Arnie is a sweet, happy little fellow who was finally released from a life of breeding in a puppy mill. He is between 8 and 9 years old but definitely has the energy and silliness level of a 1 or 2 year old. Arnie is learning how to be a house dog and is doing well at that. He will need a family who will be patient and consistent with house training. As long as he doesn't have to share the same bowl at dinner time, he does great with other dogs and ignores cats. If you want a happy little buddy, you can't go wrong with Arnie.

We are currently looking for a retirement home / permanent foster home for Arnie. Just in time for Mother's Day, ROMP was able to rescue a mother/daughter duo from a mill! Gypsy's daughter, 2 year old, Azure is a petite girl and slightly underweight at about 6 lbs. She is very hand-shy and will need an experienced foster or adoptive home that can help her blossom with confidence over time. Her mill name was Blue Rose. A blue rose signifies love at first sight. As you can see in the photos, she does eventually melt into your arms. Now to find the right family whose hearts she can melt.

Bella is 7 years old and came to us as an owner surrender and she is just the cutest thing! She goes potty outside (when taken out frequently enough), is friendly with other dogs (big and little), has been around children before, and knows her basic commands.  Her family loved her dearly but due to life changes they had to part ways, it was a very tearful goodbye.  She is looking for a forever family to share her love with! ADOPTION PENDING

Beulah hitch-hiked all the way up to Illinois from Georgia where she was born and raised in a pupppy mill. Undoubtedly a former mill mom, Beulah is ready to have a home of her own with a family to spoil her. This pretty, petite blue girl is every bit a southern belle. Though she is still a bit shy, Beulah has a sweet, flirtatious personality. She enjoys being with other dogs and ignores cats. Beulah says that she would like a family that could help her learn all about everything she's been missing whie awaiting her chance to be freed from the mill. She wants to know what it's like to lie in the cool grass under a warm sunny sky. She'd like to go for nice evening strolls with her special someone. And, she'd definitely like to have a warm spot on the couch next to you on those cold winter days. We don't know an exact age for Beulah (one never asks a lady her age!) but we guesstimate her to be about 6 years old. Beulah is in good health despite years of dental neglect. She lost several teeth but that doesn't affect her appetite or ability to eat at all. You could never tell just by looking at her that she has a few "empty spots" in her mouth. Beulah will thrive with a family who has the patience and time to potty train her and slowly show her all the wonders the world has to offer.

ADOPTION PENDING -- Bobby was born in rescue. He comes from a litter of seven to a mother named Dixie. We believe Bobby to be a terrier mix as his mother appears to be a terrier mix, and anticipate his weight to be around 15lbs when fully grown. As the story goes, Dixie - Bobby's mom, was a young stray in the heart of Dixieland. She was very pregnant and wandered around the area begging from door to door. But, no one would take her in. She was badly matted and dirty. However, mama-to-be Dixie did not give up! After two months, she found someone to take her in and clean her up. That lady, a rescuer several states away, two more volunteers and the ROMP family coordinated to get the very pregnant Dixie to Chicago. Miss Dixie had Bobby while in the loving care of her foster home and is now the proud mama to a total of 7 pups (3 girls, 4 boys). Dixie seems to be a former pet that someone no longer wanted as she is potty trained, social and knows basic commands. She and her pups all have great dispositions, they are friendly and are being well socialized. Because Bobby was born on November 3, 2013, he will be available for adoption sometime around February/March 2014. When adopted he will be fully vetted/up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped.

Bridget is a beautiful little lady with a playful puppy personality. She started life living as a stray under a trailer down south with her mom, Cinnamon, and siblings. When ROMP heard about it we came to the rescue and scooped up the whole family where they were given healthy food, a roof over their head and lots of love (for starters)!  Her mom is a mix so she is a mix of unknown decent but we anticipate her to be around her mother's size (30lbs) at most. This little lady still needs work with potty training and her basic commands, as any puppy does, so her family will have to patient as she learns. Bubbles is one of the sweetest and happiest Italian Greyhounds you'll ever meet! She was rescued from a Missouri puppy mill that was being mandated to downsize. Many of the dogs in that mill were destined to be put down. Bubbles was one of the lucky ones who made it to rescue. She is approximately 2 years old and currently being housetrained to a potty pad. She is great with other dogs and would do fine in a household with dog savvy school-aged children.

Catdog was surrendered to ROMP at the age of 14 (through no fault of her own) and is looking for a loving forever with whom she can enjoy her golden years.  She is crate trained and potty trained (yippee) as long as she goes out every few hours, doesn't mind you trimming her nails and has a wiggly waggly tail.   She is in great shape for her age and although it is hard to tell, she does have some hearing and vision loss. Catdog lost all her teeth and her cute little tongue hangs out as she struts about but her lack of pearly whites does not hinder her appetite or the type of food she eats (or bones she enjoys chewing). This little lady climbs stairs, jumps on couches and beds, is drawn to whomever has food and loves to curl up next to you to be petted .  Catdog  gets along great with other dogs her size, is indifferent to cats, and would love to have a canine buddy to look up to.  She would best be suited for a family with a fenced yard and without young children that is looking for a charming little canine companion with whom they can enjoy the finer things in life.

Ceph & Azula are litter mates that lived their whole lives together. They were surrendered by their owner, though no fault of their own. Ceph is the brother, he has alopecia (a hair loss condition) but it doesn't effect him.  Azula is the sister, she is sweet as pie. Both pups are very friendly, love people, are litter box trained and know their basic commands. They LOVE treats and food, may swipe a cupcake if it's within sight but will sit so still during treat time.  Azula is a jumper, she will hop on furniture and tables with ease.  They are so affectionate, they would be suited for a family that can give them the love and attention they deserve and with a high fence and a big backyard.

They were very well cared for and loved, will you provide them a forever home to enjoy their sweet personalities and be enlightened by their darling personalities?

