Nirvana is a go-with-the-flow gal, whose great house manners and easygoing demeanor make her a terrific canine companion. She doesn't demand attention, though she appreciates it when you give it to her. At 8 years old, she is normally pretty low energy, but she will follow you around the house as you go about your routine, trot to greet you at the door when you get home from your excursions, and gladly accompany you on short walks around the neighborhood. Nirvana is a little stout at about 13 1/2 lbs., but she has been on a diet since coming to foster care in early January and is making progress on getting down to a healthier weight of 12 lbs. or so. Although she is very quiet in both the house and yard, very rarely barking or whining, she does tend to have rather snuffly breathing (which her vet finds irrelevant) and will often gently snore when sleeping. Nirvana was recently diagnosed with Cushing's disease and has started on medication (one capsule per day), and thankfully she is now almost completely symptom free. Since Cushing's can cause increased frequency of urination, however, we do ensure that she goes outside every 3 or 4 hours, and with that schedule, her house-training has been excellent. Nirvana gets along wonderfully with the other dogs in her foster home, mostly ignoring them or tolerating them but not playing with them. She is often a little standoffish on first meeting new people--not unfriendly, just really not all that interested. But if you are the one who feeds her or if you give wonderful neck rubs, then you are worthy of her gentle affection and devotion!
