ABBOTT NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Come meet Abbott and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (05/11) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Kensington, MD (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!
Name: Abbott Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix
Best Guess for Age: 6 years 8 months as of Apr 2025 Gender: Male
Approximate Weight: 17.7 lbs
Gets Along With: Abbott does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog because he is shy. We haven’t seen Abbott with cats or kids but we would be happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters.
Currently Living At: DC area foster home.
Abbott is Looking For:
Abbott is a 6-year-old dog with a gentle soul. This handsome boy might start off a little shy, but once he gets to know you, his heart opens up like a beautiful flower. With a bit of patience and love, Abbott will bloom into the loyal and loving companion you’ve been dreaming of.
Because of his quiet nature, Abbott would thrive in a calm and understanding home where he can take his time to feel safe and secure. He’s the kind of dog who will appreciate a cozy corner to relax in and a kind hand to remind him he’s truly loved.
What My Foster Says About Me: Abbott is a very sweet little man he will have no trouble forming a bond with his future family! He loves scratchies on his ears and neck more than anything else in the world. He can sit and stay on cue and come when called reliably in the house. He is a GREAT walker - he hardly ever pulls!
Heartworm Information: Abbott is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
Abbott has completed the treatment and exercise restriction phase, and is awaiting the 6-month follow up test.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