Courage is one of the "Iglets" posted above. He was given his name so that he can one day live up to it. Poor Courage was already afraid of human hands when he made his way to rescue from a puppy mill at the tender age of 7 weeks. So far he's learned to love hands that are kind and gentle and offering treats. He's just not sure about them when they reach for him. Courage needs a special home that has a lot of time to offer him so that he can grow up a well-socialized and brave boy. He already walks nicely on leash and enjoys curling into a familiar lap. He loves people watching at the park and wrestling with his sisters. Potty training is a work in progress so Courage will need an understanding family who can be consistent and patient. A home with puppy and Italian Greyhound experience is preferred.

***ADOPTION PENDING**

Crawford and his littermates (three brothers) were born into rescue a short while after their pregnant mother, Kai, was rescued from a puppy mill. She did a fabulous job raising her last litter in a comfortable, loving, home environment and actually got to see her babies grow up. This is much unlike her previous experience living at the mill where babies are taken away from their mothers at only five or six weeks of age to be shipped across the country to pet stores. The only thing that mamma wants now is for her babies to find loving forever families who will commit to pampering her pups for their entire lifetime.

The best family for Crawford will be one who is experienced raising a puppy and who does not have very young children in the household.  Crawford will be available for adoption at the end of October/early November by a family that understands the needs of an Italian Greyhound, can continue to socialize him and work on his potty training.

Daisy is a nice athletic little dog with an extremely sweet disposition.  She is a very humble young lady who loves cuddling.  She came to us with her siblings from a backyard breeder.  Now all she wants is a backyard, bed, toys, and a family of her own who will offer her a lifetime of cuddles, love and commitment.

Daisy uses potty pads and is ready to be transitioned to outdoor pottying.  She gets along well with other dogs, doesn't pay much attention to cats, and would do well with a dog-savvy older child.

Dakota and his brother and sisters are Foxie's kids. We can guess that Foxie is a Spaniel mix but dad is a mystery! We're guessing he may have been a Pug/beagle mix or, in Dakota's case, maybe even a dachshund but we can't be sure. Dakota probably takes after dad because he's built differently from his siblings and is the largest in his litter. As of 6/20, he weighs in at 17 lbs. and has a longer body much like that of a dachshund. Dakota is a happy, happy guy who just wants to play and wrestle his siblings all day long! Nothing phases him except being the last to get a treat! When he's not playing, Dakota is the bed snuggler and lap warmer! Dakota needs a loving family who will be willing to make a lifelong commitment to him and give him every opportunity to learn and fulfill his potential as a loving pet. Dakota is potty pad trained (as well as a young pup can be) and ready to be transitioned to outdoor pottying. The ideal family for Dakota will not have children younger than 7 and will have experience raising, training and socializing a puppy.

Dixie was a young stray in the heart of Dixieland. She was very pregnant and wandered around the area begging from door to door. But, no one would take her in. She was badly matted and dirty. However, mama-to-be Dixie did not give up! After two months, she found someone to take her in and clean her up. That lady, a rescuer several states away, two more volunteers and the ROMP family coordinated to get the very pregnant Dixie to Chicago. She was almost to her foster home when she went into labor and her first pup was born at an oasis just outside the city. A few hours later, Miss Dixie had the rest of her litter and is now the proud mama of 7 pups (3 girls, 4 boys). Dixie has a great dispositions and friendly, loving personality. Although we do not know her background, she appears to be 1.5-2 years old, a terrier mix and her size is around 15lbs.  We will have her spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped upon adoption.  She is still spending time with her puppies, we anticipate she will be adoption ready come early 2014.  Miss Dixie does well with potty training, loves treats, is very friendly and knows some of her basic commands.

Duke is a very sweet Miniature Dachshund weighing in at only 8 pounds. He's only about 4-5 years old and is ready for the first and only forever home in his life! Duke was originally surrendered by a breeder who had no use for him. Now all he wants is to be loved and pampered the way he was meant to be - in a warm bed (not a wire-bottom cage), with a loving human family (not a commercial breeder with no time for cuddles), and the security of knowing that this is home - forever. Duke is adjusting to being a house dog very well. Initially, he's shy but warms up. He's a very loving dog who enjoys being held as much as he likes to run and play once he's comfortable in his environment. . He would do best in a home that has another mellow dog he could look up to and call his buddy. Duke would do well with dog-savvy children over the age of 10.

We brought him right to the pet spa and under his dirty, stinky, matted coat was a cute little bundle of adorableness with a personality to match.  Now that he is feeling marvelous and is eager to find his forever home! This little boy loves to be petted, something he never experienced before so if you enjoy a sweet companion - he is the man for you! He is approximately 3 years old and weighs about 5 lbs. Emma was recently surrendered by a backyard breeder with another litter of Yorkies.  Though they came to rescue disheveled and matted, they just enjoyed their very first time at the spa.  Now they look and feel mahhvelous!  The pups are eager to take the next step to find a human forever family of their own.  They are taking applications and scheduling interviews so don't hesitate or else you may miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime.  
The pups are about 9 months old and weigh approximately 4 pounds.  They will require families without very young children.  They need someone who will patiently work with them on potty training and someone who enjoys grooming their four-legged companion.  These pups love other similar sized dogs and Emma even hopes to have a kitty of her own some day.
 
Emma is still a bit shy so she will need a patient and understanding family that will show her how much there is to love about the whole new world around her.  In return she will be a devoted snuggle bunny.

Since coming in to rescue, Fozzie's personality is blossoming from a submissive puppy to one who is hilarious and outgoing. Meet sweet Gia who was originally rescued as a pup from a puppy mill.  She went on to be adopted by a wonderful and loving family.  Unfortunately, her owner passed away and Gia found herself in need of another forever home at the age of 6.

Gia loves other dogs and doesn't mind kitties.  She has a preference for women but would do well with certain men.  She is used to pottying outdoors or on pads but will occasionally have some accidents.  She would love a home that would take her for walks, cuddle with her and maybe even have a canine playmate to spend time with, too.

