Sophie is a beautiful 5-6 years old lab mix, she weighs about 50 lbs. She came from a rural shelter in New Mexico. CCR has been told she is a lab mix breed mix, but that is just a guess made by shelter staff, rescue volunteers, and our veterinarians.
Sophie is a great medium energy dog! She loves to go for daily hikes/walks, and snooze the rest of the day away. Sophie was found as a stray in New Mexico, she was very shy and anxious when she came to CCR. She has grown in confidence in the last year, but she will need a good leader to help her continue to progress. She seems to prefer females, she has some weird/fearful behavior towards men at home, so she needs a man that is very patient and willing to work to win her heart. It takes time for Sophie to adjust and bond, but she is extremely loyal once you gain her trust. Sophie is house trained with access to a doggie door. She knows basic commands: sit, lay down, paw, come and can catch treats. She is also kennel trained and loves to have that safe space to retreat to. She is a Velcro dog indoors, she lives to snuggle under blankets. Sophie loves to sniff and explore the great outdoors, she needs a good hiking buddy. She is uncomfortable around high, hyper, excited energy, so she needs a home without children. Sophie is good with other dogs and cats. Sophie rarely plays with dogs at the dog park, she is more interested in using her nose, but enjoys romping with her doggie house mate and one of the neighbor dogs that visits frequently. Sophie is a creature of habit and thrives with routine. Sophie is looking for a mellow household that enjoys being outside and going for daily walks. She needs a patient leader, preferable with experience working with anxiety. She would do well having a calm dog or cat friend around, but could also be a solo companion in the right setting. Sophie is a very sweet dog that needs a home that is ready to commit and give her a wonderful forever home.

She is spayed, housebroken, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped.
