SANDY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Come meet Sandy and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (05/11) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Kensington, MD (5154 Nicholson Ln, Kensington, MD 20895)!
Name: Sandy Best Guess for Breed: Lab/Yellow Lab
Best Guess for Age: 4 1/2 years as of Feb 2024 Gender: Female
Approximate Weight: 56 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs; We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!
Currently Living At: DC area foster home
Special Adoption Considerations: Sandy was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Sandy is Looking For: Although I’m way past my crazy puppy stage, I’d love to be join an active family that will provide me with plenty of exercise and playtime! I would love to go on long walks and hikes, and take trips to the dog park so can socialize with my canine friends. And of course, upon returning home, I’ll shower my new forever family with plenty of cuddles and kisses! I’m also looking forward to attending obedience school to hone my doggie manners and impress my new family.
What My Foster Says About Me: She is a big sweetheart and is generally very chill and sleeps most of the day. Loves cuddles, being petted, and napping in whatever room you’re in. She is good at leash-walking and although she's past her puppy energy state, appreciates a regular exercise routine. She has done very well with house training, no accidents so far. She’s also been fantastic with other dogs, people, and children that she encounters.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