Gia is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

Ginger came to us from a kill shelter at only 10 weeks old!  She is a sweet girl with a friendly disposition, does well on a leash considering her age, enjoys the company of other dogs, will roll over for belly rubs, and loves to explore the world around her! Because we never saw her parents, we can only guess her full grown size to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-40lbs. This little lady is very playful and as is true with collies (and puppies) loves to stay active.  Because she is so young, she will not be adopted out until late fall but we are accepting applications and hope to secure her family before then! This former mill momma was sold at auction by one of the largest puppy mills in the country. Luckily, she made her way to rescue where she was able to find kindness and love for the first time. Where she felt the grass beneath her feet for the first time while also discovering toys, a soft bed, nutritious food, and best of all - freedom to run and explore the world around her. Grazia has been fostered by a wonderful family who feels that she may do better and blossom even more in a female only household. She will thrive in a quiet environment as loud noises and chaos seem to make her anxious. She'll need lots of love and one-on-one attention. Grazia loves other dogs as long as they don't try to dominate her. At the dog park, she definitely enjoys time with her canine buddies. She does well pottying on pads and outdoors as long as she is on a consistent schedule. What Grazia needs most is a patient family who will help her gain confidence and build her trust in her own time with gentle prodding. Through no fault of his own, Harvey finds himself in need of a new forever home.  His current human companion can no longer provide the care that he feels Harvey deserves and so with a heavy heart he writes this in hopes of findingthe  perfect family for his beloved canine companion:        

"Harvey is an extremely loving IG who craves a lot of affection. He is most comfortable around quiet, calm people, but loves a long rambunctious play time as well. He was once very shy around new people, but he has come to love meeting new people and being the center of attention. At the end of the day, though, give him a warm body to curl up to and he's never been happier. Because he craves affection so much, he would do best in a home where he is not left alone for too long. He loves being in his crate when I'm away at work and feels very safe there (especially if you put a heating pad under it for added warmth), but if left alone for too long he becomes anxious and has accidents. He really needs a regular routine to feel safe and calm, so living in a household with a regular routine (of people coming and going) would be ideal. He hasn't been around kids much and tends to be jumpy around them -- I think it's just because kids make more unexpected movements and noises.He also LOVES other dogs -- the bigger the better. The only down side of this is that his energy is endless and the dogs he is playing with usually tire out before he does! However, despite his love for other dogs he would do best in a home as an old dog as he gets jealous. Harv's biggest need is love, and once you meet him, you'll fall in love."

We would like to note he knows his basic commands and even a few extras. If you are looking for a companion to love 'right out of the box' this sweet boy is for you!  He was just in the Schaumburg parade and did well with all the children petting him as he walked the parade route!

Hi. I'm Hazel and me and my mom, Kelly, just arrived in rescue from the puppy mill where I was born. I'm a little overwhelmed by all these things I'm experiencing for the first time - being loved by a human, eating good food, discovering the purpose of toys, feeling the grass beneath my feet, learning to go for walks on lead, navigating stairs (furniture is coming up I'm told), the sounds of city life... Even though sometimes these things seem a bit scary, I'm really excited to learn about them and become used to them. I need a human family who will be patient with me and introduce me to the world step by step. Someone who will look forward to watching me blossom. Someone who will let me learn at my own pace but not over-coddle me. I want to be challenged but not forced. In return, once we trust each other, I'll be your best friend. I'll make you smile every day at least 100 times. I'll keep you warm in bed in the winter and I'll be a good listener and keep all your secrets. ADOPTION PENDING FOR OCTOBER

Hossa and his littermates (three brothers) were born into rescue a short while after their pregnant mother, Kai, was rescued from a puppy mill. She did a fabulous job raising her last litter in a comfortable, loving, home environment and actually got to see her babies grow up. This is much unlike her previous experience living at the mill where babies are taken away from their mothers at only five or six weeks of age to be shipped across the country to pet stores. The only thing that mamma wants now is for her babies to find loving forever families who will commit to pampering her pups for their entire lifetime.

The best family for Hossa will be one who is experienced raising a puppy and who does not have very young children in the household.  Hossa will be available for adoption at the end of October/early November by a family that understands the needs of an Italian Greyhound, can continue to socialize him and work on his potty training.

Izzy is a little ball of sweet energy! She came from a breeder who no longer needed her despite her young age of only about a year and a half. Izzy has a very submissive personality and works very hard to learn all about being a beloved pet...a role she's only acquiring for the first time now. Jack is a very sweet 9 month old Italian Greyhound who was rescued from a puppymill. He loves to cuddle, play and is absolutely fascinated by the t.v. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is just waiting to give his heart to the right family. Jack will need to live in a house. Apartments and townhomes are not recommended for this fellow as he is working on learning when it's appropriate to bark and when it's not.

I ran away from home with only the shirt on my back. I was wearing a fashionable T-Shirt with bones on it. I was hot, hungry and thirsty. I was captured and taken to a shelter. I have a microchip but my phone number had changed. The chip was traced back to my breeder and it was purchased in 2007 by someone in central or southern Missouri. He did not return the shelters call. I was not claimed, so after three weeks, I was scheduled for a lethal injection. My only crime was getting lost. A kind shelter volunteer named Julie noticed that I was really cute and was obviously someones pet, so she called around to get someone to foster me. Julie took me home and Sharon became my foster Mom. I got to meet and play with other Iggies at Sharons house. Sharon gave me a bath and a pedicure. Thankfully, I didnt have fleas. Then she took me to the doctor for neutering, a dental cleaning, skin tag removal, heartworm test, and vaccinations. Since I was a stray and no one knew my name. Sharon decided to call me Joey. We rescued Kai from a mill in May and she had a surprise for us, she was pregnant. She gave birth to 4 beautiful baby iggy boys in June. They are her last litter. We are happy she gets our love, good food, a warm bed and a lot of pampering rather than mill like conditions to raise puppies in.  Kai will be available for adoption this October / November and we are looking for a forever family that can pamper her like she deserves!   She is still a bit timid but as most Iggies, she will warm up in surroundings she grows familiar with.  She will need a family that can continue to introduce her to the world outside of puppymills, be patient with potty training, and continue to socialize her. Meet Kat! She's a very elegant young lady who needs a patient and loving home. Hi everyone. My rescuer wanted me to tell you a little about myself. I was rescued on St. Patrick's Day along with Hazel, my daughter. (That's how I got my beautiful Irish name even though I'm Italian.) We came from a puppy mill. We didn't learn much at the mill except how to survive day to day. But now, I'm slowly learning to trust humans. You guys still make me nervous so I need someone who will not take that personally and who will understand that all I need is some time to get used to life outside of a mill and some love. I'm really looking forward to spending my first summer playing in the grass, going for walks, and learning about all the different toys and treats out in the world! I need to learn more practical things like potty training and maneuvering furniture and stairs, but I promise I'll do my best. Just be patient with me. Kristy Kringle was rescued from a puppy mill where she lived in a cage and produced puppies her whole life. She is a little timid but once in a lap, loves to be petted. Because she has never been a pet, she is still learning how to use stairs, what dog beds and blankets are, how to get up and down from furniture, what good food tastes like, what a treat is, and what playtime with toys means. Kuma was born in rescue. He comes from a litter of seven to a mother named Dixie. We believe Kuma to be a terrier mix as his mother appears to be a terrier mix, and anticipate his weight to be around 15lbs when fully grown. As the story goes, Dixie - Kuma's mom, was a young stray in the heart of Dixieland. She was very pregnant and wandered around the area begging from door to door. But, no one would take her in. She was badly matted and dirty. However, mama-to-be Dixie did not give up! After two months, she found someone to take her in and clean her up. That lady, a rescuer several states away, two more volunteers and the ROMP family coordinated to get the very pregnant Dixie to Chicago. Miss Dixie had Kuma while in the loving care of her foster home and is now the proud mama to a total of 7 pups (3 girls, 4 boys). Dixie seems to be a former pet that someone no longer wanted as she is potty trained, social and knows basic commands. She and her pups all have great dispositions, they are friendly and are being well socialized. Because Kuma was born on November 3, 2013, he will be available for adoption sometime around February/March 2014. When adopted he will be fully vetted/up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped.

