Coco spent most of her 2 1/2 years living in an outdoor pen with several other dogs, so she wasn't exposed to many people or things beyond her small world. However, this cute 16-lb. rat terrier/mountain feist mix has quickly become her new foster mom's shadow. Wherever Foster Mom sits, Coco will jump up beside her. On the other hand, time, patience, and lots of treats and reassuring words were needed for Coco to warm up to her foster dad. In the beginning, she would bark and growl at him whenever he moved around the house. Now the two are good friends, but she still feels uncertain about new people. She will need about 15 minutes and a bit of distance to begin to feel comfortable around guests. She prefers a calm environment where people are seated much of the time, so a home with young children would not be a good fit for her.

Coco gets along with the three other dogs in her foster home and has started playing a bit. (A canine buddy in her adoptive home will help her feel at ease more quickly.) She loves chewing bones and can be heard playfully tossing them around when no one is watching. She doesn't mind being crated, but she's trustworthy to be left loose and reliably house-trained as long as she can dash out into a fenced yard for potty breaks. That fence will also be needed to safely contain her during her daily attack of the "zoomies."
