Enthusiastic is the best word to describe Brooks, a 2- to 3-year-old Rat Terrier mix of about 18 lbs. This energetic fellow is always happy running around, but he's also quite satisfied curling up with someone and just being a companion. A favorite pastime is snuggling under a warm blanket in bed with his people. Brooks gets along with other dogs, but usually he doesn't play with them and would prefer to play with his toys, either by himself or with the special people in his life. He'd be comfortable in a home as an only dog as long as he had someone to play with and to shower him with plenty of love. About those toys...Brooks is probably most enthusiastic about them. He loves to charge across the yard and fetch toys, but he doesn't like to give them up to just anybody. He has to be really comfortable with you first. His foster parents are working with him to play nice and drop his toys for someone to pick up and throw for him to fetch. Nevertheless he can still be a bit possessive of his beloved toys and, as a result, should not go to a home with young children. Brooks is house-trained and sometimes will go to the door to show you he wants to go outside. However, when he first arrived in his foster home, he staked out some territory by marking a few spots. Intelligent and trainable, Brooks has learned some commands and tricks. He'll usually spin or walk on his hind legs for snacks. He also walks quite well on a leash and loves to take long walks. So you think that Brooks sounds like a great little dog who'd be fun to have in your life? Well, we enthusiastically agree!
