When you see Cammy moving about in her environment, you'd never guess that she has some sight impairment. You might also be surprised to hear that this pretty 13-lb. Rat Terrier is 10 years old, but those of us who know Ratties aren't surprised one bit! While many other breeds are considered seniors at 10, Rat Terriers are just officially middle aged, and Cammy will certainly have no trouble keeping up with you. This gal likes to be with people. She'll enjoy taking walks on leash with you and going out for a spin in the car. In her very undemanding way, she's basically going to want to follow you around everywhere and make sure you're OK, but she isn't a clingy dog who invades your personal space. She takes just a little bit of lovin'; then she's content to curl up and snooze. She doesn't like being picked up, but she's perfectly capable of jumping into the car, on the bed, or wherever you may be. Cammy's visual impairment means she needs slower introductions to other dogs. In her foster home, she has met LOTS of new dogs. Sometimes she gets startled and will bark and squeal. Cammy is very interested in meeting new dogs and sometimes gets overexcited. Helping her with these introductions allows her to form sound canine relationships. She has even taken to playing with one of her foster brothers now that she is comfortable with him and trusts him not to harm her. She doesn't seem to care about cats. She has met children and enjoyed being petted by them, as long as they were quiet and let her come to them, so occasional visits from dog-savvy children would not be an issue. Cammy does not have many teeth left as she came to rescue with severe dental disease, but she does just fine and doesn't need a special diet. She's house-trained and knows how to use a dog door.
