Moon Pie has been in a foster home so he could be evaluated better to find just the right fit for him. Here is what his foster mom has to say about him:
Loving Introvert seeks same
Moon Pie is a sweet, loving boy, but he is picky about his friends. It takes him awhile to open up to new people. He's not overly shy or aggressive towards strangers, he's mostly indifferent. He will not approach strangers , usually he will keep his distance or just walk past, but if they try to grab him, he might snap. Once he has someone to love he doesn't really feel he needs anyone else. He is not an affection loving Golden retriever, he will not go up to random people for affection. Once he trusts you MoonPie lives for the belly rub!
While he's extremely loving, he does not need to be touching you at all times, velcroed to your side. He is content to lay on a dog bed or on the other end of the couch. You never will be alone again. He will accompany you to every room, yes every room, he even wants to be in the bathroom with you. He is a playful boy and loves his stuffed squeaky toys, and for some strange reason, he likes plastic bottle caps. He is house trained, and loves car rides. Moon is not a fan of big dogs. He loves to play with dogs his own size, but will pick fights with big dogs. You will have to watch doors and gates, if Moon thinks you are leaving without him, he will try to dart through and run, and coming back when called is not a priority.
Original Profile: Moon Pie was a stray/lost dog so we don't have a background or history. We don't know if he lived with other pets, or children, or if he was housetrained. Moon Pie was a little nervous being handled when he was at animal control, but he seems more relaxed now that he is in rescue. He is a cute little guy who wants a family to love again. Moon Pie does have some stranger danger and takes time to warm up to new people. He is happiest with the people he knows. He is looking for a home with adults only, or older children, where there isn't a lot of new people coming or going. He will not do will in an apartment or condo where he would be expected in see new people all the time. He can also be reactive to other dogs, so may prefer to be the only dog or have a slow introduction to other dogs.
We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home. If you are interested in any of our dogs, please fill out the pre-adoption application and we will set up a time for you to come and meet them.
To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you will also receive an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training for $50 (up to $200 value). You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, Small Dogs Big Hearts, or Shy & Reactive Dog Class. You must start the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee. All dogs are seen BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Many are in various foster homes getting extra one on one attention getting them ready for their new homes. The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application. Bichon and Little Buddies is run by volunteers who have full time jobs in addition to the hours they spend with the rescue dogs. Having an application on file assures us that the potential adopter is really interested in adopting a dog. It also assists us in placing dogs in homes where both the dog and new owners are happy. The application puts you under no obligation to adopt a dog from Bichon and Little Buddies.
The Dog Pre-Adoption Application can be found at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog
