HAILEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Hailey   Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix

Approximate Age: 2.5 years (dob Aug 2016)     SEX: female

Approximate Weight: 57 lbs

Currently Living at: foster home

Special Adoption Considerations:  active, young dog, needs experienced dog owner and to be the only dog in the home

Hailey is Looking For: an experienced dog owner and need to be the only dog in the home.  I am very energetic and may need more than walks, and hope I find a home where I can do lots of running and playing.  I am doing well with leash training and basic commands but like any young dog will need a home with structure so I can continue to learn and show you how smart I am.

What My Foster Says About Me:

Hailey is a loving and affectionate dog. She is extremely smart, obedient, and eager to please.  She is playful, curious, and confident. Snuggling up with her is among the great ways to end my day.

Hailey has a lot of energy and loves catching and running after tennis balls. On a hot summer day we discovered the fun of attacking the spray from a hose. In the evening we sit outside just to hang or have a round of tug of war with her rope toy while watching tv. We love to go on walks — she is very good on her leash. She is a powerful dog so keeping note of rabbits and squirrels is a good idea.

Hailey comes in the car with me when possible. We did two road trips to New York State and I think it would be fun to take her to the beach. Around town she hops into the car without a fuss and waits until I take her leash before jumping out. She doesn’t bark at others outside the car and waits patiently when I leave her for a bit.

When we go out on my own Hailey either senses it or a simple “go to your crate” has her calmly walking inside to await her crate treat. When it’s time to stop playing I ask her to go lie down, and she goes and lies down.

We have worked diligently on the Canine Good Citizen commands, honing her sit, down, and stay. We’ve added the walking routine of heel , halt, come, stay, and finish up.

The most important command we continue to work on is “quiet”. This aims to diffuse and distract from negative behavior toward other dogs and some people. It is important to assess the direction and proximity of another dog, check her tension and body language, then “quiet,” treat, and a “good girl”. Her progress has been spectacular. She has become very relaxed around other dogs to the point where she will greet with a sniff and want to play ... and play she does. I am now taking her to the dog park on leash but I think I’ll soon see how she does on her own.

Hailey is a wonderful easy dog to have around and has made my life a joy. I know she will be as great a companion to you as she has been to me."

Like most shelter dogs, Hailey may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained.
