Captain is an energetic 5-year-old, 24 lb. Rat Terrier who really enjoys spending time outdoors with his humans. Whether it’s boating, hiking, a trip to the park, or just hanging in the backyard hunting lizards while you weed the garden, Captain is up for it! Indoors he is well-mannered and affectionate. He appreciates being able to share the couch and is accustomed to sleeping under the covers in bed with his people. He doesn’t really like to be alone, but does OK if confined to a restricted area when no one is home. Captain is house-trained and knows how to use a dog door. He is respectful of the cat he currently lives with, mostly ignoring her, but sometimes they sleep together. He rides well in the car and enjoys going to the dog park. He gets along with the other dogs there when he is free to roam off leash, but on leash he can react defensively to both dogs and human strangers. Cap is a rather timid fellow and can frighten easily. He barks, and when he feels really threatened, he will growl to signal he is uncomfortable. He would do best in a home without kids, especially those younger than school age, who might not understand or heed his warnings, or older kids who have lots of friends coming and going as that would be very stressful for him. Captain would love to find a home with an active person or couple who shares his love of the outdoors, enjoys lots of one-on-one time, and who would protect him from any scary people out there. Does that sound like you? You can see more photos of Captain at http://ImageEvent.com/newrattitude/captain .
