If you are viewing Astro's bio on Petfinder, please click below for more information!

Name:  Astro   Breed:  Shepherd/hound mix, the best kind!

Approximate Age:  10-12 months old

Approximate Weight:  45-50 lbs

Currently Living at:  DC boarding -- Astro needs a foster or forever home ASAP!!

Meet Astro!  Astro is 10-12 month old GORGEOUS shepherd mix -- you can see his happy smile!.:)  Poor Astro doesn't understand what he did to be dumped at an overcrowded shelter where he might not make it out!  He shared his small kennel well with several other dogs and did well with them.  This very sweet but unlucky guy is hoping you will give him a new life in a loving forever home like such a great dog deserves!

Astro's overnight foster said that he did wonderfully well in the home and even seemed to be house trained -- what a good boy!

Astro says...Hi there, everyone!  They call me Astro, and they say that I'm just the most beautiful, sweetest guy EVER!!  Do you have room in your heart and home for a pup like me?  I have a beautiful tricolor coat that's super-soft…great for everyone to pet me (hint hint). :-)  I weigh about 45-50 pounds (not too big), which makes me a perfect size for an apartment, house or condo!!  They say I am probably some sort of shepherd/collie mix…all I know is that I'm a happy pup and I love to play, get lots of pets, and give lots of doggie kisses!

Read below for more info on Astro, and email sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org ASAP if you are interested in him!

Astro says...I don't know why, but somehow I ended up in this scary shelter.  It's a dark and frightening place.  I don't get to go outside, it gets really really loud when new dogs come in (which happens all the time), and no one comes to visit me.  I really hope I can get out of this place really soon!

Don't you think I would look really cute as your new Facebook cover photo, romping around in the sunshine and rolling in the summer grass?  And how I'd love to snuggle up by you while we relax inside after a day of fun adventures.  I just really want to run, play, then snuggle, nap and dream of all the adventures we'll have together.  I would just LOVE trips to the dog park and hikes in the woods -- I love to discover new things!

Sweet Astro makes friends with everyone he meets!  At around 10-12 months old, he is past the baby puppy phase (no all-night crying or bathroom breaks every 2 hours!) but like any young dog, still needs lots and lots of exercise to stay happy and healthy.

Astro's new person or family will need to make sure he gets lots of socialization and playtime with other dogs and people to keep up the good social skills he has already!  And like all dogs we adopt out, he'll need to go to obedience classes to build a strong bond with his people, and help him become a well behaved companion or family member.  Astro seems to like all the people he meets, and can't wait to wiggle his way into your heart and home.

Like most young dogs, Astro will need a refresher on his house training when he gets to a new home.  He will also need to go to obedience school so he can continue to be a well-socialized dog!

The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery.  If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and e-mail it to at Sheila at sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org ASAP!