Lady is a very sweet dog who was dumped at a kill shelter by her puppy miller when she was no longer profitable. Being treated as only a money-maker her entire life, Lady never knew things like toys, a soft bed, going for a stroll with her human companion on a warm summer day, or even love. Since coming in to rescue, Lady has slowly begun the transition to the life she should have had all along. It's been a slow process but Lady has shown she wants to overcome the scars of her past. All she needs now is someone who is willing to open their hearts and home to her and let her come along at her own pace with no expectations. Lady's foster mother reports the following: "Lady is doing very well considering her start in life. Shes starting to come around more and more each day. Ive even stolen a glance at her just about trying to play with a squeaky! She uses potty pads without question. We are still working on switching her potty habits to outdoors. That is something her new family would definitely have to work on. Lady would do best in a quiet home with soft-spoken people. I do not recommend her going to a home with young children. Shes definitely not the type that would do well with the hustle and bustle of having children around. Another small to medium, playful dog for courage would be great, too! Lady is quite smart. She does well with other dogs and cats. All in all, Lady is quite the sweetheart. Like most Iggies, she loves to sleep under the covers and nap in the sunlight. All she needs is an understanding family willing to show her the wonders of puppy love."

Mario is nine years young and shows no signs of growing up any time soon! This handsome boy was brought in to a vet's office for euthanasia because his family's circumstances had changed and they could no longer care for him. Luckily, the vet and his staff could not bear to send this happy, healthy boy to Rainbow Bridge just yet and commenced looking for a rescue to take him. Mario loves chasing squirrels, snuggling on the couch, sleeping under the covers in bed, and going for walks. He wants to be with his human companion all the time and will do his best to please. Mario finds young children overwhelming so the best home for him would be one without children and one whose family is willing to spend lots of time at home with him. Mario doesn't want to be a freeloader and is willing to be trained for activities that would bring him out to visit senior centers, etc. This boy has a lot of love and time left to share with a family who wants a devoted companion.

Merryweather is looking for a lap to call her own.  Her and her siblings were recently surrendered by a backyard breeder.  Though they came to rescue disheveled and matted, they just enjoyed their very first time at the spa.  Now they look and feel mahhvelous!  The pups are eager to take the next step to find a human forever family of their own.  They are taking applications and scheduling interviews so don't hesitate or else you may miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime.

She was diagnosed with a luxating patella (loose knee cap) and will need surgery to correct this condition. However, once healed, Minnie can have a fully active and healthy life. Mirra was surrendered to ROMP, though no fault of her own.  She's 8 months old, a little over 7 pounds and just the cutest little iggy that instantly makes you fall for her charming personality! She loves meeting people, craves attention, is easy to please as long as she has her human nearby, gets along well with other dogs, is quickly learning her basic commands and is well on her way to being potty trained.  She will be best in a home without birds, cats or other pets aside from dogs.  Because she craves so much attention, her family must be around her all the time and because she is such a tiny little lady, she will not be well suited for a family with little children.

Miss L Toe was rescued from a puppy mill where she lived in a cage and produced puppies her whole life. She is a little timid but once in a lap, loves to be petted. She will need a family that can work with her on potty training, basic commands and show her the joys of life outside a mill. Because she has never been a pet, she is still learning how to use stairs, what dog beds and blankets are, how to get up and down from furniture, what good food tastes like, what a treat is, and what playtime with toys means. She will not be well suited for a family with little children. She is up to date on shots, spayed, and microchipped.

Missy is just waiting to light up someone's life! She is ALWAYS happy and ready to be loved on or played with. This sweet girl was kept outside her entire life - in the cold of winter or the sweltering heat of summer - it didn't matter. Despite being used as a mere lawn ornament, Missy didn't lose her capacity for love. She just beams when her foster mom steps into the room. Missy is a larger-sized Pomeranian with lots of gorgeous hair that will need regular brushing. She currently uses potty pads while indoors. Her ideal family will let her live indoors with them and will enjoy the great outdoors with her by taking her for walks and letting her play in a fenced in yard. And if you have another dog for her to play with, all the better!

