SVPP Dog Day Out Notes:
Bandit:
Today I went to Oak Grove Park with Danielle & Jeremy! I loved my long walk and very much enjoyed taking breaks in between for bench cuddles. I barked at two huskys walking with their owner but didn't care about the dogs we walked by passing the dog park. I experienced rain today! When I felt it land on my back it felt silly so I did some zoomies on the leash because I'm a silly boy! I also learned what windshield wipers were! They startled me and I barked at them! I realized after the 5th time trying to catch them that they weren't dangerous!
Bandit, as we were told was a bit hard to. leash up - but seemingly only because he was soooooo excited to be out and about! He's such a fun & loving dog with a silly side. He only reacted to dogs on leash once. He was a little weirded out by the rain and did some silly leash zoomies / chased his tail, but calmed down once he realized that it wasn't scary. He's so great in the car - he also loved playing with the ball we had for him!
SVPP Dog Day Out Notes:
I went for a walk in a very nice neighborhood! There were a few dogs and they distracted me, but my friend had yummy treats to help me refocus and keep walking. I am working on sitting at the corner to help me pay attention to my friend. After the walk we went to a nice place where I got to play with toys! Toys are SO FUN!
Bandit's stress in the shelter is still very evident. When he first come out, he is so excited that getting him leashed and harnessed is a challenge. However, as soon as we get outside, he calms quickly. In the car, he is relaxing more easily and on the walk, he is just a sweet boy! He needs and deserves a dog-savvy family who will help him manage stress and allow him to relax.
June 13, 2025 - Bandit has been in foster care since May 2, 2023, and during this time, he has blossomed into a well-mannered and loving companion. Over the past two years, he has learned a variety of tricks including `sit,` `paw,` playing tug-of-war, chasing leaves, and fetching his toysâespecially his beloved giant balls. Bandit treasures his toys and often prefers to keep them to himself rather than share with other dogs. When heâs in the mood to play with a human, heâll gently place a toy on your lap and gaze deeply into your eyes, as if begging you to join him.
Bandit has also developed a deep love for waterâit both soothes and energizes him. He enjoys lounging by the pool, splashing in sprinklers, going on short swims, floating on kayaks, and joining in safe water adventures while wearing his life vest.
While Bandit has come a long way, he is still learning about the world around him. New experiences, objects, or environments can make him anxious, which he expresses by spinning in circles. He also circles when he needs to go outside to peeâa clear sign that he hates soiling the space where he sleeps. Once he gets a sniff of fresh air and feels the ground beneath him, heâs ready to do his business. Smart boy!
Bandit thrives on Blue Buffalo kibbls, home-cooked meals with rice, potatoes, vegetables, and protein, and he canât resist treats like doggie ice cream, popsicles, and pup cups. His absolute favorite? Applesâespecially the ones he can pick straight from the tree. He also loves bully sticks, marrow bones, tough ropes, and, of course, those giant balls. Heâll guard his treasures with determination.
Bandit adores people and gets very excited when meeting someone new. With patience and consistency, he can be taught to greet others calmly. He loves walks and sniffing adventures, but because of his size and strength, quieter walking areas are ideal. He can be nervous and reactive around larger, furrier dogs like huskies, though heâs generally more tolerant of smaller dogs. Introductions to other dogs should always be slow and carefully supervised, on leash.
Since Bandit hasnât mastered recall just yet, a home with a secure outdoor space where he can run and spin to his heartâs content would be perfect.
Due to his size and strength, Bandit should be placed in an adult-only home. While heâs incredibly lovable, he wouldnât be a good fit for first-time dog owners. He needs an experienced, active householdâpreferably with large bully breed experienceâso he can continue his training and grow into the very best boy heâs destined to be.
