Snowie is a goofy, sweet, & playful pup whose compact size holds a ton of personality! She is as happy running around the yard as she is chasing her own tail in the living room, or cuddling on the couch. **Fenced yard required**
She's spunky, adorable, & can't hear a darn thing. While she doesn't seem to mind one bit, there are a few things for her forever family to keep in mind. Some are super convenient, like how she sleeps through EVERYTHING! Fireworks, other barking dogs, sirens, mail carriers, nothing. Since she isn't disturbed by noise, whether you are trying to sneak a snack from the kitchen without canine company, play video games at unhealthy volumes, or just want to sing off key to your favorite tunes without criticism, this girl is a fantastically tolerant friend (these examples & more have been thoroughly foster tested & approved).
This lovely little lady is smart & observant so with hand signals & consistency she can learn just about anything a dog with good hearing can learn. She may not come when called but she knows that if someone waves at her, she should run over for some pets & since she adores attention, it's pretty easy to get hers!
Snowie does have some quirks that her family will need to accommodate. She can be very vocal when excited, and is determined to meet new people and animals. She thinks she’s being friendly, and does not understand that her barking can sometimes appear scary or elicit a negative reaction. She interacts with her world primarily through visual stimuli and just needs a little help to adapt “see” what’s going on and respond correctly.
In her foster home, Snowie lives with two other dogs. One is very passive and does not react when she gets agitated or barks to play. The two of them get along fine inside and outside. The other does not like to play, and doesn’t know what to do when she gets vocal – so it is imperative that they be monitored to avoid escalation due to miscommunication. She would likely do well with any passive dog, who doesn’t mind her klutzy communication attempts, or as an only dog. Snowie also lives with two cats - they are pretty nervous around her yet, but she wants to be friends and has done well with many cats in the past, so would likely do well with dog savvy cats, after controlled introductions.
Snowie is realiably house trained, likes to sleep on the bed - or a couch if she must. She has done well crated, but not if there are other dogs loose. She gets agitated if she can see them and not join them. Currently she is confined in a separate room during the workday to avoid any altercations with the one resident dog. She enjoys taking long naps free of stress and distraction.
Snowie has met several people in her foster home, and has been very friendly. She doesn't have great manners - is kind of bouncy and forgets all about hand signals, so would probably do best in a home with older children or adults only.
Adopters will need to be proactive to ensure Snowie ’s success in new situations. It is imperative that all meetings be orchestrated and monitored. The more controlled her environment, the more confident and happy she is. Once she has the lay of the yard, and home, and settles into a routine, she is super easy and a wonderful companion. She is going to be most happy at home with her people!