Molly was born in rescue. She comes from a litter of seven to a mother named Dixie. We believe Molly to be a terrier mix as her mother appears to be a terrier mix, and anticipate her weight to be around 15lbs when fully grown. As the story goes, Dixie - Molly's mom, was a young stray in the heart of Dixieland. She was very pregnant and wandered around the area begging from door to door. But, no one would take her in. She was badly matted and dirty. However, mama-to-be Dixie did not give up! After two months, she found someone to take her in and clean her up. That lady, a rescuer several states away, two more volunteers and the ROMP family coordinated to get the very pregnant Dixie to Chicago. Miss Dixie had Molly while in the loving care of her foster home and is now the proud mama to a total of 7 pups (3 girls, 4 boys). Dixie seems to be a former pet that someone no longer wanted as she is potty trained, social and knows basic commands. She and her pups all have great dispositions, they are friendly and are being well socialized. Because Molly was born on November 3, 2013, she will be available for adoption sometime around February/March 2014. When adopted she will be fully vetted/up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped. UPDATE: This is Mrs. Livingston speaking. Are you kidding me? I can't believe no one has snapped me up yet. Ever since I came to rescue I have been working on building my courage up. Now I'm ready to speak for myself! You won't find a better companion than me! I've learned how to play with toys. I jump and dance in circles with joy. I always greet humans with a smile on my face and love to cuddle. (My mom says I would be a great pet for people who work from home, are retired, or even a family with dog-savvy children. You see? I'm versatile!) What else could a human want in their dog? All I ask in return is that you make a commitment to love and care for me for the rest of my life. Keep me safe and never ever take me back to a place like a puppy mill. I now see the beautiful life I've been missing out on and I don't want to miss out on any more of it. I just need a friend who will let me share theirs with them. Besides, if I get adopted that'll make room for another dog like me who got a bad break early in their life and give them a chance to learn what it's like to be loved, too. >>>>>>>>>>>> This sweet girl came to rescue from a mill that didn't want her because she wasn't a good mom. That was her lucky break! As sweet as she is, it's hard to believe she wasn't a good mom. Mrs. Livingston is a complete love with a joyful spirit. She's always happy to see her foster mom and greets her with lots of tail wags and smiles. She's great with other dogs and cats and is not a barker. Mrs. Livingston arrived with her coat shaved down probably due to previously matted, neglected hair. However, her new beautiful silky soft coat is starting to come in again. Mrs. Livingston is about a year and a half old. She'll need a home that is willing to spoil and provide her with all the cuddles she wants. She's doing well with potty pad training but will need to be patiently transitioned to outdoor potty training.

This little fella was an impulse purchase at a pet store. Luckily, almost immediately the new owner realized that he didn't have the time a puppy needs and relinquished him to rescue. Murphy is just a baby, born April 22nd. He will need a family with someone home most of the day so that he can get the proper attention and training that he needs so he can grow up a well-socialized, confident guy. "Morkies" require regular grooming, toothbrushing, and patience in potty training. Because Murphy is so young and small, a home without young children is preferred. Murphy will be up to date on vaccinations, dewormed and microchipped upon adoption.

Who could ever resist these faces? Especially since their personalities match! These four babies (two boys and two girls) were born in rescue a short while after their pregnant mother was rescued from a puppy mill. She did a fabulous job raising her last litter in a comfortable, loving home environment and actually got to see her babies grow up and had the opportunity to teach them appropriate canine social skills. This is much unlike her previous experience living at the mill where babies are taken away from their mothers at only five or six weeks of age to be shipped across the country to pet stores. The only thing that mamma wants now is for her babies to find loving forever families who will commit to pampering her pups for their entire lifetime. The best families for these babies will be those who are already experienced raising a puppy and who do not have children under the age of 8. The puppies will be ready to join their new families once they turn 12 weeks old.

Nikki is a former mill mom, approximately 6 yrs old,  looking for a loving forever family of her own. This is what her foster mom says about her:  "She like dogs of any size. With time and a regular consistent schedule she gains trust quickly.  Loves her belly rubs & running like the wind in the yard. A big fan of her favorite blanket & pillow and lounging all day in her safe spot on the couch. Crate trained at night as well as when left unattended. She is still working on potty training but does well with a consistent schedule. Likes to eat, knows many commands already. She's doing great. Doesn't mind the car rides in the crate either. I think she will make a wonderful pet for the right family. Oliver is a spunky little man that runs the show. He has a larger than life personality despite a small little dog stature and is an overall entertaining fellow.  He and his siblings were recently surrendered by a backyard breeder.  Though they came to rescue disheveled and matted, they just enjoyed their very first time at the spa.  Now they look and feel mahhvelous!  The pups are eager to take the next step to find a human forever family of their own.  They are taking applications and scheduling interviews so don't hesitate or else you may miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime.  
 
The pups are about 9 months old and weigh approximately 4 pounds.  They will require families without very young children.  They need someone who will patiently work with them on potty training and someone who enjoys grooming their four-legged companion.  These pups love other similar sized dogs and older children.

PENDING ADOPTION
A lover who nibbles on your ears and who wraps his paws around your shoulders. A cuddler who wants to snuggle under the covers. A socialite who loves to play. Oliver is a 6 year old Italian Greyhound that loves to snuggle in bed under the covers and give affection. He does well with other dogs, large and small, and older children. He was surrendered by his owner as they could no longer give him the attention he deserves. With that being said, we would be best suited for a family that does not intend to crate their pup for extended periods of time because it causes him anxiety to be in a crate. He does well when crated with another dog, however. He is well mannered, polite, friendly, and has a lot of love to give. He is up to date on shots, neutered, had a dental, and is microchipped. Oscar is a very loving dog with his doggie parent. He wants to snuggle very close and loves attention. He is very food driven so he responds well to treats. Penny was rescued as a young pup from a mill. She came to rescue with a soft spot on her head and kennel cough. She never knew love or kindness from humans. She didn't know what toys were. Nevertheless, she had a rambunctious spirit and a desire to please. Penny was adopted by a family who opened a whole new world to her. She has a big sister, Gracie, to look up to and two kitties to love. Here is what she's accomplished in just a few short, love-filled months of adoption: "Just wanted to let you know that Penny graduated her Polite Puppy course as class valedictorian! She showed off her loose leash walking skills, her sits, downs, stays, leave its and recall as well as her fancy 'roll over'. She earned 10 'points' (doggie biscuits) which was more than any other puppy! [W]e've already started the Good Manners 2 class and she really seems to like it. We're learning to strengthen the cues we already know as well as learning targeting, heeling and next week we'll work on Go To Your Bed which we already started on at home a little while ago - I think we have another valedictorian ranking coming to us! Peppy was born in September and spent the first five months of his life in a puppy mill. Now he is a free pup and is wasting no time in learning what it's like to be a loved pet. He is best described as exuberant and spirited! Peppy weighs about eight pounds. He is just starting the potty training process. Peppy loves playing with other dogs and enjoys human attention although he is still a tiny bit hand shy. However, this should pass with time and a loving family to teach him that there's nothing to fear anymore. UPDATE 3/29/10: Peppy is just about through teething and has become much less hand-shy! It was probably those darned sore gums that were making him feel uncomfortbale around the mouth. He's had a growth spurt and is up to about 12 pounds of immensely loveable puppiness. He is a big ball of joy and playfulness and is just waiting for the right family to give him plenty of bell rubs and love. We suspect he may be something along the lines of a Papillon and Sheltie mix.

