he came from. He had to be shaved down due to having lots of matted hair, but it's all grown back! He came from Louisiana and is now in a loving NJ foster home.

Sport and several other Yorkies, Malteses, and mixes were dumped at a shelter when their breeder shut down. Our partner rescue in Louisiana stepped in to help save these pups!

Sport is a bit shy but he is doing really well.  He is great with the other dogs in his foster home, and tends to follow their lead in terms of going outside and back in, etc. Sport would do best in a home with other dogs that can show him how to be a "real" dog. He loves to play with other dogs, and enjoys tearing around the yard with them. Sport has vacationed with cats and is very comfortable with them. Sport has met children in his foster home, and he is starting to seek out pets from the kids. He does like to snuggle and to be held, and he is especially cuddly in bed! Sport has started greeting visitors - he's been gaining confidence.

Sport doing very well with his housetraining skills, but he does need a home where people are around during the day who can watch him and keep him on a good schedule.  He is very unhappy in a pen or crate.  He is great about pottying when brought outside (but he does want you to stay out there with him!)

Sport seems to have a barrier anxiety that we're trying to understand.  We don't know what his previous life was like, but he is frantic when behind a barrier (even if we're with him). He gets very anxious and usually potties (in fear?) if in that situation. He's doing great with a makeshift doggie door and is completely housetrained now that he has it.  He is fine left alone, uncrated/unpenned, with the other dogs in his foster home, even for hours.  He shows no anxiety in that situation.

Sport is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and has tested negative for heartworm disease. His adoption fee is $450.

Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training   prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.
