FRITO LAY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Frito Lay Best Guess for Breed: Chocolate Lab/Retriever Mix
Best Guess for Age: 2.5 years as of May 2025 Gender: Male
Approximate Weight: 67 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We have also tested Frito Lay with some of the cats at the shelter and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Frito Lay could live with cats, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss strategies to introduce a new pup to your pack! We haven't seen him with kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!
Currently Living At: Shelter. Frito Lay needs a foster or forever home!
Special Adoption Considerations: Frito Lay is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.
We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!
Frito Lay is Looking For: A family to call his own! Frito Lay is longing for a cozy couch to snuggle on, romps in the park, and quality time with his humans. He is a big ol' sweetie that just wants to feel safe and loved for all his days. At 2.5 years old, he is out of the puppy stage but still has plenty of energy for adventures with his favorite people! He would love to learn about how to be the best doggie citizen and can't wait to show off his skills in obedience training. What do you say? If Frito Lay the guy for you?
What My Foster Says About Me: We'll update this when Frito Lay has spent time in a foster home.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