We suspect Phoebe was once a cherished pet because she shows no typical signs of having always lived in a cage. She is in-your-face happy and loving! She is excited about exploring the world around her. (The attached photos show her enjoying her first taste of freedom. fresh air and sunshine the day she was surrendered and came to rescue. Pippi is an incredibly sweet terrier mix who was born in a mill in November. We're guessing she may be part Jack Russell Terrier. She gets along great with other dogs and doesn't seem to mind cats. Pippi would do best in a home that can offer her consistency in the potty training department and who understands how to raise a well-socialized puppy. Priscilla found her way into a kill shelter after her owners could no longer care for her, through no fault of her own. Because she is 7 years old and a very large dog (nearly 80lbs), Miss Priscilla was quickly put at the top of the euthanize list.  It didn't matter that she was up-to-date on shots, spayed, raised by her last family since she was a puppy, and obviously very friendly - her clock was ticking. No worries though, we scooped her up and she made her way to ROMP.  She is a calm, sweet girl that is looking for a family to call her own, enjoy walks with, feed her delicious food, and show her a lot of love. Ralph was tearfully surrendered when his owner became too ill to care for him the way she believed he deserved to be cared for. Despite this setback, Ralph is showing himself to be just the sweetest little guy! We adore him and are so glad he is with us - brightening our lives every day. This love bug enjoys snuggling, giving kisses and yearns for the company of his human and other dogs alike. You can catch him sun bathing while perched on the top of the couch as he watches the world go by. He greets you at the door with gentle jumps and tail wags. He is very inquisitive and thinks he's part mountain goat climbing over piles of laundry. Ralph is 10 years young and was very loved so we are looking for a family that wants to share their life with a kindhearted, warm soul, that is well behaved and has so much love still to give.

Miss River was born in rescue. She comes from a litter of seven to a mother named Dixie. We believe River to be a terrier mix as her mother appears to be a terrier mix, and anticipate her weight to be around 15lbs when fully grown. As the story goes, Dixie - River's mom, was a young stray in the heart of Dixieland. She was very pregnant and wandered around the area begging from door to door. But, no one would take her in. She was badly matted and dirty. However, mama-to-be Dixie did not give up! After two months, she found someone to take her in and clean her up. That lady, a rescuer several states away, two more volunteers and the ROMP family coordinated to get the very pregnant Dixie to Chicago. Miss Dixie had River while in the loving care of her foster home and is now the proud mama to a total of 7 pups (3 girls, 4 boys). Dixie seems to be a former pet that someone no longer wanted as she is potty trained, social and knows basic commands. She and her pups all have great dispositions, they are friendly and are being well socialized. Because was born on November 3, 2013, she will be available for adoption sometime around February/March 2014. When adopted she will be fully vetted/up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped.

Roscoe is one of the sweetest and happiest pups you'll ever want to meet! His inquisitive and adventurous nature always has him in the thick of things. This young boy, born in a puppymill in late March, came into rescue just one short week after his former owner bought him at a petstore. He soon realized that raising and training an Italian Greyhound puppy was not a good fit for his lifestyle and made the commendable decision to put Roscoe in a situation suited to his best interests. All Roscoe needs and wants at this point is a family who understands puppies and what it takes to train and socialize them so he can reach his full potential as a happy, devoted companion. Roscoe can brighten any room with his mere presence and he definitely thinks he's the life of the party! Now he just needs a family to party with.... UPDATE: Roscoe was adopted and has a big Iggy brother named bailey to play with! Here is a recent update on Roscoe from his new family: "Roscoe took his first road trip over Thanksgiving to visit my family down in Kentucky. He was the star of the show and was loved by all (except for Bailey at that point). He is getting very excited for the return trip over Christmas, especially now that he knows that my mother is an easy mark for treats. He is also the first dog to ever brave visiting my parent's Pomeranian under the bed and live to tell the tale (really, we do have to watch this little boy closely, unlike Bailey and most IGs have I known, he seems to know no fear)."

My rescuer says they give me something called charm. I certainly get a lot of attention because of them everywhere I go. I like attention. I love, love, LOVE to be held and cuddled! I'll snuggle up to you and just gaze into your eyes. I only weigh 5 pounds so even though I like kids, I should go to a home without small children just so that no accidents happen to me. Sasha is a lovely 8 year old lady just recently released from a puppy mill where she spent her life thus far making babies to "stock" the pet stores. She has an amazing personality and will make a wonderful, loyal companion for the right family. Sasha gets along well with other dogs. She saw her first cat shortly after being rescued. At first, she barked but the fascination has worn off and now she spends her time following her foster family from room to room. Sasha is super smart having learned to go up and down stairs in one try. She is pretty good at going on her potty pads and is slowly getting used to walking on leash. All Sasha really wants now is to have her silky soft coat gently stroked by someone who promises to never let anything bad happen to her ever again.

