Rose (aka “Rosie”) is a 1-year-old bunny who was a 2020 Easter bunny. She and her sister, Marigold, were kept in small cages in their family’s backyard and were often neglected. They would escape to find food and water. Rabbit Advocates volunteers recaptured them from a blackberry briar patch where they were living, after their owners released them into RA’s care.

These sisters are closely bonded. Though given a flower name to match her sister, Rosie would be better named “Roxy” because of her spunky, fun personality and fluffy mohawk between her ears, which makes her look like a bunny rock star! Though Rosie loves to get her energy out running around a room, she happily returns to her enclosure to hang out and chill. She would do well in a designated bunny-proof room with a large enclosure for her rest times.

Rosie is a very curious and playful bunny. She loves to do binkies and run around the room--especially at dusk after getting her evening greens. She will ping-pong jump back and forth in her enclosure until let out, where she will then zoom around the room at top speed for 5 minutes before returning to her enclosure to eat some more. If you hold very still or if you are working on the floor, she will come up to you and put her paws on you. If you are laying on the ground, she might even jump right over you! Once she gets comfortable she will go up to the baseboards on the wall, and flop dramatically by rolling her back against the wall so that her tummy is showing. She also loves to shimmy her way into tight spaces when exploring.

This fun girl would prefer to go to a household where she and her sister are the only animals. Rosie loves to be the center of attention and gets along great with children. She is very food-motivated, so it is easy for kids to get into her trust circle by offering her fresh greens (parsley and leaf lettuce are her go-to), or her favorite treat, a bit of strawberry. She also enjoys bunny safe toys and wooden chews. Like most bunnies, Rosie is not a huge fan of being picked up or cuddled. She prefers to let her feet leave the ground through her own dramatic jumps and kicks! Cats don’t bother her too much, but if they get close, she runs away. She would probably have a similar reaction to dogs.
