Tough times often result in heartbreaking stories. Canela, the 4-year-old Great Dane/Mixed Breed girl has a sad tale to tell as she seeks a happy ending with a forever home and family with room in their hearts and home for this gentle giant.
Her owner surrendered her after her family lost their home and were reduced to living in a car.
Knowing that was no place for such a regal girl, her owner surrendered her to give her a new start in life. Canela is a very large dog (101 pounds) who thinks she is a tiny canine as she loves tiny toys, blankets and getting tucked in all warm and cozy. Canela is comfortable with other dogs although she does not seek much playtime with them as she, like most Great Danes, tires a bit easily and prefers to relax. She is also comfortable with children. It is not known if she is comfortable with cats.
Canela is working at her house and leash training. She is a big but gentle soul so positive gentle lessons with a strong firm hand will help her master her manners. Rescue dogs can have accidents as they settle into new surroundings. If crate training is planned, Canela requires a very large crate so she can stand up, turn around and lie down. It will take a special home and family with room in their house and in their hearts to welcome such a big girl, but Canela will return huge rewards in affection and gratitude for showing her that she belongs.
*When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability.
The adoption fee for Canela is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue, and transport fees.
