Pearl is exactly that--a pearl. Like the oyster which uses an irritating grain of sand to create an exquisite gem, so has Pearl taken her uncomfortable background (coming from a backyard breeder) to turn herself into an affectionate, beautiful girl. Pearl can be shy and nervous at first, but once she decides she likes you, she may cherish your attention to the point of being a little protective. For that reason and also because loud noises can frighten her, she would do best in a home where any children are old enough to be gentle and respectful or where she could be your only "baby." Pearl is fine with the cat in her foster home and would be OK with a kitty sibling in her new home. She's just starting to investigate what play is all about--both with toys and with other dogs--but she would really prefer being an only pup. After all, it's her turn to shine because at 6 years old, this gorgeous Rat Terrier is just learning how wonderful being spoiled is. And what fun you'll have spoiling her since her weight of just 11 lbs. makes her easy to hold in your arms or on your lap. Pearl appears to be completely house-trained, having had no accidents in her foster home, but she will need a fenced yard because leash walking is something that she goes to great lengths to avoid. She is also crate trained and will use her crate as her go-to place for security and for when you're unavailable. With just a bit of polish from someone like you, calm, quiet Pearl is going to be the most precious gem you've ever seen.
