Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

    thanks

What kind of home would be best for me? Tommy is looking for guidance, love and compassion. This world is big, and he is experiencing it a little later than most pups. Tommy is discovering the world and hasn't had the life that many dogs learn early on. He’s shy and cautious around people, but with a handful of treats Tommy is a sweet and affectionate dog. Tommy is looking for some calm in his life, laidback Sundays to watch the game and drink a glass of iced tea.

Tommy would thrive in a home with another dog but be mindful. He's an older gentleman looking for a companion, not a playmate. He would also be happy as your one and only. He’d do well in a home with a single person or couple. A calm and quiet environment will help Tommy feel more at ease, but Tommy is not against children being around him. He is sweet and gentle in nature; however, he would prefer a more collected environment. Laying in bed with students as they study sounds better than rough-housing in the backyard.

He’s a big guy who will thrive in a house with a fenced-in yard, where he can explore and play safely. While Tommy can be social with people, he’s very much an introvert when it comes to other dogs—he’s particular about his canine friends and prefers companions that will walk beside him rather than bounce off his back. We get it Tommy we have specifics in friends too. For this reason, Tommy is better suited for walks in the park over dog park visits. He would love a stroll in the garden over loud crazy dog parks. Tommy would love hanging out in the backyard with you and your friends' dogs or walks on the beach with his furry companion.

What is my personality like? Tommy can be an old man. He's a mature adult give him some slack, okay? Tommy is like a grandpa truthfully, he likes his peace and quiet. Loves his grandkids but doesn't want them bounding through his house. He wants a hot black coffee in the morning and to watch the game in the evening. That said, he also has a soft side and is the most sweet and loving gentlemen. He will eventually seek out pets and attention. It's just once he had sniffed you out enough.

Tommy will need an adopter who is committed to spending time with him and providing consistent guidance. He does have a lot to learn. Patience, kindness, and love will be key as Tommy continues to open up and learn to be a more confident dog. Defrost that old man heart with a coffee and doughnut.

His new family should be prepared to work with him on basic queues, and ongoing socialization. He enjoys going for walks, and is polite on the lead. Regular outings will not only help him build trust but also strengthen the bond between you.

How do I act when I first meet new people? Tommy is approachable, but he tends to keep his emotions under wraps when meeting new people. He enjoys affection and is happy to receive pets, though he may not show a lot of enthusiasm right away. He is a very easy going guy, he just needs someone to trust.

Other tips and tidbits: Tommy was born on 11/10/2016.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

    Thank you for considering CPR.