Shadow is one special guy. He was surrendered to rescue by a very tearful family who had raised him from the age of seven weeks to eleven months. They had to move and could no longer afford to care for him the way he deserved to be cared for. While still very puppy-like in his playfulness and energy level, Shadow has also demonstrated that he has smarts. If his food bowl happens to be empty when his tummy is growling, he will carry the bowl to his foster mom and lay it in her lap! He loves being scratched behind the ears, along his neck, and at the base of his tail...it makes him absolutely melt. And if he can cuddle with you in the morning, that makes life all the better! Shadow is a strong dog weighing about 70 pounds so even though he doesn't seem to mind small children, he probably shouldn't be trusted to not inadvertantly push them down when he's excited and asking to play. He is dog-friendly and seems to ignore cats - squirrels and bunnies are an entirely different story, though! The best family for him will have experience training and socializing a larger dog. Shadow already knows a few basic commands and works really hard to please his humans. A fenced in yard is a MUST for Shadow to exercise in every day and to help him burn off some puppy energy. This boy has so much love to give. He is guaranteed to light up any household with his charm. All he needs is a chance to have a forever family.

Sharpie and his littermates (three brothers) were born into rescue a short while after their pregnant mother, Kai, was rescued from a puppy mill. She did a fabulous job raising her last litter in a comfortable, loving, home environment and actually got to see her babies grow up. This is much unlike her previous experience living at the mill where babies are taken away from their mothers at only five or six weeks of age to be shipped across the country to pet stores. The only thing that mamma wants now is for her babies to find loving forever families who will commit to pampering her pups for their entire lifetime.

The best family for Sharpie will be one who is experienced raising a puppy and who does not have very young children in the household.  Sharpie will be available for adoption at the end of October/early November by a family that understands the needs of an Italian Greyhound, can continue to socialize him and work on his potty training.

Shelly is an extremely SWEET, loving little girl who gets along with everyone. She loves being held and passes her day shredding any paper that she can get her paws on. Shelly's only "flaw" is that she is missing her tail ~ reportedly due to an overzealous mother. She is a young gal still working on potty training.

This two year old boy was rescued from a puppy mill in MO. When he arrived he was stiff with fright and avoided eye contact. He didn't know who or how to trust and every time you touched him, you could tell he hoped it would be a "good" touch. In the short time Silvio has been at ROMP, his personality has absolutely blossomed. He now knows what toys are. He loves to run and play with the other rescues. His eyes have softened and he loves to invite his humans to play with him. When Silvio first arrived he was overweight from living an inactive life in a cage. That fat is now turning into muscle and Silvio is showing himself to be the dog he was meant to be - a solidly built fellow weighing in at slightly over 20 pounds. Much of the outside world is still new to Silvio but he is eagerly adjusting and would love to become someone's trusted companion and friend. Once he knows a person, that person is his friend for life! Silvio's first birthday was spent in a cage at a puppymill. His second birthday was just celebrated in rescue. Where will he celebrate his next birthday a year from now? Silvio's wish is to celebrate in a place called 'home'. UPDATE: Silvio was adopted! Here is what his new human companion says about him: "He is doing fantastic!!!! Biggest acomplishment to date is that he is completely house trained. His bald spots are all gone. He now can walk on the street with buses and motorcycles driving a few feet away without getting upset at all. He is much less timid around other people and even other animals and he has become quite the tailwagger. The vet said that his weight is perfect and she loved his disposition. When I told her about you and what a great experience the adoption was she asked for your contact info. Silvio and I get stopped by people on almost every walk with everyone wanting to meet this handsome boy and inquire about him. He is very popular in the building and when I am without him the immediate question is, "Where is Silvio?" While he enjoys his toys and dog bed very much his favorite thing to do is curl up on my lap and watch TV. He is incredibly intelligent going as far as to disect his treats and remove his medicine that I concealed in them. After which he then drops the pill at my feet as if to say, "No thank you." He is great and we are best of friends!!! " Thank you for opening your heart and home to Silvio! You're the first and only family he knows.

Simone is a high-spirited gal who doesn't let anything keep her down. She found herself in a kill shelter with a badly mangled rear leg that was amputated. Before the stitches were even out, she made her way to rescue where she spends her days running and jumping all over her foster mom as if she had always only had three legs. She races up and down stairs and climbs baby gates like it's nothing! Simone is a young Pomeranian aproximately a year to a year and a half old. She longs to be someone's shadow. Her happy voice greets you when you come home and tells you goodnight when you tuck her in. She never seems to be unhappy and she gets along well with other dogs though she does like to be "the one in charge". She is inquisitive and comical and is sure to liven up any home. Simone needs no special accomodations other than a family that will look past her missing leg and one who will give her a lot of undivided attention and love. Outdoor potty training is still a work in progress but Simone does do well on potty pads indoors. Simone says she is looking for a family who will love her and give her lots of opportunities to play, run, and maybe even go to obedience classes so she can show everyone how smart she is. Oh yes, and you must provide her balls to play with!

Sinatra was surrendered to us by a backyard breeder. We brought him right to the pet spa and under his dirty, stinky, matted coat was a cute little bundle of adorableness with a personality to match.  Now that he is feeling marvelous and is eager to find his forever home! Sinatra is taking applications and scheduling interviews to find a forever family and permanent snuggle buddy so don't hesitate or else you may miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime.  He is approximately 3 years old and weighs about 4 lbs. He loves other similar sized dogs and older children.  He needs someone that will patiently work with him on potty training and someone who enjoys grooming their four-legged companion.

Sonya was born March 10th after her pregnant mother was rescued from a puppy mill. This lucky little girl and her littermates are the only puppies that their mother has ever delivered into freedom after years of exploitation at the mill. She has a very sweet disposition and loves to eat, play, snooze, poop, wrestle, and repeat! She will need a consistent, loving home that has the time and experience to socialize and train a young puppy into adulthood. Because Sonya is so young and vulnerable, homes with very young children will not be considered.

This sweet Yorkie boy would love nothing more than to have a family of his own to cuddle with all day. Sterling is a little 2 year old guy guy weighing in just under 4 pounds. He has also been diagnosed with a luxating patella (loose kneecap) in one hind leg. Right now it does not seem to cause him any discomfort but it may need surgery in the future. For these reasons, Sterling would do best in a home without small children. Potty training is a work in progress so he will need lots of patience and positive reinforcement in that area. He gets along well with other dogs and is fascinated by tv. This boy may be small but his heart is as big as you'll find 'em!

