Ruby, a 2-year-old 12-lb. Rat Terrier mix, is a sweet and loving dog. She likes to play with toys and run around outdoors in a fenced backyard with an occasional time-out for sunbathing. You couldn't exactly call Ruby happy-go-lucky, though. She's extremely cautious and slow to warm up to new people, but if you're patient and give her time to get to know you, you'll be richly rewarded. Once she trusts you, she'll love you to the core and want nothing more than to please you. You will also have gained a very loyal bed partner since Ruby especially enjoys sleeping with her people (under the covers, of course). Ruby gets along with the other dogs and cats in her foster home, and in fact, having an easy-going dog in the home might help her feel more confident. Any children would need to be old enough to be understanding and empathetic because a child who would run up to her or chase her would cause her to run and hide. Ruby is house-trained and leash trained. The adopter who gives Ruby patience and a supportive, nurturing environment will find that she's truly a gem!
