JAMES NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Approximate Age: 1 year    SEX: male

Approximate Weight: 11 lbs

Has Lived With:  other dogs

Currently Living at: Scary rural shelter. James would love to come to a foster home in D.C., or better yet, a forever home! 

Special adoption considerations: Chi mixes are sometimes nervous around little kids, so at this time, James needs to go to a home without kids, or kids over 15 years old.

James is a 2 year old chihuahua mix, 12 lbs. James is beyond the puppy stage, so that means no crying at night or late night potty breaks once he figures out housebreaking! James would love to show off that you can teach an older dog new tricks, and he can't wait to show you how impressive he could be in obedience class. 

All he is looking for in a future home is love, lots of tummy rubs, a few walks a day, some yummy treats, and a comfy spot to curl up with you at night. James is a tiny fellow, so he'd be perfect for an apartment or condo. He gets along with other dogs, so he'd be happy to join a pack if you have one, but would be equally happy to soak up all the attention himself. Wouldn't you love to come home to that sweet face every day?

Like most shelter dogs, James may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained. We don't know how he does with cats, but let us know if you have them and we can try to find out for you!   

James has tested positive and is being treated for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative.
