is an incredibly precious 5yo purebred Border Collie who came to us FERAL, extremely undersocialized and very shut down. It took him 4 weeks to feel safe enough to come out of hiding in his crate when we first got him 3 years ago. The best way to describe him was like a feral cat. He’s very distrustful of strangers. Over the years with his person, he has learned to come, sit, down, enjoys car rides, is great on the leash and learning to walk on the street, and loves to go on hikes and the beach (but needs to be kept away from strangers), is completely crate-trained and housebroken. He’s learning to play with toys, other dogs, and even with his person. He does have herding instinct and will herd cats, chickens, and has been introduced to sheep. He has such an innocent and sweet disposition. He would do best with a single woman, or must go to a home with a woman as primary caretaker (and then husband must be a gentle, soft-spoken man, experienced with shy and fearful dogs (NO KIDS!!!!!)). He would also do better in a household with another more confident dog that he can lean on for support and learn from. He just needs a quiet home with no visitors, best in the country, with someone who will be very patient, only purely loving, and offer him the time and space that he needs, to continue to help guide him to be a more confident dog. Once given the time, he is the most loyal and sweet, snuggly companion. He is a low energy border collie and prefers to spend his days lounging on the couch.
Skip has been in rescue since 3/2012.
