Hi, my name is Dixie. I was rescued in Memphis, TN in 2011 - my family thinks I'm about 7 years old. My former owners left me hog-tied and hungry but that didn't break my spirit! I am super loveable and snuggly. I'm a great companion for jogging, hiking, swimming, and chasing balls. But I'm not too high-energy; lounging all day is also cool in my book. I am spayed, fit and healthy, and up-to-date on my shots, preventive flea/tick meds and heartworm prevention. I am the proud pup of a 4-year-old girl and I'm great with her and her friends. My soul sister, Tella, and I play really well together (see video above) and also comfort each other; ideally, we would go to our new home together. Unfortunately, my currently family thought they would be our forever home, but work/travel schedules and budget constraints have made things unsustainable. We would love a new family with a bit more space and time to spend with us!

She requires fairly regular activity, either mental or physical, to make her happy and content. She is best suited to a household that has human members that will engage her in regular activity. She can be very focused on a task (sometimes to exclusion of everything else). She is easy to train to new tasks as long as you convince her YOU are the one to focus on! There is nothing in the world that is scary to this dog. New places and new people are treated like she has known them her whole life. She does not flamboyantly express affection with lots of cuddles and licking, but is content to be near you, hear your voice, and get the occasional pat or praise.