Stetson came to us as a backyard breeder surrender. He is two years old and quite a lovable ball of fur!  He is a go with the flow kinda guy, likes being petted, has beautiful teeth and is looking for a forever family to show him the finer things in life.  He is still working on potty training and will need a family to work on basic commands with him as well.

Taffy is a medium hairy hairless Chinese Crested who was surrendered to a shelter when her owners could no longer care for her.  We estimate her to be about 3 years old.

She has an extremely sweet personality and just wants to love her human and be loved by that person.  She enjoys the company of other dogs so she would do well in a home with another dog but she would do just as well as an only dog relishing all of her family's attention.  Taffy gets SO excited when it's treat time!  She is sure to entertain you every day.

Taffy's skin was neglected so her new family will need to continue to give her baths and regular grooming to bring her into condition.  She also has loose patellae (knee caps).  This is a common condition in toy dogs, unfortunately.  Some dogs require corrective surgery at some point in their lifetime while others can go their whole life without surgery.  For now, Taffy moves freely and is in no discomfort.  Hopefully, with proper exercise and diet she can avoid ever requiring surgery.

Taffy does well using potty pads and could be transitioned to outdoor pottying.

Taser and his littermates (three brothers) were born into rescue a short while after their pregnant mother, Kai, was rescued from a puppy mill. She did a fabulous job raising her last litter in a comfortable, loving, home environment and actually got to see her babies grow up. This is much unlike her previous experience living at the mill where babies are taken away from their mothers at only five or six weeks of age to be shipped across the country to pet stores. The only thing that mamma wants now is for her babies to find loving forever families who will commit to pampering her pups for their entire lifetime.

The best family for Taser will be one who is experienced raising a puppy and who does not have very young children in the household.  Taser will be available for adoption at the end of October/early November by a family that understands the needs of an Italian Greyhound, can continue to socialize him and work on his potty training.

Terry was born in rescue. He comes from a litter of seven to a mother named Dixie. We believe Terry to be a terrier mix as his mother appears to be a terrier mix, and anticipate his weight to be around 15lbs when fully grown. As the story goes, Dixie - Terry's mom, was a young stray in the heart of Dixieland. She was very pregnant and wandered around the area begging from door to door. But, no one would take her in. She was badly matted and dirty. However, mama-to-be Dixie did not give up! After two months, she found someone to take her in and clean her up. That lady, a rescuer several states away, two more volunteers and the ROMP family coordinated to get the very pregnant Dixie to Chicago. Miss Dixie had Terry while in the loving care of her foster home and is now the proud mama to a total of 7 pups (3 girls, 4 boys). Dixie seems to be a former pet that someone no longer wanted as she is potty trained, social and knows basic commands. She and her pups all have great dispositions, they are friendly and are being well socialized. Because Terry was born on November 3, 2013, he will be available for adoption sometime around February/March 2014. When adopted he will be fully vetted/up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped.

Tiffany is an extremely sweet 3 year old surrendered to rescue by a puppy mill. When Tiffany arrived she was very hand-shy but she had that special twinkle in her eye that told us she wanted to learn to trust humans. And she did! She just lights up when her foster mom walks into the room. The outside world is still a new and sometimes intimidating place but with encouragement, patience and yummy treats, Tiffany is willing to give anything a try. She is a quiet girl who enjoys the company of other dogs. Due to her beautiful coat, Tiffany's family will need to be willing to provide the necesssary regular grooming to keep her looking glamorous. Potty training is still a work in progress as she learns to transition from pee pads to the outdoors.

Toby III is a very sweet boy that was surrendered, though no fault of his own. Toma is a senior Italian Greyhound that was surrendered by his owners, through no fault of his own. He is super sweet and is even part of the super-long-tongue club! His health was neglected over the years so Toma came to ROMP with a bit of hair loss and a skin infection but is in good spirits and on the mend. It's amazing what healthy food can do! Toma also has a fractured jaw from the lack of dental cleaning over the years but it does not alter his day to day activities or change the appetite of the lovable guy.  We anticipate his jaw healing as the fracture is only on one side and he will continue to eat soft foods to allow it to get better on its own.  He is a very, very kind soul that deserves to be well cared for, loved, and the apple of someones eye! The one thing that Trixie had on her bucket list as she awaited her fate at the high-kill shelter was to find a loving and forever home before it was too late. She got half of her wish fulfilled when rescue came and got her out guaranteeing her life would not come to a premature end. She is now getting lots of love in her foster home but she still needs the "loving, forever home" part to happen. Will you be the one to giive Trixie the life she's always deserved to have? This little fella is the perfect lap dog and when he wags his tail at you, your heart is sure to melt. Photos don't do this beauty justice! Winnie is said to be a cross between an Italian Greyhound and Schnauzer, but unlike Winston and Benji, she looks most like an IG both in build and coat type. Winnie is a very curious girl who just melts into your arms. She definitely has an "on" button like all other puppies and can amuse herself playing with toys, puppies and her human companions when she's not stealing the others' treats. Winnie would do best in a home with puppy experience and would benefit from puppy classes.

Winston is a complete character! He loves playing with other dogs and toys but one of his all-time favorite things to do is to gently take treats from your hand. He's so proud of himself when he walks away with a cookie in his mouth! Like most kids, he is mesmerized by the tv but can easily be convinced to leave that alone in favor of playing a fun game of tug. Winston is built like an Italian Greyhound but has a different coat texture as you can see in his photos. he has a wonderful disposition and loves to be held and cuddled in true IG fashion! Winston was born on 6/6/10 and will be available for adoption by the end of August by a family with experience raising a puppy.

Zippy is a 2 year old Italian Greyhound puppy mill rescue. He is a very handsome young iggy that will need someone to work with him as he learns about the world around him now that he is free!  Because he grew up in a cage and had little human interaction he is very shy, needs to learn his basic commands and needs work on potty training.  He is like a blank slate, his family will get to experience many first with him - like teaching him how to go up/down stairs, get on/off furniture, what good food tastes like, what doggy toys are and how to play with them, and that sleeping in soft beds and under warm blankets are how it should be.  Because of where he came from, he is not well suited for a family with young children.  If you can give Mr. Zippy the love, care, and lifelong commitment he deserves as he grows into his own, we would love to hear from you!
